that is because of this low pressure system sitting off of the atlantic seaboard around virginia and north carolina. it is bringing heavy rain to the eastern shore. focus city at about 0.75 inches of rain in the last hour. this will spin around all night bringing light rain to the majority of the viewing area. it is something we will have to watch throughout the evening. as far as the rain fall today, it is a bit misleading. the main rain gauge is at bwi marshall. they had just a trace of rain. for august, we are about 0.1 inches below normal. year to date, we are almost 8 inches below normal. temperatures are pretty good. the cloud cover kept temperatures low. anywhere from the 70's west of the area and also on the eastern shore they work in the 70's. ocean city is now at 68 degrees. the majority of the precipitation on the eastern shore. there is the low pressure system over the hampton roads area on the outer banks of north carolina. that will sit there for the next couple of days. it will bring with it quite a bit of rain for the eastern portions of our viewing area. as it spends, it w

we had a negative what we call north atlantic oscillation which was combining.his was your best three for tandem out there and that was keeping us cold and snowy in the east. this year, the nao got traded, so it's not around. i am trying to take this as simple as possible without getting into meteorology but that is a player that was just having a bad year. a good year as far as we are concerned but a bad year in terms of snowfall. >> i was thinking about the fact that we have talked about this which seems like it's completely a different subject but it has to do with the risk in their acceptance of that risk and it occurs to me that there is an impatience among consumers of information to accept a certain level of risk and inherent in act or say whether it's forecasting something which is difficult to do as terrorism as well as weather so that gives to the question of someone both here and you acknowledge this in your prepared remarks and there was controversy with hurricane irene in the forecasting with one and where exactly that storm would land and then here

the dry air is to get pushed further north we're looking good in the mid-atlantic states but not so much in the deep south where we have continued flooding rains spiraling in off the gulf coast. even though isaac has been downgraded to a tropical depression, flooding rains will be a concern in the saturated areas that have received one to two feet of rain in southern mississippi and louisiana. now parts of the country that are parched with drought will get some welcome rain out of this system up through central missouri and illinois, the bread basket. we could see scattered showers, rain we don't need but scattered showers coming in as early as our labor day. here's the trend. showers drift further. we're still dry, great start, hot and maybe a few more clouds holding temps down. showers will push east. the front dipping down, so a frontal boundary will help push that shower act in our direction by monday. hurricane kirk is to the north, not a threat to lnld, a more ominous look storm leslie. the projection is to stay in the open atlanta eke waters, be a storm. tonight 65, mostly clear.
