i speak to one of them, niko caldwell. how far are you willing to go to make sure it's peaceful? >> we were keeping the peace all day. we're blocking people who throw bottles at police officers and making lines and grabbing the persons that are involved. >> reporter: there were reports that bloods and crips were out to get the cops last night is that true? >> no that is definitely not true. we don't want any problems with the police we don't want anyone shooting. we don't want a ceasefire. we were not the cause. we were the same ones for tect ss protecting this neighborhood. >> reporter: and i know for some people the bloods and crips trying to create peace may seem shocking but they say they stopped problems at the mall and stopped problemeds that would have started. i did see folks who we were able to identify as the blood gang and throwing bottles and bricks that police. so we saw a little bit of both from that group. >> i think the real question is what does the leadership in baltimore do once the glare is not so much on their city. that is where the real work begins. and we'

i'm joined by caldwell a member of the blood gang we first met last night. nikoyou were out here last night. there was a line of cops preventing people from moving down north avenue. in front of that line was a line of citizens and a lot of them bloods some of them krips, keeping people from hurting the police. at some point they would move people away from the police to help begin enforcing the curfew. a lot of people would say strange bedfellows helping the police. how is it and why is it those two groups are coming together here? >> i think people have a misconception, what it is is that -- like i said last night, based on the ideologies and beliefs of the bloods and crypts, our belief system comes from the black panther party of the 1960s and you know we all know they stood for peace and protecting neighborhoods and feeding their community and et cetera, et cetera. now as far as helping the police situation, we weren't necessarily helping the police. it's just that we know that martial law is in effect and strag alongs of the crowd that have a bad -- what is
