heads up on the low visibility, especially the north bay. drew was just talking about it, be careful. the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are o things are moving smoothly into san francisco. i want to let you know about something happening in the city, we have caltrans construction. some things are down to one lane on south bend 280 between six street -- 6th street and mariposa street. a slowdown out of tracy's continuing, up to 41 minutes. any to concord, slowdown. a 19 minute ride. kumasi: new at 6:00, doctors seeing your eyes may hold the key to your true biological age. researchers in australia say this is important, because it could reveal if you are at risk of early death. think about it this way. just because two people are the same age does not mean they are physically declining at the same rate. researchers say the retina, the tissue at the back of your eye, could offer a glimpse to potential health issues. if a person's retina appears a year older than their actual age, risk of death from any cause goes up 2% over the next 11

north bay and east bay valleys. this is what it looks like and you can just kind of get that overview of the low clouds filling in the valleys. there's a difference between having a midlevel cloud or having fog on the road. what we care about is fog on the road. that's why they have issued a dense fog advisory for the north bay valleys this is where the issue is. goes to ten. if we switch to the visibility map you see why. santa rosa that's not much better. napa is the same. fairfield has gotten better. livermore is at three ten thes of a mile. it's foggy in the tri valley. gianna has been watching that closely. this has kept the temperatures warm. nobody is in the 30's but four yukia. places like santa rose a. that will feel warm when you step outside. this all melts away by late morning or early afternoon apt the latest. the clouds are thick over the bay. they will clear out in time that you will get breaks of blue sky. we will go in to the low to mid- 60s's for daytime highs. you can see how all this stuff melt a

that's for the north bay mountains. many of us seeing winds gusting to about 50 to 55 miles per hour and in the higher elevations, east bay hills, north bay mountains gusts of 60 to possibly 70 miles per hour. watch for do you knowed trees and be possible with strong winds. now is a good time to secure loose outdoor objects that will likely blow around in our wind as we head through the afternoon and for tonight. currently, looking at calm to light conditions this morning. it's really up in higher elevations that i am watching winds starting to pick up, gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour this morning in the hills and mountains. again for all of us through the day, we'll see those increasing winds by this afternoon. temperature wise, we are in the 40s from concord, oakland, livermore, san jose, low 50s in san francisco, a cold 38 degrees in santa rosa. not as extensive with our fog this morning compared to yesterday but still dealing with patchy fog for parts of the north bay. for today in your forecast, looking at that pat

issues in the north bay. the north bay is impacted by fog. it will not linger too long this morning. winds are picking up, that is the headline for today. it will be a windy day ahead. a wind advisory begins at 7:00 a.m. a high wind warning will begin in the north bay mountains at 7:00 a.m. gusts about 40 miles per hour for most of us, but in the ridge tops we could see up to 70 miles per hour. there is a possibility of trees coming down and isolated power outages. a clear picture compared to yesterday from her east bay hills camera. early morning fog in the north bay. the big story, the winds today. they will make us warmer than yesterday, mid to upper 60's, up to 70 inland today. kumasi: developing this morning, more than 20 million people are under winter weather alerts from texas to the carolinas as snow and ice hits those regions. some officials are more worried about this round of winter weather than the last one. jobina: governors have declared states of emergency in the carolinas and in virginia. here

maybe some upper 30s there in the north bay and around the tri-valley for the morning. eratures tomorrow little bit warmer than we had today. mid-to upper 50s for most the bay, down into san jose. low 50s around napa. over towards fairfield and the tri-valley for the afternoon. storm ranger scanning the skies right now. nothing showing up too close to the bay area. we had some high clouds which made for a nice sunset but the storm that will eventually get us the rain is still kind of getting its act together here offshore. by tomorrow morning, north bay, you will begin to see some of those showers coming on through. by midday, notice san jose throughout may not see a whole lot or the tri-valley. those are two areas where the moisture kind of rains out here on the west slope of the santa cruz mountains, also in the east bay hills. and then dries as it heads to the santa clara valley and tri-valley. you could see most of it is here around the santa cruz mountains and the north bay through 11:00 tomorrow so rain totals, again, should be highest in the north bay. and there i

it does come back during the afternoon monday, north bay. notice the color coding, light to briefly moderate rain at times. most of that rain is going to be north of the golden gate. you can see how a lot of the moisture, best rain chances through tuesday and wednesday, even showers staying to the north until we get to friday. that's probably the best storm that's setting up for next week. it will bring the best snow to the sierra and likely the highest rain totals we'll see next week midday friday. seven-day rainfall totals, this is spread out throughout next week. and the highest totals here will be for areas mainly north of san francisco. unfortunately, we may not get much around san jose or the santa cruz mountains. but for the sierra, we could see another 1 to 2 feet of snow coming up. notice the weather model trend keeping most of the emphasis up here across the north bay and areas north of highway 50. speaking of highway 50 and interstate 80, unlike previous weeks where you had several feet of snow, not too bad. still at least 2 feet o

