let's say that once again, nicol nico nicolle, we're getting increasing glimpses of the submerged part of the iceberg, the part we haven't seen yet. as that becomes more and more transparent to us, we learned today, this is what popped out at me, that remember what mueller's all about. he starts as a counterintelligence, russian counterintelligence investigation, we know from andy mccabe that mccabe had added an obstruction element in there involving the president and that gets handed off to mueller and what does mueller do? he targets cohen and cohen's records and e-mails and phone records, and he does it early and almost immediately after he stands up his office. so what do i draw from that? i draw from that that russia plays prominently in this concern as well as the possibility of obstruction by the president. and mueller jumped right into that and targeted data coming out of cohen's office. >> chuck rosenberg, i have never sort of been able to get over the president's reaction on the day of the cohen raids, and i want to play some of it but i want to get you to weigh in first. the

but, nicolle, i don't think that the standard is criminality. i think the standard in our constitution is something different. it's about fitness for office. so, for example, the story last week about how the president ordered the destruction of the time warner merger because -- with at&t -- because he was upset with cnn, that may not be a criminal act, but it is a quintessential abuse of the public trust. it is exactly what the founders had in mind when they wrote the impeachment clause. so, the standard is really high, that's what the -- what speaker pelosi said yesterday and congressman schiff, but it's not quite criminality as it's something different than that. >> do you disagree that criminality is the political barr that schiff and pelosi have set? >> well, you know, i don't think it's just criminality that they've set. so, for example, you know, there's this whole question about is the president obstructing justice when he fired jim comey? and, you know, barr, the attorney general, wrote this 19-page memo which floats the idea, well, no,

news 4's nicole jacobs standing by in the newsroom with new reaction from the victim's mother. tells about that, nicole. >> reporter: well, leon, it's been a disturbing twi of events with this story. keith smith and his daughter virginia layer i can't went before a j texasge today after they ditched his wife's home in baimore and headed south. we are hearing from jacqueline smith's mother, anna tri sba ne for the first time tonight. she says her daughter was a good person who loved everyone, but the story smelled fishy from the begiing to famil members. jacqueline murdered after giving money to a pandl h in baltimore. at least that was the story her husband told police. but they now say it was all made up, and that keith actually stabbed his wife to death. he's now charged with first degree murder andis daughter virgin valeria, police say, was an accessory after the fact. th two were arrested in texas not far from the mexican border. her mother said she last saw couple when they visited her in rhode island for thanksgiving. she had these words for keith at her daught's funeral.
