nicholas vlahos and his kids had been camping with other relatives when they decided to take a ruggedr way back to the bay area. you are looking at pictures of them after the rescue. the sheriff's office says they slid off a slick muddy road and they were stranded there struggling to get the car back on the road some time. a search helicopter spotted them around 8:00 this evening and air lifted the man and his kids out. that is how they found them still struggleing to get their suv back on the road. very slick roads. very muddy roads, from some wet weather the sierra has experienced earlier today. but again, the family was in good condition, everybody was safe, no injuries whatsoever. so really, just as you said, the best possible outcome for a family that has been overdue back in the bay area and families were really fearing the worst for them tonight. so good to hear they are back. >> absolutely. and they look happy in the back of the ambulance. not panicked or distressed in any way which is great. >> reporter: yeah. sounds like they were just out there for some time. we don't know
