>> i think we need to be nimble. >> what does that mean?> because we have to pay attention to terrorist outbreaks that come up often, we need to be nimble. we need to rely on technology. we need to be strategic in how we go about -- >> a smaller military then we have now? >> it might be a different military. it might be smaller, but the most important thing for us is to make sure we have a strong economy in the world. that means making sure that we actually get something done and congress can get the economy back on track. i think we need to be able to react very quickly situations around the world, because many of them are much smaller. what we have done in the past, and congressman king is responsible for this, we have been involved in two wars that have taken a huge toll in human life and money as well. our debt is $6 trillion when he went in -- it is $16 trillion now. we put to wars on the credit card. we have to make sure that before we go into conflict, we are prepared to do that. >> let's ask about what you just said -- you can reply

it stresses who has the more nimble campaign. in virginia where they rescheduled a big event for obama for saturday in virginia, that obama has a more nimble campaign and has been able to adapt to the situation in these states. >> jeff, it's great to have you on, i read you all the time. you know, in politics like in life, there's rain and there's sunshine. and, you know, these guys act like there shouldn't be rain. i just like the sunshine. we don't live on that planet. we live on a planet where you get breaks, you don't get breaks. but there's limbaugh -- forget limbaugh, let's talk about reality. you get the breaks. something happens where you can use your best stuff. i think the president has had that opportunity now. >> and i think -- i think howard is right, he has been able to, you know, become more -- he looks more like a president now. gosh, for several weeks, maybe for several months, he's looked like a democratic candidate for president rather than a sitting president. so i think we're sort of seeing him in a president

it feels like you have to be nimble in this market and make the correct stock choices. what are you choosing? > > i agree, and obviously i am sticking to my game plan i have talked about on this show for several years here, which is stick to enduring brands, strong businesses, and i think, over the next few years, the good stocks, and the market as a whole, is going to be rewarded more than it has been for the last decade. > so let's pull out some of your names. tiffany tends to give you a lot of shine in your portfolio, let's say. > > yes, but they haven't done so well over their last few earnings reports. margins have kind of been compressed. it's not like everyone has been rushing out to buy diamonds, angie. but, it is the holiday shopping season, and households are forming a lot faster over the past 12 months than they have in the past coming out of the financial crisis. so despite this, it is an enduring brand, and it has earnings coming out, and it has such a franchise, it's really hard to mess up. so if you are thinking long-term, here is a company with luxury st

could you start a discussion so we can talk about that and be staying nimble? for example, one of the things i tell early stage entrepreneurs if you are not embarrassed by the first product release you released too late. it's time. one of the employees came to me and i will start this discussion within the linkedin group. could you reinforce that? we are getting too risk averse in the product lunches. we need to be anymore blnimbler. ideas and input from what you see happening with competitors. you see it happen with other professionals you know to how do we akapt? >> i have seen argument that is say companies ask the ipos become less. there is something about cashing out that takes the entrepreneurial dynamism out of it. >> and you're responsible for more people. >> and you have to answer to oh the financial markets. do you buy that argument? >> there is pressure there. the pressure is the usual pressure is quarterly earnings. if you take a risk and stumble in public, there is always egg on the face that comes from this. you have to steer hard against it and s

andy would shut down some markets we need to be but you need to be looking around the corner and be nimble and quick and that's just tough for government in general because they are reactive like you say but with high frequency just traders these traders that i called cheetahs because they're so fast fast fast they really have grown exceptionally fast in the last several years as you know the flash crash may sixth two thousand and ten cent a wake up call that these markets could definitely be roiled big time if we don't watch out so i've called for several things one unbelievably they're not even required these cheetah traders to be registered to they need testing they're not required required to have their programs tested before they're put in a live production environment we also need to have kill switches in case these cheetah programs go feral and finally we need to find these guys if they do something that's wrong if they violate the law by the second. i mean like by the day hundred forty grand by the day by the violation but these guys could make millions in seconds and so we should
