one of the gaps is still the motive for nima momeni to stab bob lee.s some evidence from the prosecution that nima momeni was angry . there was a phone call overheard by witness has been described as though the dj. and he says nima momeni was acting like an overprotective brother and seemed off when he made a call to bob lee in the hours before the killing. but he admitted that he did not know or have any context for that phone call. and so nima momeni, when he testified brought out texts between himself and jeremy boivin, the drug dealer that bob lee introduced khazar, his sister to and also between he and bob lee in the hours before the killing in the texts between nima momeni and these men was polite , was friendly and nima momeni thank them for answering his questions and testified that he ultimately came to the conclusion that nothing inappropriate had happened with his sister in the hours before the killing. that motive is still in big gap. there is also a big gap about the knife. there still has not and it appears that will not be any testimony

in a line of questioning one prosecutor asked nima why he contacted criminal defense attorneys if he didn't believe he killed or even wounded lee. momeni said it was to protect himself. prosecutors also returning to texts sent by nima to his sister about pursuing a rape case against bob days after he was already dead. that is after momeni said he was sad and heartbroken to learn of bob's passing, momeni's sister texting around the same time, "bob never touched me. no one did." >> so it doesn't necessarily seem reasonable to a juror that he would be pursuing a rape case against somebody who had died and nima momeni was sad this person died. it's something that can't be explained necessarily in a way that makes sense and it may cause them to doubt other parts of nima momeni's testimony. >> reporter: during his testimony nima also repeated that he felt the sfpd lied and mischaracterized him and other evidence when questioned about exactly what he feels is inaccurate, unable to produce a clear answer. now court has recessed for the week, giving jurors plenty to think about over the weeke

another day of testimony in the high profile trial of nima momeni. he's the man charged with murdering tech executive bob lee. the main focus. dna found on the suspected murder weapon and a san francisco police criminologist on the witness stand. nbc bay area's sergio quintana was in the courtroom. san francisco police were able to recover a knife from the crime scene in april 2023. it was hurled into the caltrans yard close to where bob lee called 911 before being rushed to a hospital where he died. the key witness on the stand today. san francisco police criminologist alan oyefeso. the murder weapon is the centerpiece of this case, and certainly the dna evidence on that weapon is going to be important to solve the mystery of what happened to bob lee that night. in court, we learned lee's dna was collected from a blood sample. nima momeni dna sample came from two mouth swabs collected by police on the stand. criminologist oyefeso testified there are some conclusive results for the handle of the knife and its blade. according to the testimony, the sa

they did so as well yesterday for the defendant in this case, nima momeni. they are asking their questions through the judge now, many questions yesterday surrounding why he did not call the police after what he alleges was an attack from bob lee. they also asked about why he didn't call police when he found out that lee had died. and there were more questions around what happened in the days after bob lee's death, nima momeni testified he was not hurt, and lee seemed fine. that was why he did not call 911. now, you know, laura sitting in that courtroom, which we've done so now for the duration of this hearing, you can really see, no matter who is on the stand, the impact that it has on family members who are there every, every day. there are reactions from both sides. people supporting either the defendant on this case or the family of bob lee. you can imagine it's been a pretty difficult month or so for them. we were originally expecting that this trial may wrap up by the end of the week, but we were told this morning that that no longer seems probable. so

nima momeni told a jury of his peers i'm not a murder. so let's get to anne makovec. >> he actually physically reenacted the stabbing with his lawyer and he said it was bob lee who actually pulled out the knife as the reaction to him making some sort of bad joke. but let's back up and go back to what he said let up to that moment. the two had been hanging out at his sister's apartment at the millennium tower. things were cordial. they left with the idea of going to a strip club. they drove to main street and momeni pulled over when lee spilled his drink. then lee found nitrus oxide in the car and began taking them. he testified it sent him off. he went from zero to 100 and his face tensed up. his jaw came forward and you could see the anger. momeni says lee began circling around him and swears. he said he tried to control the hand. momeni reinacted that stabbing saying he was trying to stop lee's arm by pinning it against lee's own chest pushing him back two times. he then said lee walked away in the other direction appearing to look at h

the man charged with killing him is nima momeni. yesterday, momeni testified that the two got in an argument over a bad joke that he told and that he acted in self defense when a knife was pulled on him. abc seven news reporter melanie woodrow with what happened in court today. >> nima doubled down today on testimony that it was a bad joke that set bob lee off. and he also added some new, surprising testimony that he believed it was possible somebody else had stabbed and killed bob lee. after the interaction they had involving a knife, momeni said that when bob lee walked away from him in the early morning hours of april 4th, he looked fine. prosecutor amir talai demanded, the way you made this deadly joke, tell it to us. momeni repeated what he said yesterday that if it were his last night in towne would have spent it with his family instead of expletive around at strip clubs. as talai demanded to know what bob lee said and did next. momeni said lee said, are you calling me a bad expletive, dad? expletive. i'm going to expletive yo

bob lee's family poking holes in witnesses called by the defense including the defendant himself, nimaeni, who lee's brother says can't be trusted on the stand. >> and he's trying to rewrite the history, but it's not true. >> reporter: in a unique twist inside the courtroom, the judge allowing all 17 jurors to submit questions for momeni to answer within the scope of the law. questions including whether momeni was intoxicated and whether he gripped the knife. even sew it leaves many questions unanswered, including how the knife could have ended up in his hand. it puts the credibility of his testimony in doubt. >> and the knife just appears on main street. nobody has testified about him taking it or handling it. that is a huge hole if you want to show intent. >> reporter: jurors probing momeni about his self-defense training. one juror asking momeni if he is familiar with a common practice of twisting the wrist to force a knife wielding person to drop their weapon. he said he did twist lee's wrist, however, an autopsy didn't show any bruising or injuries consistent with that statement,

nima momeni was combative on the stand today, challenging a prosecutor on numerous fronts, trying to ask the questions instead of answering them. and it will be up to a jury to assess his credibility. now, san francisco prosecutor amir talai grilled accused killer nima momeni for the second straight day, trying to poke holes in what he called his story about killing cashapp founder bob lee in self-defense. but it was momeni who tried to turn the tables on the prosecutor, asking him questions, repeatedly talking over him and accusing him of cherry picking his text and testimony to make him look bad. the prosecutor, however, doubled down, asking if it was a coincidence that momeni was repeatedly asking him questions and whether this was what he was doing to lee on the morning. authorities say he killed lee, while many testified he turned down lee's invitation to go to a strip club by telling lee, quote, if i knew this was my last night in town, i would have spent it with my family instead of effing around in strip clubs. end quote. momeni testified that this was a bad joke. momeni said
