i'm meteorologist nick o'kelly. tracking the latest storm system to hit the bay area, rain will be heavy at times on and off throughout the day today and winds gusting to 25 and possibly 30 miles per hour,s specially in the higher terrain. looks like the next several days will be wet and unsettled. a series of storm systems head our way. we have a transfer of somewhat drier weather towards friday. >>> christmas day is still about a week away. we will have plenty of rain between now and then. today in some parts of the bay area, the wind gusts are causing some homeowners to shout timber. in the montclair neighborhood the saturated ground gave way bringing down this giant pine tree, crashed right into the house. the people who lived there had to call out an arborist to help clear out the debris. the tree punctured a hole in the roof and the ceiling of their living room. no one was hurt, though. >>> but the folks in the santa cruz mountains are still preparing for the worst that this series of storms will bring. people

let's bring in nick o'kelly. everyone wants to know right now just how much we're going to get and how long it's going to last. >> a nice little break in the stor track through the day st today. with some us seeing dry weather at times. the radar is starting to show the rain filling in offshore. we're in for round two of a multifaceted storm system that's going to affect us for several days. i want to zoom out and show you what's headed our way, about 250 miles out there in the pacific. another piece of energy breaking off our storm system and headed into the bay overnight tonight. winds will increase once again, and especially above about 1,000 feet. gusting to maybe 35, 40 miles per hour at times, and rainfall will turn from light to moderate this evening. the downrate heavy once again tonight. this is not the end of it, the extended forecast shows a lot of rain in our future, i'll talk more about that in a few minutes. >> thank you very much. >> people trying to travel in this weather are probably in for a rou
