the medical bills were in excess of $1 million for her nicu stay. but when we got home, the second part of our journey started. she was in isolation for the first year. we had to make sure that her lungs had the chance to fully heal and fully develop. she had countless hours of therapy. it started with physical therapy to literally teach her how to roll over. we moved on to speech therapy, as well as occupational therapy. so that's hundreds of hours of therapy that she needed just to catch up to her peers that were born full term and healthy. >> i got a chance to meet her before the show started. >> she's adorable. she looks fantastic. how is she doing now? >> she doing great. she's four and a half. she's super spunky. she's very feisty. the nurses told us the second she was born -- they said, "you know, we have a good feeling about her. she came out and she's just feisty right off the bat. she loves life. she has this joy for life that is just contagious, and i attribute it to her early start. she chose to be here, she fought to be here. >> and you

we are presently moving our icu patients and our nicu babies now. we've already moved dialysis patients and we have many more to go but it is running as a fine-oiled machine. i'm very proud of the staff. >> mary, i'm going to wait for that helicopter to take off so you can hear me. brian, if i still have you on the phone, can you tell me, i mean, i understand they're evacuating, clearly, they're evacuating these patients. how many remain? >> reporter: well, that's a good question. i have to wait for mary to find that out. here in beaumont, they had 193 patients to begin with. and they've been taking them out at a pretty steady clip, we've witnessed five or six ambulances go out on the ground, the two black hawks took about ten or so dialysis patients and we witnessed in the last hour another probably five, six, seven private air ambulances come. we're waiting for that from the hospital to find out how many remain. it's a fairly large facility here. >> and so i presume priority, you know, babies from the nicu, maybe more elderly are getting out first

nicu -- there's so much we can learn now. i told a story about a mother and grandmother that came to see me. they had been given some advice about terminating a db based on an ultrasound and that was by the obstetrician. to go through the story real quick, what they were told whenw they came to see me for a second opinion was not, termination wasn't necessary. this is something that could probably be taken care of after the baby was born. i had a great radiologist all she does is look at vb x-rays all day long. why would you want a radiologist is the only part of the job that's all she did and she said definitively this baby is going to be fine. if it turned out to be true. the obstetrician was very m unhappy with me but to be fair after the baby was born she called me to say how wrong she had been and appreciated what hh had done. now she's a young girl doing great and i asked it wasn't just the mother's intuition on this story, it was the grandmother's intuition as well. i said what was it why did you come to me for a secon

my mom is an nicu nurse so she's dealing with babies. they put their lives on the line every day.natural disaster, even more so. a lot of times bagging the babies by hand when the power goes out. so this is something that these people, they train for their entire lives. they practice drills for this. and when this -- this has sort of become muscle memory. they put their lives on the line every day to make this a reality. when members of congress come back and they'll have a harvey relief bill, they need to remember these workers and make sure when they rebuild, we rebuild the hospitals, rebuild the infrastructures so if a flood like this happens again, these workers have the supplies they need to get the job done. we don't want it to happen again, but katrina happened almost ten years ago and we're witnessing this again. make sure the resources are there so these doctors and nurses and first responders can save the lives they need to. >> sandra: according to the texas website, we don't have a lot of details on this evacuation. we know what the hospital has told us. they put out a

we spent two months in the nicu with our boys, but nothing could have prepared us these moments we'veays with our children, from telling them to grab a grocery bag, put whatever you want in it before we jumped in the car to watching my 8-year-old daughter, lily faith hold two bottles her baby brothers, just looking tearfied and looking up at me, mommy, i'm sick, i don't feel good. having to calm her down as we're driving the opposite way on the highway, just trying to drive to safety away from the floodwaters. it has been really difficult as a mom to try to keep your composure around your kids and encourage them while trying to get your family to safety at the same time. stuart: audrey, you are an inspiration to us all and that's facts. my grandchildren are watching. they are in awe of you. but i do have to make this comment. i covered a lost disasters and catastrophes in my time in america, 40 years, i have never seen such an outpouring of spiritual recognition and faith. i have heard god mentioned, faith mentioned, more often as we covered this disaster than at any previous time. >>
