and an electrical fire led to a dangerous gas leak in norris town. this is happening right along east main street in norris town. nbc 10's jesse gary is live for us. what do you know at this point? >> reporter: that leak is affecting the businesses. fire department has vented three businesses on main street. 36, 40 and 48. they're waiting for crews to come. the leak is actually underground. and it was discovered by that lamp post all the way to the lef lamp post. a fire at the base of that lamp post. the fire department responded and determined that there's underground equipment that caught fire. and that's producing dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. how dangerous? well, the fire chief tells me someone was inside one of these buildings, they were at a great risk of dying within minutes. so they opened all the doors, brought in those large fans and ventilated the building to drop the level of carbon monoxide and now waiting for crews to come and start digging into the street and trying to get to the root of the problem. we'll have another update in

. >>> we want to turn to molly norris who has been in fear for her life and in threats for her safetys day, and so now, david gomez, you were the fbi assistant in charge of the molly norris case and what did you think when you heard that islamic nuri al awlaki issued a death threat to her? >> well there was a debate of the executive management as to what our proper role should be. did we have a responsibility to the protect molly, and that argument was made at the fbi head quarter, and of course, it came back, absolutely. nobody in seattle wanted to be the first field office in the united states where an american citizen was vicktim mized for exercising her first amendment rights. >> so molly was forced to leave her family and friends and go into hiding and she has not been able to work and years afterwards she is still underground. >> well let me make one thing clear, she was not forced. she was given the option. we presented a number of options for her, and we provided herr with a certain amount of expertise in amount of personal security. >> and the threat was credible? >> oh, abso

this woman here who we're looking at this picture on the rostrum, this wonderful picture of edith norris rogers. rogers was a widow from -- she's from massachusetts, represented a district from northern massachusetts. and she succeeded her husband, john rogers, who was a high-ranking member of the foreign affairs committee. the ranking republican. and she actually had a lot of experience helping him with administering the committee and administering his personal office. and so she knew what his legislative agenda was. we kind of new the rhythms and the contours of life here on capitol hill. one of the things that happens when a senior member passes away like that, the house has to have a special election. no one can be appointed to the house. and depending on state laws that election has to happen in a fairly short amount of time. so what would happen is local party leaders would turn to the widow and say will you run for the partial term. because you have name recognition. rogers is going to be on the ballot. the expectation was that the wife would serve out this term and then she would

one of the suspect who police think is responsible for beating a 28 year old man walking on east norris street in fishtown, again, on december 20th when three men about 18 years old punched, kicked, hit the victim with a trash can. shows one of the suspect outside after house on the block police say they've received complaints about the house, but don't believe the suspect live there. neighbors tell us, they are concern, they also tell us they've not really seen too much trouble in the area. so they were kind of surprised and taken back by what occurred on december 20th. during the attack, the victim dropped his car keys, police say, the suspect later picked them up, came back, and stole the man's car, fortunately the victim is doing okay, he did escape the attack with only some scrapes and bruises. alex mike? >> so did we ever see that beating on the tape, on the surveillance video? >> no, it looks like it is video from a separate incident that just happened to capture one of the suspect apparently, they all hang out around this house that's become trouble in the neighborhood. >> i mea
