we begin with nick schiffron in gaza. there is one hour left in the ceasefire, what is the latest after mar tars were fired from gas and do we expect retaliation? >> i'm not wearing my flak jacket. this ceasefire is holding. it's moving perhaps toward longer ceasefire. the last couple hours, the israeli military said three mortars have been fired from here into israel, handing in open fields. they did not cause damage to property or cause casualties. there is some reports that israel has fired back, but even if that's true, this is a very small basically scrap between the two. if israel has fired back with the the fact is on the streets now, there is a lot of people, the sense that the ceasefire is holding and officials are beginning to talk about perhaps the ceasefire extending longer. >> what about this humanitarian aid going into gaza? >> this has ban humanitarian crisis, according to the u.n., a shortage of medicine, needingout billion dollars to bring in electricity, food and water. some is coming in, but there's a l

nick schiffron has more. >> we were talking about last night, u.s. officials hoping in about 24 or 48 hours for some kind of temporary ceasefire. they did not think they could get a permanent ceasefire. u.s. secretary of state john kerry put together a proposal for a temporary ceasefire according to an official emailing me about it. that proposal includes things for both sides, including a level of israeli presence along the border with gaza, allowing them to stay there. it would include assurances to hamas that in the future, things like borders would be more open and the israeli siege lifted. we are not close anywhere to both sides actually agreeing to that according to this u.s. official. both sides are very much hard in their positions, demanding things israel will not give and israel demanding more final for their military operation. as of now, it seems diplomacy is not working and the violence will continue. >> kremlin officials said today that pro-russian separatists were not equipped to shoot down malaysia airlines flight 17, they said the re

let's go to nick schiffron on the ground in gaza. good morning. a few hours ago, we got word that israel resumed air strikes. the military says a rocket was fired into southern israel this morning. what have you seen today in gaza? >> it's important for people to understand that this is not the level of fighting that we have seen for the last few days or the last few weeks. this is intermittent fire, but we are hearing big booms off into the distance. that's the sign that israel is striking targets. we've seen rockets flying out of here from gaza into israel. cording to the israeli military, the targets have been rocket launchers as well as one rocket factory. officials in southern israel have said there have been two rocket attacks near cities, but both rockets landed in empty fields. in this neighborhood where we are right above me, about an hour on the ground, an israeli helicopter dropped leaflets. they are spreading throughout the neighborhood. generally israel has used those to warn people to leave or to deliver a political message to the re
