happy to be here today to talk about our proposed acquisition of the noe valley town square. the noe valley town square is located at 3861 24th street and owned by the church adjacent to this parking lot and home to the noe valley farmers market and attended every week and happens in the current parking lot. the friends of noe valley town square and the parks alliance have worked together over the past three years to build consensus about the acquisition for the neighborhood and permanently establish this space of parking lot as open space in the heart of the neighborhood in perpetuity once it's under our direction and that has included 200 participants and meetings as well as the friends of noe valley town square had a weekly table at the farmers market during this time and i want to commend the community for building consensus with the neighbors and ideas for the park. the park is a quarter acre and currently a parking lot and our intention is develop the ideas that the community has developed and transform this space into a nice neighborhood park that would include a play

i sit on the board of san francisco beautiful and also the neighborhood association noe valley. i also work with several of the neighborhood associations to propose to the board that we complete the job of undergrounding all the utility overhead lines in this city well before my lifetime, which i don't have very long. so, the next 20 years -- before 20 years are up. as you can see, this is just one block within my neighborhood. on the left it shows 28th street. on the right it is duncan. next to each other, one is underground, one isn't. and we have this throughout the entire city. we would like to see all of the city's overhead lines undergrounded so we can leave a legacy much beyond our lifetimes. several major cities have already done this.

is a long plan and desired project on 24th street at the location of the noe valley farmers market. the noe valley farmers market is one of the very best farmers market street in the city and it is one of the very few that is operated independently without an outside vendor. ~ markets it is created and operated by people who are in the neighborhood. it is an amazing institution. the parking lot that is used for the farmers market will be sold. the noe valley ministries which owns the market, which owns the parking lot needs to sell the property in order to finance its earthquake retrofit. so, it will be sold either to a developer, to probably put condominiums there or we can keep it as really the only open space in the 24th street commerce corridor and create a permanent town square which will host a farmers market as well as provide permanent open space for the neighborhood. this is a very, very high priority in the neighborhood. i think it would be a very positive thing. the neighborhood has already raised $500,000 to help with the build out. once the acquisition is complete. ~ an

which they paid $4.2 million for for a park on 24th street within noe valley. we want to look at that appraisal and see how it pencils out against their purchase price. so, we are in discussions with rec and park and others that are -- keep coming forward and are interested in the site. if we can enter into some sort of exclusive negotiating agreement with somebody about that, then we can actually talk about the terms and conditions for that site and what the future use might be of that site. the things that we've done at francisco, we've taken the roof off as you know, that cost us about $300,000. so, we don't have the safety issue any more, but we haven't done anything else to that site except secure it at this time. we have a number of other properties that are in various stages of sort of development or sale. the kmj property down at sunnydale that we've hearkened to the commission, is at the board of supervisors. it will be introduced at the board of supervisors very soon. we have a couple properties we're moving forward with potentially identifying as sur
