[applause] chairman nolan: thank you. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. i have worked in the community for more than 20 years. seven of those years in an after-school program. i have been an interpreter. i was also called to school district meetings to me with counselors and teachers. one of the number one issues that i have dealt with with the kids i worked with is arriving late to school because they are looking for change to get on the bus or the parents left them money or they did not have money. it is critical for me, as an educator, i always tell them accountable. i think this is the opportunity they are holding us accountable, as adults, for their education. it is critical and one of the simple things we can do to help children with their education. so they do not have to worry about how to get to school every day in. the last point i want to make is, it is important for you guys to set a time line for this. i ask you to please set a time line. we need this to start by the end of this year. it is a much-need

chariman nolan: thank you. i see that supervisor avalos has joined us. we will extend the same courtesy to you that we did to supervisor campos and allow you to say word. supervisor avalos: good afternoon. thank you for having me. i want to think the public for giving me the space to jump the line, so to speak. as you know, the board of supervisors just approved a resolution urging the mta to look into how we can afford to have free fast passes for young people in san francisco. i support that. the actual resolution came out of my committee on the city operations and neighborhood services committee, where the youth commission had to work with groups around the city. some of the best presentations i have seen from anyone is from the young people or adults or seniors that presented. they did a fine job laying out the need and their presentations were stellar. these are difficult times with the budgets. i want you to know that you have the board of supervisors will support in trying to make this happen. we want to

[applause] >> hi will just had that as it can be for our employees driving in san francisco can be dangerous, there had been a spate of robberies, very cowardly acts of an individual's that has been robbing taxi drivers. you can imagine the driver would be terrified and knowing that someone like that is out there. the good news is that the san francisco police department has made an arrest. we don't have any more information about it. it is ongoing, but we are hopeful that they have captured the person responsible. i wanted to make you aware to the extent that they have the right person, kudos for getting the person of the street. >> this is an award for a taxi driver. i hope this to be the beginning of that kind of recognition on a regular basis. there are many people out there that do a great job on a daily basis. >> i think that was a sentiment that you or someone else made at the last meeting and we will figure out. we have this serendipitous opportunity, we'll figure out a way to

chairman nolan: and there is a second. secretary boomer: that includes our discussion -- that concludes our discussion for today. chairman nolan: good work, everybody. >> hi, my name is melissa griffen. and a member of the league of women voters of san francisco. >> proposition b authoress the city to authorized to hundred $48 million in bonds to improved street structures such as bridges. this would come with an increasing property tax, if needed, to pay for those improvements. the city is responsible for maintaining about 850 miles of streets. a study shows about half of the streets any major repairs. the city can only use this bond money to pay for and repairs city streets. it will improve lighting, sidewalk extensions, trees, and landscaping. renovation programs to increase safety, and add this traffic signals to improve muni service. the mayor and the board of supervisors have to approve the final project. this measure requires the approval of two-thirds. is the right here with supervisors got leaner -- supervisor sco

chairman nolan: let me say couple of things. i have thought about this in terms of options going forward. i would ask if members of the board agreed to ask staff to look at -- option a would be totally free to everyone under the age of 18. the second option is if we did it free for only certain hours, certain days, that kind of thing. option c would be to reduce fares to make it more affordable, although not totally free because we do not have the resources. and of course the basic option is the status quo, which is really unacceptable. we always start with the baseline, so i would suggest we look at something like this. i would also suggest that we consider a person on staff to talk to about this. someone that would take this on and know what this is. someone who could work with power and others who are involved in all of this. somebody else i would mention would like to have his done by the end of the year. this is not going to happen by january 1, two dozen 12. in my opinion, it is possible that we could do some of it. but no

next speaker director nolan: please. -- director nolan: thank you. next speaker. >> now, we go back to the story. it taxes director, as we talked about in the previous different meeting, she went with-cab company with the president to canada, and she was slammed with a credit card charge. now, going to that credit card, driver's are putting in the cabs a message that cash is preferred. it is a continuous fight going on. and 32-year-old cabdriver coming to work every day for 32 years. she has a dispute with one of the customers, and she was fired for not accepting the credit card. that 32-year job gone in minutes. going further, after the drivers' protest, we were put into town hall meetings. 36 hours of town hall meetings, six days, six hours each day. when they tried to stop us from speaking the truth, what happened? the report came against her. they find an outside consultant, and that consultant is now preparing a report, which can sue them and the people presented to that consultant were single people who have no clue, but they are a friend of he
