nicholas russian orthodox church. >>> back to our continuing coverage of the rim fire. here are the latest numbers regarding that wildfire. it is 7% contained this morning. so far it has burneds on the northwestern edge of the yosemite national park. more than 2600 firefighters are trying to put that fire out. this fire is reminding long time residents of the sierra foothills of a nightmare they experienced a quarter of a century ago. a rash of wildfires scorched hundreds of thousands of acres throughout the state in 1987. four firefighters were killed battling various fires. one firefighter was crushed by a falling tree. the yosemite park officials are urging potential visitors not to let the rim fire scare them off. labor day week is typically a pretty busy time for the year for the park, about 12 to 15,000 people are there this weekend. a handful of people who reserved lodges, though, have canceled, but so far the fire's impact on tourism has been minimal. as an added incentive the park is waiving its visitor fee. >>> firefighters are gaining ground on a wildfire burning in el dorado county near georgetown. the empire fire is 70% contained. it started about 3:00 yesterday
