nora compo spoke to us this morning. told us she's upset the city decided to lay off 49 firefighters last month, and this morning, she says the mayor is playing political games with firefighters. we are live in front of city hall in san jose. highlighting this issue, take a look at this. three fires yesterday morning erupting in a two-hour period, leaving firefighters struggling to get to them. response times shot up from 8 minutes to 10 minutes, longer than the department's target time. firefighters say yesterday's strain proves the city is risking public safety. mayor chuck reed defended the city's layoffs and says the residents are safe. the city is willing to reinstate the firefighters, though, if and only if the union agrees to take an almost 9% cut in wages and benefits. a top paid firefighter would lose about 11,000 dollars a year. when they met in this hall yesterday to vote on whether or not to make the concessions, voting ends today. pete constant says the department does not have conquered evidence the cuts ar
