nimitz contains a board to look at this challenge and understand how to approach this. they were authorized to rewrite the cruising instructions that -- but they exceed that. there is a number of surface warfare officers part of that group and an aviator, captain apollo sioux check. they look at the problem and they decided they are going to extend a playbook that had been developed for the war for major actions, big decisive fleet battles. they extend that to minor actions. what they create is a playbook that any of the ships in the pacific fleet can use to understand how to cooperate and fight together in a battle that just sort of appears. the ability to deal with ad hoc formations has been addressed. this supports a fundamental change in how the fleet organizes to fight for the offensive. they had a challenge they have never worked out how to deal with. the japanese have dominion over the mandated islands in the central pacific. the marshals, the carolines, the marianas, guam. they have spent years figuring out how to create a defensive network, a web in these islan

the nimitz freeway looks good, as does the eastshore freeway. we have slowing cool conditions through tracy westbound 580 is slow. there are reports of a crash near grant line. there is no word on if they are blocking lanes but there are slow and go conditions. the bay bridge has a backup in the cash lanes but fast-tracked users are moving along with no delays. it is an easy ride out of oakland into san francisco. that is normal for this time of the morning. it is pretty quiet. the san mateo has no delays, easy breezy working away from 880 to the 101. the 101 looks good in both directions. northbound traveling san mateo all the way into san francisco you should be fine headed that way. southbound 101 is clear. the richmond san rafael bridge is clear. it is a quiet ride making the commute between the east bay and the marin county area. our slowest spot is 580 through the livermore valley section, a 29 minute drive time to 205 to 680. everything else is in the green. if you are hitting the roadways early this morning, you should be in good shape.

admiral chester nimitz at pearl harbor, commander of the pacific fleet, is aware of these challenges. 1942, when the climactic battles are being action on thees fact there is an inability of these officers to make sense of the available information. the issues a directive -- he issues a directive. there will be a combat information center. that is the clearing house for all of the information that is available from radar, whether they be searched, sonars, lookouts. that new organization will synthesize all of that information and provide it to the person in an actionable format. one of the things that is very interesting about this war nimitz issues is he says what we ought to do, hasn't said anything about how. the variability that existed, the individual that existed in the fleet, nimitz triggers it and says, all you subordinate ships, start experiment in with different approaches and i will identify the best, and we will replicate that when it proves successful. report from the fletcher, the last ship in callahan flying, comes back and nimitz and his staff recognize what wiley has

let's start on the nimitz freeway southbound. look out for trouble spot. we have roadwork in effect that is blocking lanes. we are seeing delays as you work your way coming away from 238. that is affected, as well, if you are connecting over to 880. it should be wrapped up by 5 am this morning. keep your eye on that. look at these delays already. 580 out of the altamont pass is busy anyway for all the super commuters, but we do have reports of a vehicle fire westbound 580 right at northland. three lanes are blocked. the two, three and four lanes are shut down. it is causing a big backup already heading through there. heads-up traveling for the tracy commute to the altamont pass. once you get past this, traffic is better to near the dublin interchange. 104 minutes is causing major delays, 80 is in the clear and so is 101. the traffic looks pretty good. so far, so good on the bay bridge. we don't have any delays just yet. things are pretty quiet coming out of oakland heading into san francisco. a couple cars and the cash lanes but that is typical this type o

pretty much the case for most of the nimitz freeway this morning. if you are traveling near paseo grand, traffic is grade. here's a live look at conditions both directions there. in fact, light even south of here heading all the way into fremont and into the south bay. so if you are heading out early this morning on 880, good to go. westbound 580, though, not quite the same case here. the 205/680, 36 minutes. we have had accidents on 580. one at grant line, another one at north flynn. they are both in the clearing stages. a lot of glass debris reported in lanes so that's definitely slowing traffic down as you head through there. busy anyway, always one of our hot spots coming out of tracy connecting from the 580/205 connector. eastshore freeway great start right now no delays westbound and an easy ride as you work your way out of richmond. in fact, safe to say you have some nice speeds coming out of hercules as well, westbound towards emeryville. getting on the bay bridge, shouldn't be too much trouble this morning. and south bay so far, so good. go

we are tracking two issues on the nimitz. south 880 past a street for the first one, the crash moved to the shoulder. took a while because it was in the middle lanes and that's what caused the early back-up. it's sorting itself out. that's good news. 880 toward davis, another crash. looks like everything is on the shoulder there as well. we do have a slower drive but a smooth drive heading south from oakland in towards san mateo bridge. getting to the bay bridge easy drive through the maze. back-up at the bay bridge toll plaza of course. we're watching debris and they have to pull a couple vehicles from the shoulder west 580 here at grant line road coming out of the altamont. a live look out here, bay bridge, upper deck, westbound, moves smoothly, eastbound towards treasure island, heard about a disabled big rig at the off-ramp. that may be a problem. not like the big rig couldn't make the problem, back up. getting out of san francisco towards treasure island you may have a quick traffic break. just a note but it shouldn't be

this is the nimitz freeway, northbound 880. not so bad in this portion. traffic is moving nicely working away from san lorenzo into fremont. it is clear but north of here we are getting first reports of a car fire north 880 at the eastshore freeway, right at the maze. it is reported off to the right shoulder. according to chp, there is a lot of smoke coming across a freeway and causing traffic to slow down. it is as you connect north 880 on 280 itself. it will affect her drive into the maze this morning. across the bay on the peninsula, 280, the mainlines of the freeway are okay but southbound we had an accident at page mill road. it is in the recovering stages and only affecting the ramp. you can have some restrictions through there. good in the south bay with no major delays on 101. from this portion all the way through the peninsula, you should be good to go . 280 looks good through this portion, as well. guadalupe bay parkway is off to a good start. south of there we have a reports of a broken down vehicle on 17. from the looks of it, doesn't look lik
