let's bring in nicole parker, former fbi special agent. she left the bureau because it was too politically compromised. and great to have both of you with us today. nicole, let's started with you. you hear is the director defending the agency. you know, he started today by saying we have thousands of agents, thousands of people at the fbi. they come in to work every day with good intentions and work hard. but the things he's being questioned on have to do with some of the highest level officials including presidential candidates and the treatment of them. what do you think about his answer, nicole? >> you know, i was with the fbi for over a dozen years. i can tell you why i was serving this country, i was not doing political investigations. his defending the good fine men and women of the fbi working tirelessly to protect this country. that's not why congress brought him before them to testify today. they want to understand what is happening at the fbi and what christopher wray is doing to correct it and to fix it. americans want answers.

joining me is former fbi special agent nicole parker.ft the fbi. you made a decision to leave the job you love. why? >> it was a difficult decision. i joined the fbi post 9/11. i saw what happened firsthand in new york estimate i was working at -- new york city. i was working at merrill lynch. i wanted to serve the country. i joined the fbi. it was an amazing opportunity, working violent crime, crimes against children, white collar crime. within the last several years of my career, the trajectory of the fbi was definitely changing. there was definitely politicization seeping into the bureau. maria: this was co coming frome top? >> i think it is starting from the top, the top leadership, definitely from headquarters, the d.c. area and it trickles down into the field offices. yesterday we heard testimony from christopher wray. he talked about, for instance, an intel report out of the richmond division. going after catholics. that was not at headquarters. that was from an intel analyst. to say it's only at the top would be incorrect. it has

i want to go to tom dupree, nicole parker, former special fbi agent. tom, the judge said whatever you have that has not been fully shared, you have to start again. does that mean that some of these other issues that have come up like the foreign agents restoration act, whether he violated that and all the communication with foreign governments and all of that, that that now -- you can't exonerate yourself from anything that could come up on that matter? or where does it go? >> that's right. it seems like what the judge was saying is she had serious concerns that the deal that the justice department was offering would basically immunize hunter biden from my future prosecutions under fara or any statutes that might concern the conduct -- his business conduct that he's been engaged in. what is striking to me, the judge asked the justice department lawyers is there any precedent for this deal. the justice department lawyers said no, your honor, there isn't. to me, that really just punctures a hole in the just it's the department's argument that hunter bide

maria: nicole parker. the next hour of "mornings with maria" begins right now. and it is time for tweet, top investors watching your money. let's take a look at futures, with inflation data on deck. the dow jones industrial average and s&p 500 higher, nasdaq as well. s&p and nasdaq closed at the highest levels since april of 2022 following yesterday's better than expected cpi number, showed that inflation slowed in the month of june. we're waiting on the producer price index, out at 8:30 a.m. eastern. the expectations call for a gain of two tenths of a percent on the ppi. joining us is ubs managing director and private wealth investor, alley mccarthy. also with us, mark tepper. mark, i want to kick things off with you on the expectations of inflation. ppi important? >> it is important. when the ppi number is below the cpi number, that's good for businesses, good for margins, shows companies are able to pass through higher costs to consumers but it's not costing them as much to produce. that's certainly a big deal. when we look at the inflation picture overall, t
