what's the very latest this morning, nicole? >> reporter: pam, we expect to hear the safety directive from the f.a.a. some time today basically mandating operators of about 175 older 737s inspect those aircraft for wear and tear and with very good reason. these planes, these 175 737s have taken off and landed roughly 30,000 times. and this directive comes after the lodge of a southwest plane tore mid flight last week exposing a five foot long hole that was one foot wide. that plane did not have outstanding safety issues. it was inspected back in march of 2010. so there's a problem here with the inspections. when these inspections are done they're done visually on this particular area of the fuel sill lodge. what the f.a.a. is calling for is that the national transportation safety board conduct high-tech electromagnetic inspections that will reveal cracks that lead to these kinds of tears. experts say they believe the f.a.a. will make this a standard practice on some of these older planes. and southwest grounded 79 planes after t

nicole has this report.de this mass of free health care clinic hundreds of people are waiting to get the services they need. you can see all these people lined up at several stations scattered throughout the free clinic. i spoke with some what been waiting hours. some say up to 16 hours, some even spend the night just to get the services they needed. for the most part they all say getting medical attention is well worth the wait. >> it's a blessing my job doesn't have dental insurance anymore. >> we were running to go back, but at the end it's worth it these free services, they are a lot of help. >> i got my teeth cleaned if i went to the dentist was costed way more money than just coming here >> and not that many people took this opportunity, everything for free, people cannot their kids, tennis is a camp out. >> a lot of the people i talked with said the team prepared for an incredibly long way. many brought their own bottled water, food some even brought their own folding chairs waiting outside as well as

nicole collins is in our washington d.c.sroom with more on what inspectors will be looking for today. nicole. >> reporter: well, this safety mandate comes from the f.a.a. and what it says is basically operators of about 175 older 737 boeing aircraft need to inspect these planes for wear and tear. these 175 aircraft have landed and taken off about 30,000 times. so there is some concern here that they're just getting very old and this new problem that's arisen with the southwest flight from last week where the fuel sill lodge ripped in a five foot long one foot wide hole appeared in the fuse ill lodge in the body of this plane. so what happened though here this plane didn't have any outstanding safety issues. it was inspected back in march of 2010. so what's really going on here is that there's a problem with the way the inspections are done as these planes get older is what the f.a.a. is realizing. so what they're calling for now is that the national transportation safety board conduct high-tech electromagnetic inspections th

nicole collins is live in washington d.c.h how all of this is effecting the safety of catching a flight. good morning, nicole. >> reporter: good morning, pam. this time the incident happened in cleveland. an air traffic control operator was watching a movie called the cleaner on a portable dvd player. such devices are prohibited by the faa, the federal aviation administration, on the floor of any air traffic control radar room. an f.a.a. statement says the controller's microphone was inadvertently activated transmitting the sound track of the movie over the radiofrequency for that air space. the controller and supervisor on duty have been suspended pending an investigation. meanwhile, the f.a.a. administrate and the head of the air traffic controller union kicked off a cross country tour yesterday to investigation the recent rash. several incidents reported in the u.s. so far this year. over the weekend the government announced changes to how controllers will be scheduled to try to mitigate some of these problems. now requiri
