nic robertson is live for us in geneva tonight. i don't believe we have the names of these two individuals yet, nic, but what do we know? >> reporter: that they have what appear to be genuine syrian passports. that's what the prosecutor says. the prosecutor in geoneva has been careful to give very tiny snippets of information out about these men. he won't say what the names are in the passports. he won't even say if they had schengen visas in the passports that would give them the right to travel freely throughout europe. he won't say what type of vehicle they were in either. what they are saying, the swiss authorities are saying is that they are looking at whether these men were connected or are connected to a terrorist organization. they won't say what type of terrorist organization or which terrorist organization. but i think the inference here from the fact that we know that there have been -- they've received so many tipoffs recently that isis is looking to target geneva. that's clearly where they're thinking at the momentum.

nic robertson is joining us now from geneva.ic, so far, these two arrests are not connected to the paris attacks. where is this investigation going? >> well, the authorities here in switzerland, and specifically in geneva, are being very careful about the details they're giving out here. the two men are being investigated for possible ties to terrorist organizations. that's clear. the two men have worked with what authorities believe to be authentic syrian passports. and they also believe the vehicle they picked him up in as traces of explosives. a european security force describes those traces of explosives more as traces of chemical precursors. that is, the sort of chemicals that would use to make sploefs. well, the federal authorities here are saying they were possibly involved in the manufacture or the transport or the concealment of these explosives if that's what it proves to be. so at the moment, the details of what the swiss authorities know are a little bit unclear, a little bit -- kept a little bit under wraps, if you

nic robertson is in switzerland with the very latest. nic? yeah, pam, in the last hour or so, the geneva airport here has been on -- part of it was on a lockdown as police investigated two suspicious items of luggage because there's a heightened security threat going on. this is normal that they would be hypervigilant at this time. one of those items of luggage turned out to be a piece of lost luggage. the other one was steroid through a controlled explosion. authorities here on a hair trigger and stems from three pieces of information. very significant information coming from u.s. intelligence officials, saying they picked up chatter between four isis individuals inside syria that indicated that they were potentially planning an attack here in geneva. also potentially planning an attack in chicago. the whereabouts of these four individuals is now unknown. at least a couple of them, we're told, speak french. they'll be able to operate here pretty easily in and around geneva. two other important items for swiss authorities. a vehicle registere
