meteorologist nicole mitchell is here. it's the last thing i want to hear. >> the east of the country want to throw up the flag. it's not just new england. you see the snow moving into new england. it picks up more moisture that it has, 6-10 inches. watch this. this is the next system and as we get into the day tomorrow it could be an ice storm for parts of the south. into saturday it moves up the coastline again. for the two systems, the north-east will have two systems, and widespread advisories starting to go up. including the temperature advisories. we had the cold front sync southwards. places as far south as key west. 20-40 below average, and you at in the windchill. for atlanta and the teens will feel subzero with the windchill. a lot of winter weather advisories for the cold air, hard freeze and all the cold air for the east coast. the coldest morning looking like friday morning once we get into the north-east. it will be the coldest night of the year. >> not looking forward to it. one place that is colder is mars.

meteorologist niblg nicole mitchell is here in the studio.much better in new york. >> it definitely is. many of the temperatures made it past the single digits, 20 or 30 below with the wind chill that has abated as the winds have called down. now there is a reinforcing shot of cold air 20 or 30° below average, high winds as well. so tomorrow morning it's the wind chill day again and the east coast another really chilly day on sunday. the system doesn't look like it has a lot of snow with it. maybe two to four inches. it's when it hits the coastline intensifying along the way cranking in those winds drawing in more of that cold air but also picking up the moisture that it starts to cause more problems. so for coastal areas especially massachusetts northward where we've gotten hammered system after system, wind, wind chills, winter weather especially that coastline area, blizzard warnings are in effect. some systems could get one to two feet of snow and 50 miles an hour gusting at times. the cold air is going to remain sunk in place. you're men

nicole mitchell, meteorologist, joins us now. first the snow. >> yes and now there has been a stream on the west going to the north. it ripples a trough on the other side where the cold air degs in. we have seen that with front after front, reinforcing the cold air. it had been a little more east coast. the south has been getting in on the act, and look at this from billings at 17, denver at 20, and all the way to the east coast, with the exception of florida, below-average temperature. two-thirds of the country below average. what does that mean? rain in the south has been snow and ice. a couple of systems over the past week. winter storm warnings and i want to mention a squall line on the southern end producing high wind, and tree limbs down powerlines down. snow in places like alabama, 6-numbers of. as it clears out, we shift our -- 6-inches. as it clears outs november system possibly over texas. >>> the supreme court heard the case of a woman turned down for a job at abercrombie and fitch. the judges seemed ready to sides wit

. >>> cold temperatures more to come this weekend meteorologist nicole mitchell is here. le. >> south and east a brief warmup for a couple of days and then it changes again. let's take a look at the radar because we already have some areas that are starting to see ice with all this. there it is. you can see the pinks in places like tennessee. we have seen some of the precipitation reports, that means the roads will be slick overnight. the brightest parts of tennessee the ice storm warning the bull's eye of all of this. areas can see quarter of an inch or more ever frozen precipitation. that could weigh down the power lines and cause them oto come down. starting as freezing precipitation then swishes over to flow. then it turns over to rain. tomorrow in the northeast snow, but then it switches over to raven probably for sunday before it clears out. now that is warm side of it when we get a little bit of rain. can you see that into the day tomorrow -- you can see that into the day tomorrow. enjoy the milder temperatures briefly while we have them. a lot of people in the nort

meteorology nicole mitchell is here with that. nicole. >> fortunately, the snow from northwest to the mid east is pretty pliech northwest this is going to be a pretty potent system just starting to get going. a very wound up system that is a sense of high winds into the system. this is going to be rain that continues through the course of the weekend. just in the next three days, we could see some places especially in washington and northern california a foot of rain! that's especially in the mountain areas. that means we will definitely see some flooding across the region. >> they're really going to get hammered nicole thank you. >>> tens of thousands of wild horses room the west. efforts to control them pits animal rights activists against the ranchers. >> the wild west, horses beautiful and free or a nuisance depending on who you talk to. >> we've had horses in this area for about a decade. and last summer we were able to remove about 100 excess horses through a water trap. and now we have support to remove the horses do you to

nicole mitchell is here with more on the weather. it's nasty. >> two storms and more cold air. there's a little bit of everything, and speaking of the cold air, look at what it's done for the lakes. we are so frozen over. 84% of the great lakes are iced over. this is a crater stuck in the ice. and you would think to yourself that's the lake that's the furthest south of the great lake, and the shallowest. let's take a closer look at the temperatures. we are already with the next front, causing problems for the east coast, and seeing the cold air. two is the expected high after a brief warm up. there has been a little surge, a southerly flow of air. the last thing we saw is snow or ice. much warmer than the last two days. it gets us back to warmer. comparatively it feels like a heatwave. this continues on the way east by the time we hit monday. the coldest day for the midwest is tomorrow the cold air coming in for the east coast. enjoy the mild stuff while you have it. here is the system as it continues up the coastline. snow for the north-east some with warm air, sleet mixing in

