joining us now, oakland city council member noel gallo. nice to have you on the program.ou're joining us via the phone here. you've been around for a long time. is this even surprising to you, what we just went through in the last 24 hours? >> well, you know, i grew up here in the city of oakland and been in the political world for the last 20, 30 years and on the oakland city council for 10 years. but what is currently happening not only on our streets but within the leadership of the city is really a challenge. >> council member, who do you blame here, and what should happen to that person? should they be out of a job? is it the mayor, the city administrator? who do you blame? >> we're a mayor form of government that the mayor at the end of the day has responsibility and oversight of hiring and firing. and certainly the city administrator reports directly to the mayor. you know, supervisors, all administration, and staff. so we need to make that very clear. the city council, if i was to try to direct anyone at the staff level, then they would accuse me of micromanaging,

and earlier tonight, we did speak to oakland city councilman noel gallo about the city's missed opportunity to receive that state funding. and he said it's inexcusable. if i have to get on my knees to the governor tomorrow to allow us to submit it, the additional information that we needed to submit, i'll do that. and but right now, the business community is upset, frustrated with us. councilman gallo goes on to say, the city of oakland needs all the money it can get and that he expects frustration in the community city is going to escalate. well, the dreamforce conference wrapped up today in san francisco. salesforce ceo marc benioff is quite happy. now, the city stepped up to make it a great event. benioff spoke to ktvu christian captain this afternoon, literally while on the move. dreamforce 2023 is winding down, but san francisco's streets are still packed full with more than 40,000 conventioneers in town. before the three day convention got underway. salesforce ceo marc benioff said that he wanted the city to step up and make sure that visitors had a trouble free stay so far, he says,

oakland city councilman noel gallo says he gets complaints about this on a regular basis from people in the fruitvale district. i grew up here in the city of oakland and i've never seen the level of requests for public safety like i have today. we need to get our 911 system in order. the letter threatens if oakland pd's numbers do not meet compliance by the end of july next year. 911 calls could get rerouted to another agency. in a statement, the city said the oakland police department has identified to cal oes that the primary contributing factor to call answer times is lack of staffing. there are currently 63 dispatch call taking staff and 14 vacancies to address vacancies. they say they're continuously recruiting for dispatcher jobs, adding they've already interviewed 54 candidates since june and they also plan community outreach and public informational events like one held on wednesday night. you know, i was surprised to hear that from the state with their threat. but but, you know, hopefully that'll move the city of oakland to get it done repaired and fixed immediately to addre

city council member noel gallo represents this area.lls me police located and arrested one person who is a juvenile. investigators say the car was stolen and that the second vehicle that struck the victim got away. everybody has to have a little bit more respect for people because it was a person. it wasn't an animal. now, neighbors tell me they took this video of lupe recently that she struggled with addiction issues. one man who works in the area says she's a fixture in the neighborhood. she was cleaning around the parking lot, cleaning the street, walking around. everybody need respect and i feel bad. don't hurt somebody hit and run. people in the neighborhood tell me the area is dangerous. pedestrians and drivers often disregard traffic signals as another red light speeding. and it's insane. the only way, you know our behavior is going to change change is by enforcement. we need to find justice. this person that did this, they need to turn herself in. gail tells me to make the area safer. police and the chp will start conducting dui
