norman davies, author of beneath another sky, thank you very much. thank you very much. weather has certainly been causing disruption over the last couple of days and we are not out of the woods yet. more ice and snow and strong winds. ice is developing widely across scotland and northern ireland, northern england as well, temperatures as low as —i2, perhaps —14 across rural scotland. a very cold start. further south this band of rain turned to snow as it bumps into that cold air. the met office have issued an amber "be prepared" warning for the extent of the snow. this is the region where we are most likely to see that destructive snow, through central wales, the midlands, northern england, five to ten centimetres pretty widely but we could see more than that. this band of rain, sleet and snow, on the southern edge mostly falling as rain but there could be some sleet or snow mixed in. further north toward sheffield we're likely to see significant snowfall, and the wind is a real feature. gusts of around 60 mph. the northern half of the country much quieter, still a few