(f) nicole mitchell joins us with the weather. >> almost eastern third eastern half of the country that's under this arctic blast. after last front came through we already had cold air in place. this is funneling more of the cold air. more wind chills overnight. 20 to 40° below average. we could have record setting low temperatures tall way south as key west. alabama, georgia, with the wind in place the wind chills, so many advisoryies up. more of the cold air shifts to the mid atlantic and the northeast. so friday morning is the brutal day for that region. not a lot of snow with the current system yet. that's the other thing we're watching. but as it hits into the northeast, places like maine could get six to ten inches. it is the next system i'm concerned about. more freezing prescription in an area that already had it and is still dealing with icy roads because a lot of that hasn't melted off. as this moves northward this will be saturday for weekend into the northeast. so friday, the south. and then saturday, into the northeast could be icy conditions, that's so much more treacherous

nicole mitchell is here with the weather.w turning to slush. >> and it refreezes with the arctic air to black ice. a couple of problems. california getting much-needed rain in the drought conditions from central california as far south as la. some of that energy will move into the rockies, where we are seeing snow in places like colorado, where the snow systems could see a foot or more. getting into the mid sengsction, and this is the trouble maker. rain southward, snow northward and in the middle we'll see some of that switching to the freezing rain. that will increase overnight as the cold air intersects with the warm air, when you get the freezing rain and sleet. you can see we have that through the mid section southward. different weather advisories storm warnings. here is how this play the out. this will continue to develop over the night tonight. tomorrow could be slick as far south as central parts of texas, and as far south as portions of mississippi. that will be a big problem spot. not alternatived to driving that f

nicole mitchell with more. >> there are some of the lowest temperatures on record in new england, new york and philadelphia experiencing some of their coldest temperatures since the mid 1990s but not just the northeast. key west feeling their coldest day on record friday. midwest snow ice and sleet subzero temperatures. georgia, forecasters predict snow and sleet and temperatures expected to plunge even further. and the temperatures are creating dangerous conditions. not just on the roads where several have been killed but also from hypothermia. in tennessee 17 people died mostly from exposure to the extreme temperatures and a new round of freezing rain has already begun. the cold weather is forcing students to stay home with numerous school districts closing their doors. there have been brutally cold wind chills everywhere east of the mississippi river. feeling like 30 below in syracuse, new york, 14 below in boston and 5 below as far south as raleigh, north carolina. >> so far last year there was a lot of snow, we got a lot of flow but this year it's really cold and the wind is merc

nicole mitchell is here with the latest and if we can't do anything about it, explain it to us. >> it's a separate system. we had one system that caused problems in dallas haps moved off the coastline into places like north korea but however this will continue to brew up, and we have a clipper coming down from the northern tier of the country. iowa and the southern portion of the state, you would expect that in iowa, but watch for the driving, because the wind is going to reduce that visibility. it's this in the south that you do not expect. and we have had system after system this winter, just getting over the one and this one, places like mississippi alabama, georgia northern portions of those states, 1 2 3 inches of snow not out of the question. here's the timing on it. tonight, it starts to farm up, and overnight through the day tomorrow it continues to move its way into the south. and clearing out by thursday. but by tomorrow night yes cities like atlanta could be getting two or three inches of snow. it's not helpful. and the jetstream well to the south. and that brings in the cold

meteorologist, nicole mitchell has where the storm is next. >> well, we have had a lot of problems over the last couple of days. can you see the one front that caused the freezing rain continues to clear through and another front behind that, and not a lot of moisture with that but it's going to reinforce the cold air but tomorrow on the great lakes, it will bring in lighter amounts of snow. but it's the cold air that's going to be significant as it continues to dry up. because of the cold air in place tonight. all of that wet weather through portions of the south will refreeze and this next front is reinforcing the cold air bringing the temperatures down to 20-30° below average of where it has moved through and that means the midwest tonight where the front has brought the colder air -6 in minneapolis and the wind that funnels in from canada behind it, drops the windchills, to the dangerous categories, 20-40 below is what it's going to feel like on your skin, and the cold air sinks farther southward, in places like memphis. into the morning on thursday starts to get that. friday mornin

