nicole saphier. good morning, dr. saphier. >> good morning ainsley. ainsley: good morning.ppen? why are these numbers inflated? >> well, ainsley, undoubtedly children have been harmed as a means of some of the restrictions put in place to try to keep them safe from covid-19. while we have acknowledged for month now that the risk to children is extremely rare in terms of hospitalization and death. about 77 times less than that for those adults aged 65 and older. this new study out of stanford may tell us even our perceived low risk of severity in children is even likely lower than that this data came out. theret throw speckively looked at 265 patient charts of children who are hospitalized and listed as a covid hospitalization. the data showed about 46% of those children were likely admitted to that hospital with had nothing to do with the fact that they were positive for sars cov 2. now that the testing for virus when they come into the hospital. they are finding those infections to be incidental. 40 to 45 of those children were asymptomatic. they just tested positive for t

nicole saphier is here to explain. dr. usly i have been incredibly frustrated for pretty much the last 14 months every single day. this latest move, the recommendations for young children to continue wearing masks is not really based on data. it is a based on a lack of data. last summer we had the cdc coming out children need to get back in school in person, based on what they need. based on a lot of international data. a majority of school systems ignored all of that, kept children out. now children have been in school, many of them. even though we have our own cdc data shows there is negligible transmission amongst little children with mitigation efforts they still require ad lot of them to stay remote. every single adult and adolescent is able to get vaccinated. that is always our concern, as well as parents that the young children potentially bring the virus back home. everyone who wants to be vaccinated at this point has been or been vaccinated. supply is not an issue. children are no in the group. they will not be vac

nicole saphier. is this true? we all say we want kids back in classroom. the majority of us do.portunity for teenagers to be vaccinated obviously conversations will be had between parents and teens and doctors. how do you see it? >> dana, i don't believe that adolescent and young children vaccines should have -- should be a prerequisite for getting it back in school and the cdc didn't recommend that or recommend that teachers needed to be vaccinated to get kids in school. it out weighs the risk of covid-19 in these populations. children should be back in school regardless of vaccination status starting in september. that being said it is important that a safe efficacious vaccine be available for certain children as children do not go unharmed by this virus. of course, they are at much lower risk than adults but some children of higher risk as well as children who live in high-risk individuals. >> dana: i want to ask you also about this. the cdc put out some language guidance that said that less than 10% of covid transmissions happen outdoors. that might be true. actually it's al
