from six countries, cnn diplomatic editor nic robertson joins us live with more on that. good morning to you. where are we in all of this? >> reporter: well, when you look at the airports through which some of the travelers are coming through, take the united arab emirates here, they have flights coming in from iran, for example, sudan, two of the countries out of the six of the muslim majority countries that have banned, they're not encountering problems as they were last time the ban was in force back in very late january. why? because there seems to be better foreknowledge of what's happening. it's been better managed, if you will. there is more information for the airlines to deal with. from their perspective, anyone that's showing up who has the right documentation, the right travel visas to get on the aircraft, they are being allowed to the aircraft. there's -- there is -- there isn't the situation where people are getting on aircraft and finding when they get to the other end that the documents they have aren't sufficient. even refugees who face 120-day ballpark fr

. >> i want to bring in nic robertson, he's outside 10 downing street. what's the reaction there to this feud with the london mayor? >> this is another case of perhaps unintended consequences for president trump. he said that he supports the british prime minister. e he says that he supports the british people at this tragic time, but the effect of what he's saying is the london mayor is seen by the u.s. deputy ambassador here spoken about it for saying that he's doing a good job, he's commended and for being strong at this difficult time here. the reality is that we're now just a few days away from an election. the british prime minister has positioned herself very closely with president trump. anything he says or does that can be viewed in a negative light in britain will reflect badly on her. the leader of the opposition has picked up on this already, this criticism by president trump and who said the president clearly doesn't have a grasp and an understanding of the situation here in london or what the mayor of trying to do. the loader of the opposit

. >> we begin with our international diplomatic editor, nic robertson, who joins me now. nic, what are police learning about the men who carried out these attacks? >> reporter: the police say this is a continuing investigation, continuing at a swift pace. they have made significant progress inidentifying the three men in the attack. one of them rented the white van and several searches in the east of london in barking today, do seem to indicate the police suspect these men may have been living in the east of london prior to this attack. why can we surmise this? looking at what the police have done after recent attacks, the first properties they go tend to be the properties where the attackers have been living or have close friends or associates. that's where we can begin to surmise the attackers came from london, not identifying them even asking journalists to pixelate the images shortly before the attack. police want to continue the investigation at their pace, uncovering leads at their own pace without any tip offs to journalists or to the public about who the attackers

nic robertson is this london. we just learned that police released one of those they arrested initially without any charges. also interesting is is the genders. 7 of the 12 people were women. what can else can you tell us about the investigation? >> that's right. police are saying they are making significant progress in terms of identifying these three attackers. they have not yet named them or given any details about them. just a short time ago, they called on the media not to speculate as to the identity of these attackers. they will release the names as soon as as possible. there's more details about the raids and arrests taking place in the eastern part of london. 12 people arrested, one of whom has been released without charges. seven of those people were women. four properties were also searched. and earlier today the assistant commissioner for the police spoke about how this attack unfolded. take a listen. >> it was a white van recently hired by one of the attackers. as our understanding grows, we now under

i want to bring in nic robertson, first to this breaking news. what are we learning about the two terrorists? >> he was born in pakistan. the police are also saying that he was known to both the police and the british intelligence services prior to this attack. he had been on their radar before. the others are of libyan descent. but he's had an alias was of a 25-year-old man. the police say they are working to try to identify now the other attacker, that's the priority for them at the moment. but putting in context the fact they had known this 27-year-old british pakistani born individual they say they had to put that into the context of they have the currently following 500 different counterterrorism potential plots. they have 20,000 people of interest who passed across their radar in the past few years. they say currently they have 3,000 people of interest that they are looking at specifically right now. so the police are try ing ing t in context the fact that they knew about one of these attackers in advance of the attack. they say they have n

nic robertson is on the scene. i take it we're getting some of the names of those involved, the names of the some of the terrorists. is that right? >> that's right, wolf. the police had said they were going to name them. what we're getting are the names of two of the three attackers. the police said all three were shot dead. let me just read you here what we just had from the police. the two men, kareem and rasheed, both from east of london. more details here. kareem, 27 years old, born the 20th of april 1990 was a british citizen who was born in pakistan. rasheed, 30 years old, born the 31st of july, 1986. had claimed to be morroccan and libyan. this is a man who's given a different date of birth here as the 31st of july, 1991. so one of the individuals has two aliases. has claimed a different nationality from what the police have here. one of them a british national but pakistani origin. we can also add in what we've learned from irish police that they are helping british counter terrorism police with connections

nic robertson is joining us now. set the scene of what you're seeing now and who you've been talking to, what you've heard about the terror event in the last few hours. >> reporter: well, we can still hear a helicopter hovering above us and the situation on the perimeter here does seem to be settling down. people in this neighborhood are still trying to get back to their homes and for some it's still not possible. people we've talked to that witnessed parts of the attack, hearing the shots being told to run and leave the area by police, as we came into the area here, absolutely chaotic situation. police moving down the center of the road and riot gear towards the borough market from where we were. and then they turned, they arrested a man, ran at high speed, chased everyone including us out of the area, armed police moved in. but that situation, as i say that was chaotic before, has very much calmed down at the moment. 20 people, as we know, are being treated for injuries in hospital. numbers of others treated by the