nicole mitchell is here and can we blame all of this on the polar vortex. >> in part.'m conservative about using that term. it's that arctic air all the way at the pole. you have to have a big weather event to get it into the united states. and the national weather service has tracked this all the way back to siberia. all the way southward to billings and mom -- miami today had the same temperature today of about 60 degrees. and the high-pressure is still to the east. on the backside we're starting to get a little bit of a warmup with a southerly flow. but the east coast overnight, 20 to 40 degrees below average, and that put some of those temperatures themselves sub zero but you add in the wind and we're talking 20 to 30 below. atlanta starts to warmup however. the next system coming along could produce ice for places like tennessee. it's a warmer system though so eventually it does turn into rain. it could start melting that snow off too fast. >> and then you have flooding. >> yeah. >> nicole thank you. >>> poverty and political grievances. that's what president obam

nicole mitchell is back with the latest on this for us. you warned us. >> we knew it was coming. we don't make the snow. we just tell you what is going to happen. here's a look across the country. so a little bit of snow in the rockies, iowa, illinois getting another band. we expect it there. the fact that we've had system after system making it through the south because of all that cold air that had been in place. you can see the dividing line anywhere including northern mississippi, alabama georgia all getting snow. now on the south side of this you can pick out a couple of thunderstorms. actually dynamic enough that we have through this area tornado watch. that does not mean that we have that activity right now but something that has that potential and to be prepared and listen to your weather. the rest of the region, the winter storm warnings are up, and we'll continue to see snow and ice tapering off by tomorrow morning. it could get a gust dusting even in d.c. as this clears out. then another system. look at this, into saturday we want to watch places like dallas for freezi

more now from meteorologist nicole mitchell. >> that expected half foot did occur in a couple of isolated place et cetera franklin county alabama, places like that. a ridge of high pressure that buckles up the -- bubbles up the air to the north we end id up with a trough of cold pressure really to the edge of the country. a lot of february we've been under this pattern. so a lot of places running 20, 30° below average eastern half of the country. by tomorrow at least the eastern half. when you get the moisture in it is going to be snow instead of rain when you you are colder in places like the south. let's get through south. also want to mention, you see the oranges tornado watches oranges are thunderstorm warnings for high winds that are actually possibly occurring now with the storms going through. the rest, the winter storm stuff and we can see mississippi alabama, georgia all places we have been getting snow, a lot of showntsshutdowns going on with this. behind that, we are in the cold air pattern dallas could be 30° below the normal. ice as well, the best chance of that is into the d

now to the weather, cold extremely cold temperatures for the northeast and here is metrologist nicole mitchelly over the next few days is not snow but temperatures especially the cold temperatures as we get into the northeast, we had the front come through and behind that between a new area of high pressure and the low that is has moved out that really causes a pressure gradient of high winds coming from canada but all that cold air funneling in so that is going to be pretty significant for us as we get into tomorrow morning. some of those temperatures 10-20 degrees below average but with that wind that i was mentioning that is going to put the wind chills well below 0 especially in places like north carolina in-- new york and wind chills could be 20-30 below 0 and on the exposed skin be careful with treacherous weather and the east coast is under that cold air, the west coast well above average, places like california about 20 degrees above average and record territory, once again tomorrow. and this goes out for a couple days and you cannot see much of a change in the pattern so that region o

some parts of the united states could soon say the coldest temperatures in decades, metrologist nicole mitchellre in the studio with more. >> this is historic air in some cases, it's february and know it's going to be cold but what is so impressive is the national weather service and noah backtracked some of this air and it has come all the way from siberia and across the pole and into the united states and usually it's from canada and moderated but we had a front chill things down and a second arctic blast set and by the time it's said and done back to the 90s such widespread air and such record-breaking cold. >> give us a sense of scale how far south does this stretch? >> a lot of the fronts in winter don't make it through florida, this made it all the way through the keys key west could set record lows overnight tonight and as you see the jet stream dipping there it made the cold air to ukatan and cuba and i looked up havana and usually in the 60s and tonight could plunge in the 40s and it's impressive and a couple of days before we get the temperatures back to normal. >> thank you very much