i think the focus will be over parts of the north bay as well as the east bay over around mount diablotoday. we are already seeing the winds pick up, and the peaks will be later tonight and then it gradually calms down for tomorrow with mild temperatures. taking a look at our highs for today, it's going to be nice out there. keep in mind it's going to be breezy and becoming more windy for parts of the north bay. our temperature in napa reaching 48 degrees. there's a cold front diving around the region. you can see all the snow that is for the interior parts of the rockies and further off towards the east. if you are wondering how our snow is doing in the sierra. 113% of normal is our snowpack. we are still doing pretty good with the snow. we hope to get some rain in here for the early part of february. we're rapping up the rest of the monday with dry conditions and seasonable temperatures. our highs reach in the upper 60s today with gusty winds. low 60s by the beginning of middle to next week. san francisco also looking at temperatures near 60 degrees over the next several days. >>> mi

we see the fog in the north bay as well. over to you. >> yeah, we can see that low visibility in the north bay. but, also, what you can't see are the temperatures and how cold it is this morning. right now we're seeing a lot of these numbers dropping down to the mid-30s and i wouldn't be surprised if a few spots got to freezing this morning. we're feeling that in the south county, but then as we go into the rest of today, spots like santa rosa will go from right near freezing. we're at 33 right now. we'll go to the upper 60s and see sunshine with a milder day, compared to what we're starting with. as we take a look at what's going on around big sur, we've been keeping an eye on what's called the colorado fire. this still burning, but we are getting more containment. looking at the weather conditions in that area, it's now 47 degrees. it's chilly, humidity is coming up and the winds are a lot lighter compared to when this fire first started. hopefully that containment will continue. some of that smoke is and we're going to se

as we go into today we are watching out for on and off for parts of the north bay especially. will be more scattered for the peninsula as well as the east bay. as far as how much rain we are expecting, very light amounts, in fact we may not measure much of anything. some higher rainfall totals in the north bay, so that will be the focus. we are going to see more sierra snow this week, not a big dumping, but we are going to see about half a foot and possibly over a foot of snow for kingvale as we go into the next few days. off and on spotty showers, and temperatures feeling better by the end of the week. we are watching out for more widespread rain in the forecast from friday into early saturday morning. at this point it looks like it clears out for sunday and san francisco will see temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. we will see a high of 58 degrees by wednesday. mike has been keeping an eye on the roads this morning from home. how is it looking for the morning commute? >> my drive was great getting home. we are looking at traffic on the map, and that dominates the roadways.

the north bay mountains are usually the most at risk. thankfully we didn't have any significant issues overnight. if we look at how this plays out over the next few hours, i will play the futurecast over into the overnight hours, and it will really start improving. now that the sun has gone down, we take some of the energy out of the mix, and things do get better. we don't have any more wind warnings. no wind advisories. it will be a whole lot better tonight and tomorrow for your part of the bay and it was today. we had some significant gusts. oakland, 58 miles per hour at the airport, but 60 mile-per- hour wind moving through parts of the east bay hills, and that is where we had some power outages start. i'll be back with the rest of the forecast in just a few minutes. >>> tonight, a 1500 acre inferno closed highway 1 in both directions along the big sur coastline. that fire started about 24 hours ago, expanding to hundreds of acres in a matter of hours. minutes ago, the mercury news reported the fire is reporting burning down at the fa

it's very focused through the north bay. the rest of the bay area is doing okay when it comes to the fog. forecasted highs for today, we are going to get afternoon sun. it's not going to be as cloudy as it was in some spots yesterday, and our daytime highs are going to be a little cooler up to the north bay, but very similar down through the south bay. 62 degrees in san jose, 60 degrees in concord. 58 degrees in oakland, 57 in san francisco, and 59 degrees in napa. your air quality outlook, we're going to remain moderate for the most part. i did see a bump in the north bay to 82. this stays within the frame of moderate between 51 and 100 for the air quality index. we should be okay there as well as the long range outlook, that dry pattern still continues, but heading into tonight and into tomorrow, we are expecting to see some of that wind start to kick up, especially for the higher elevation areas in the mountains. so by sunday, that high pressure continues to dominate. it rolls back in in strength. over the next seven days,

we do have a closure up in the north bay leading into the east bay, though, with police police activityclosure on i-80 westbound at the carquinez bridge in valais home. all lanes are blocked. so the recommendation there is to get off at 6.80 and then drive down the benicia

north bay mountains under the high wind warning. we will see winds really kick up, possibility of downed trees and power outages with the gusty conditions. that will be in effect until tomorrow morning. right now for many of us, the winds are light. not a problem. we are watching winds though in the higher elevations in the mountains gust 30 to 40 miles per hour. as we head through the day, winds will kick up for all of us by this afternoon. showing you a live look at san francisco with mark hopkins hotel camera, we are down to the 30s in santa rosa in the north bay, 40s for concord, oakland, san jose, livermore, low 50s for san francisco. a big difference with our weather, we are not as foggy this morning compared to the last few mornings. some locations still dealing with that dense fog. patchy dense fog near zero in petaluma, a quarter mile in napa and about a half mile in santa rosa, other locations looking good. satellite and radar view, that strong pressure gradient with this low pressure system over great basin, high pressure
