i'm so grateful to norman fong and the chinatown community development centre for bringing this to our attention and working with us for so many amazing projects including many that house so many of our seniors, the mayor's office of housing, supervisor viewer, and supervisor peskin, thank you so much for your work. i am grateful to the lee family and grateful to ed lee who devoted himself to this important work for decades. i am honored that today we aren't really celebrating what is equipment to the thing that he cared about. protecting and supporting all san franciscans in a way that allowed for a way to have a safe and incredible way to call home. i want to thank each and every one of you for joining us here today. i want to take this opportunity to acknowledge norman fong and the folks from chinatown community developmenton monday held an incredible community celebration at portsmouth square. thank you so much for that great celebration. thank you to walter wong for the dinner that your hosting for the family this evening. many great tributes to honor ed lee. but they all pale in comparison to the next folks that i will introduce. i remember many meetings with mayor lee, and we would have discussions about the fillmore heritage centre, and other venues and performance stores performance venues. that then you would say is what do you think? may be we can get preston turner to perform at the event. may be we can get him to perform he left preston turner and pure ecstasy was one of his favorite group. he would regularly go to the broad away grill. he was always so excited. he got excited about his corny jokes, but he got more excited about preston turner and pure ecstasy. i will ask him to come and perform in his honor. anyway, i am at the chinatown dinner with my good friend, it is a dinner with my good friend norman fong and his boys, and i'm at the dinner and i walking across the floor and going to the washroom, because when you are my age you go a lot, and gail gilman, who i enjoy as a human being, they are just amazing. i called them to see if somebody could give a tour. they did not build it like they were building housing for the chronically homeless, they built it like they were building for human beings to live in, thrive, prosper and grow. [cheers and applause] >> just because people are poor when you do something for them, you don't have to make them feel like it. just do it. and so i'm walking across the floor and dale grabs my hand. she says, reverent, can we talk for a minute? i want to ask you something. we just fifth -- finished 1750, and we want to name it for somebody in the community in the fillmore, not thinking about what gentrification means, it is still the fillmore. and she said, we want to name it after and we thought you could help us figure it out. i said sure. let's get toget

all of the folks here today, norman fung from chinatown community development. thank you reverend fonge have so many people who are doing such incredible work throughout san francisco. people who care about making sure that we at city hall are doing our job to make the right investments to make their jobs easier to provide the support necessary to change people's lives. that is what this is about. it is about providing a better future for san francisco. i want to thank each and every one of you for being here today, and this proposal will be in the hands of the board of supervisors, and at this point, as a mayor, i don't have a vote on the board of supervisors anymore, so i would encourage you all to reach out to your board member, and those that you have relationships with to express how important the investments that we are trying to make our do what you care about here in san francisco. that is what this is about. making sure we are taking care of san franciscans. this is not a proposal that i came up with. this is something that has been communicated to me through members of the co
