it's than 95 days since the president announced the nomination.this is longer than any other attorney general nominee has had to wade in recent memory. by way of comparison the democratic-controlled senate confirmed michael mckay c. as attorney general and 53 days. eric holder, 64 days. now i separate hearings with loretta lynch and i listen to the questions particularly from the republican side because most of all democrats are supporting her that i know of and i listen to the questions of the republican side and i came to the inescapable conclusion that the republican senators were going to refuse any effort to renominate eric holder for attorney general. that's all they had to say. their grievance was with the sitting attorney general who announced he is leaving as soon as his successor is chosen. i listen carefully for any criticism of loretta rand -- alleged that did you hear me. a panel that has the majority republican chosen witnesses and democratic witnesses and early on i believe senator leahy asked the question of all the witnesses there

how did they ever nominate this actor, how did they ever not nominate this actor.kating contest in the olympics. it is not a basketball game where you keep score. it is judges sort of giving their opinion. is that really where the issue lies here it is in the composition of who's casting those ballots. >> i don't know. it's not just a matter of who's casting the ballots. obviously that's important but they really regardless of the racial makeup they are a representative of the culture and how the country at large feels. if you look at how the country has been doing over the last year or so in terms of race we have a lot of problems in every part of the united states society and culture. one of the things that you have to ask yourself or at least i ask and i think that the rest -- that the non-voting academy members should be asking themselves is how do you have a movie like "selma," for example, where the director has done something extraordinary. it is one of the first times i can remember in american history where you watch a movie about the civil rights period f

nominated then when?ll mean a lot. winning best picture, you can't what a price on that. there are a lot of people all over the world who pay close attention to the nominees for best picture. they will actively seek those thees out before they watch ceremony, because they want to feel like they are a part of it. they want to have an opinion on those movies. the nomination goes a long way. if your film is timed well, to benefit theatrically from a nomination, that is much better. the price point on a theatrical ticket is far better than the price point on amazon or obviously netflix, where they aren't making a lot of money off of a movie. if someone is watching a nominee on amazon, they compile five people into the room and pay six dollars for it. if they see it in theaters, distributors make more money. >> give us an idea of the boost it gets by a nomination, percentagewise. i also want to get a flavor of, who has the momentum? who has momentum going into the ceremony? >> the momentum is "birdman" and "bo
