let's bring in meteorologist nicole mitchell. >> good morning. most of the storm has moved through, as we get across and behind the system, it's the cold air that we are having problems with. most of the country is dry. great news from places where they have a rough go. >> temperatures are on the rise. so that's nice as well. >> even the north-east, storms from yesterday clearing out. we have lingering snow. the live look, so you can see the snow on the ground. as i said, this is tapering off. those conditions will improve. let's look at what else we are dealing with. behind that system, strong cold air. it's a low pressure system, and the lower the pressure, the more the winds crank up. that's what we have. that's what this gave us. wind crusting in the 30 to 40 miles per hour, and the cold air that moved in, putting temperatures in the 20s, and you combine the elements and what it feels like is temperature subzero. feels like minus 4 this morning, after yesterday's mild air. d.c. up near 70, as was philadelphia, to go near the 30s and the 20s i

and let's bring in nicole mitchell for more on that, good morning, nicole. >> nice to get a break in weather yesterday but things will be changing as we go forward with the next round of wet weather coming in. this is what we have been talking about in washington where the river here also jammed with the mud slides and that backed up some water behind it and creating conditions and the river is cutting rounds the mudslide and making a new track for itself and say it's flowing pretty well so far but that is something they will have to watch both to make sure the new river continues to flow okay and if the dam of mud breaks what that will do. so new rain already coming in on the coastline, that is the concern right now, as it comes in over the course of the day not as heavy as previous rounds but we see it through tuesday and a break on wednesday and possibly more rain to the end of the week so it's not over yet and the ground is saturated and flooding is a concern and in this area and get up to the mountains and that kind of funnels the rain and keeps it in that area and helps it buil

meteorologist nicole mitchell is tracking the storm. there she is. let's check in with her, nicole. >> definitely a potent system out here. as we move across the country, we lucked out a little bit, because the brunt, the system itself is well off the coastline. if it had been a little closer, a lot more people would have been getting snow, new york that just had a couple of flakes slide by, so it's cape cod that are really going to see the brunt of this. as you just saw in that video, the winds are going to be significant, even a little more interior. even if you're getting light amounts of snow, it's going to blow and reduce that visibility. you get to the coastal areas, easily over a half foot of snow. you get interior a couple of inches. same thing for maine, passing more closely. these are areas that could get a foot of snow near the coastline. the places in the hot pink are the blizzard warnings because you need the high winds and low visibilities for three hours to be a blizzard. might not get the whole three hours, but conditions at times wit

grand old opry and first a look at the snow and rain across the country today and metrologist nicole mitchellore than you expect in the mid atlantic and more on a second and parts of wisconsin light snow this morning with a minor disturbance and a system in the northwest bringing areas of some heavy rain and snow for the higher elevations but let's get to the main system, the southern edge has had a lot of rain with it and strong storms today in places such as florida, high winds, particularly threat with that and the mid atlantic we have been getting decent snow totals and parts of new jersey up over 6" in a couple locations and you can kind of see the core of that right through the mid atlantic, that will cause a problem getting out this morning, back to you. >> reporter: air pollution is so bad in paris that drivers are now only allowed to use their cars every other day. hundreds of french police officers will be patrolling the city to make sure people obey the temporary rule and alternate on odd or even numbers on license plates and public transportation is free and will look at it daily

the capitol hill hot seat and what temperatures we will see across the nation and metrologist nicole mitchellck. >> nicole: we have a couple changes in store and mild air this morning, um and down the east coast 40 and 30s and it keeps the temperatures day and night stable and adds installation and the midsection of the country where you see the greens versus the blues around that that is really warm air and the weather system we were talking about bringing posable blizzard conditions in the northern midwest and ahead of the system as cold as the air is on the backside of this there is a warm southeasterly flow on the front side of that system and that has been cranking up temperatures and even this morning temperatures are in the 60s as far south as look at that lincoln 65, des moines 58 and a mild morning as you head out the door. but there is a cold side of that and billings is 35 degrees as the high for today. and the temperatures in places like minneapolis at 58 will be dropping into the 30s once that front comes through, back to you. >> stephanie: gm's new ceo will face congress on tues

nicole mitchell is here. >> some places are getting nice mild air over the next couple days.ystem starting to change things. this morning not too uncomfortable, denver 29, not unseasonable, a little below average but not what we were having a couple of days ago when it was much milder. midsection of the country versus yesterday, we've had a little bit of a warm up and then this colder air is going to start to come in. that's kind of the pattern in general. as the front goes in, now we'll start to see the colder air ahead of that. a nice warm up with winds out of the south. not only is this drawing in the colder air from canada, but it's picking up the winds, wind chills in the teens as that front moves through. you can see the delineation today, 73, 60 for memphis and chicago respectively versus temperatures like 41 for minneapolis, 31 for billings where we were mild a couple of days ago before that front went through and more cold air spreading eastward into saturday and to the east coast for sunday. >> phil ittner is in kiev, let's begin with what is happening today in mosc

very unusual place and let's look at where the snow and rain may fall across the country and nicole mitchell>> we have a developing system with a lot of elements with high snow and winds and plummeting temperatures. here is where it is. we will see problems in the midwest and rockys will see possibly 1-2 feet of snow. as this pulls out it's starting to kick up the wind gusts in the plains because of the pressure change associated with it and we will see high winds in kansas today and kicking up the red flag fire danger because we have high temperatures along with it. as this eventually hits the east coast not only snow northward but look at what some temperatures do, we go from temperatures near 70 degrees in washington d.c. to 20 degrees by thursday morning, wind chills sub 0 possible so that is almost a 17 degree flip-flop adding wind chills in one-day and people will feel this one. >> research suggests elephants are incredible listeners and can tell if a human poses a threat simply by listening to his or her voice and can even guess the anl, gender and the ethnicity of who is behind the v

almost here, believe it or not, it is still snowing in the midwest and as always metrologist nicole mitchellkeeping an eye on the forecast for us, good morning. >> they asked me yesterday what is the most asked question, is it over yet? this one? not quite yet. we are looking for the rockys and a system coming out of this direction as it moves out of the mountains a little bit more and it will get more organized so you can already see areas of snow in places of montana this morning but more widespread as we get it in the midwest later in the day. this is how it spreads and as we get in some parts of northern minnesota and into wisconsin, michigan could get a foot of snow with all of this going through. one good part of this weather system it is coming from the northwest versus from canada so the air with it is not quite as cold as we have seen with some of the last blasts. the other area we are watching and had a system go through the cost and it's close enough that it's causing some concerns including especially portions of virginia for example and had a couple freezing areas and the bridge

nearby residents to be alert for possible flash flood through the evening and we will bring in nicole mitchell a drier break in the forecast something we will need to be concerned about because sometimes after the water end we have all of it pouring in the ground stream and lakes and rivers and that is what we have been seeing in the area. so especially where we had the mudslide and daming of the river and that is some of our concerns. this was the set up with the high terrain and you get the deep flow coming up, the terrain and as it lifts into the atmosphere it basically rings out so you get heavier flow coming down the mountain sides and adds to all of that and add to the fact we had a very wet february and you can see the core of some of this being blocked by the mountains and continuing with the rain we have had. a little break for today and another front coming in for tomorrow that will add to so so something we will have to monitor and more on the rest of the nation coming up, in a bit and back to you. >> an oil spill in tuberculosises is being called a nightmare and environmental risk
