noor congressional report finds it may have been prevented. fox 25's jacqueline feld was given an early look at the investigation and joins us from washington. >> the reporter: the cyber attacks exposed social security security clearance information on current, former and perspective government employees, as well as contractors. a congressional report out today by house republicans on the oversight committee is damming, it lays out missed opportunities before the attack. it finds offices of personnel management, opm, could have prevented the attacks if it put in basic, required security controls. the report found independent auditors warned for years the hackers. the agency said in a statement that opm disagrees with much of the report, saying it does not fully reflect where the agency stands today. the top democrat on the panel also rejects the report, his office telling me this mornings it's unfairly critical of past leaders at opm and doesn't properly address the mistakes made by federal contractors. in washington, jacqueline feld, fox 25 n
