thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at noon. i'm justine waldman. there's a growing force of firefighters that are moving in to los angeles today as more powerful winds are expected to trigger. >> a new dangers that could be setting back the recent containment progress. at least 24 people been killed and thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed. crews and equipment from canada, mexico and all across the u.s. arriving now to assist the first responders ahead of what could be a few dangerous days there in southern california. we'll take a look now at the latest numbers on the 3 active wildfires that have been burning in los angeles county since last tuesday. the palisades fire is 14% contained and has burned more than 23,000 acres. the eaton fire is 33% contained and has burned more than 14,000 acres. the hurst fire is 95% contained. it has burned nearly 800 acres. and today officials warned about criminal activity and public interference during the efforts to contain the flames and rescue people. >> overnight we had several other arrest.

the news at noon starts now. >> this is ktvu fox two news at noon. >> good afternoon. i'm gasia mikaelian i'm andre senior. >> our top story continues to be the wildfires burning in southern california, as more danger lies ahead for firefighters in the coming days. officials say the santa ana winds will keep the fire threat high until wednesday night. the strongest gusts are expected tomorrow. red flag warnings are also in place as crews continue to battle the flames on the front lines here in the bay area. there is also a high wind advisory. wind gusts could pick up throughout the day. this morning we took video of a sign warning drivers about the high winds on the bay bridge and to use caution as they were driving. ktvu meteorologist rosemary oroczo is here with more on that. good afternoon rosemary. >> good afternoon, andre garcia. a live look here first over san francisco where plenty of blue sky. and we know it has to do with all that wind that is just keeping things on the clear side. the wind advisory will go until tomorrow morning. it is for our bridges as well

the news at noon starts now. >> this is ktvu, fox two news at noon. >> good afternoon, i'm james torres. we start with breaking news out of san francisco this afternoon. employees of laguna honda are evacuated. that's because of a three inch gas line struck in the area. you're looking at video from twitter, from the san francisco fire departments page pg. and e is on the scene. they are repairing the pipe. we know the gas is now shut off. no word yet on how soon repairs will be done, nor when people can safely return to the area. we are monitoring the situation. we'll bring you updates as soon as we learn them. in the meantime, two oakland fire stations closed today in an effort to help balance the city's budget. ktvu is amanda quintana, live at oakland city hall, where the firefighters union just held a news conference calling on the city council to keep those fire stations open. amanda. >> yeah. that's right. so this is a temporary closure that's expected to last six months. but what it means is that those fire stations will be empty, so there's nobody inside to answer any calls for h

. >> this is ktvu, fox two news at noon. >> good afternoon. i'm gasia mikaelian firefighters hoping a change in the weather will help them gain ground on some southern california wildfires. the largest is burning right now. the palisades fire has burned 20,000 acres, has just 8% containment at this hour. the eaton fire, burning in altadena, has charred 14,000 acres. 3% containment there. and a new fire sparked yesterday. the kenneth fire burning in ventura is up to 1000 acres. it's at 35% containment. firefighters are gaining ground on the hurst fire. that fire has burned 800 acres, 37% containment there. officials across los angeles county say at least ten people have died due to these wildfires, and they are bracing for what the next few days could bring. ktvu fox's connor hanson live now with the latest in los angeles county. connor. >> garcia, you ran through the numbers. still, so much work to be done on several major wildfires. we're standing in pacific palisades, near one of the largest of all of those fires, the palisades fire. 3000 fi

the news at noon starts now. >> this is ktvu, fox two news at noon. >> good afternoon. i'm gasia mikaelian. we'll begin with breaking news here in hayward, where a reported stabbing is under investigation at the bart station. there it is impacting passenger service. we'll head to ktvu. tom vacar live with this breaking report, tom costello notes here. >> so i want to get right to them now, sometime after 10 a.m, a person was stabbed. apparently some sort of an altercation occurred at the entrance turnstile of hayward, bart, where one person who did not pay was confronted by another person who did pay. that resulted in one person being stabbed. bart police as well as hayward police responded, but the assailant or assailants had already departed. we're told that two people had been detained, possibly at the south hayward station. all of this needs to be put into perspective. however, the latest numbers from bart police department show that at the end of august, overall crime in the system was down 15% compared with the same period in 2023. the trend includes a 10% drop in

new at noon. we have an update today on last week's moss landing power plant fire in monterey county. the board of supervisors voted to pass a resolution today to declare a local emergency. this happened at their special meeting, where other county officials shared more details about the incident. the fire forced hundreds of people to evacuate and prompted highway one to close for several days. the county also responded to residents concerns about the environmental impacts of the fire. >> we feel fairly confident that at least where our monitors are situated and our sensors are situated, that there was no adverse impact associated with emissions from the plant fire. >> monterey bay air resources district representative also said there were some tests they chose not to perform, which some residents at today's meeting said makes them, quote, skeptical about the county's environmental data. it's been two weeks since the big wildfire started in southern california, and the danger is not yet over. stro
