i represent noaa, the national oceanic and atmospheric association. this system encompasses more than 600,000 square miles of marine and great lakes waters from washington state to the florida keys and from the huron to american samoa. we represent the sanctuary off the coast of north carolina, which you can see here with the arrow. here's some other representations of our sanctuary, but we are located about 16 miles off the coast of cape hatteras, north carolina. and we're in 230 feet of water where the labrador and gulf stream currents collide. not only is it casualties and only a dozen wounded. that evening the u.s.s. monitor arrives in hampton roads after coming from new york where it was built. the monitor took up protective positions against to the grounded u.s.s. minnesota, which is a stream frigate. on march 9th, 1862, the virginia fired from a thousand yards out against the u.s.s. minnesota hitting the ship and causing an explosion. the monitor quickly moved to intercept the virginia and the two ironclads circled one another, trading shots at

the noaa outlook is out, and we are headed into a triple dip la nina. what does that mean?a nina pattern being reinforced meaning that the pacific ocean has cooler than normal temperatures and that sends this. cooler temperatures for the northern plains and great lakes, more precipitation there through parts of the interior northeast, and then average temperatures except where you see the orange, that's warmer in places where we don't need it. the desert southwest unfortunately stays very much under a ridge in that type of situation which is no good. do you know who really needs that change? seattle, and lots of spots from oregon through washington into vancouver. they have had terrible fires, incredible heat, and now we're starting to see that pattern shift happen today. so we'll start to get some rain to clear that smoke out, but there are also winter weather advisories, 6 to 12 inches. winter is coming. your local weather now. >>> coming up, we'll tell you about a woman who was gored by a bison. the incident was caught on camera. she's now telling her story. stay with us
