no law that bridges the freedom of speech. and yet since 1954, our government has restricted that freedom in churches, synagogues, and mosques across the country. i myself a pastor for 25 years prior to coming here personally experienced this. thomas jefferson said that to take a single step beyond the boundaries, especially drawn around the powers of congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power no longer susceptible to definition. and what we're trying to do is return to the intended definition of the 1st amendment and free our religious congregations from the icy glaze of the irs. hr 1, the bill before us, in this committee, espouses the ideals of freedom of speech. my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have stated that this bill is about giving every citizen of our country the right to express that freedom. i wholeheartedly agree that the right of freedom of speech must be respected by our government because my amendment seeks to protect the rights of free speech, while providing safeguards for the delineation of the nonprofit sector in our tax code. i strongly believe that this deserves our vote. i yield
