now, the north bay extreme far north bay is going to see the rain for three, four and five hours. y north of santa rosa, the national weather service around the russian river at hopland has put in a flood watch as soon as 2:00. this afternoon, where the river is going to rise above flood stage. but right now it's just light rain here, right. santa rosa, 101 guerneville. and the cold front as it begins to move to the south and east, we'll get the heavier rain here. right now. it's been light to moderate from hayward to 8-80 in fremont. sunol 680 a little bit of moderate rain, but then there's a break here along the peninsula, and you can see the line here where the rain is just kind of not quite made it into the south bay. morgan hill, a little bit of shower activity and then into the mountains. we are looking at snow, winter storm warning through 4:00 on sunday and there's an avalanche warning for the back country once again, a weak snow pack as we have really strong winds and more snow coming with the snowpack underneath. not very stable. so that's why there's a chance for potenti

a flood advisory is still in effect for most of the north bay leading to dangerous roadways and downed trees. >>> a farm worker community in half moon bay marking a year since the deadly mass shooting that claimed seven lives. >>> good evening, i'm andrea nakano. a flood warning remains in effect for most of the north bay right now, and that's expected to continue overnight into monday morning. taking a live look at bay area bridges, drivers have been dealing with wet conditions all day long. and here's a reminder of what can happen on wet roads. one of our photographers was driving to get some rain video when he saw this car hydroplane and smash into a wall on highway 101 nearby the lucky drive exit. you can see the car was completely engulfed in flames. no word on the driver's condition. fire officials on the scene said they responded to a similar crash just down the road on 101 a few minutes earlier. and that crash happened after the heavier rain moved into the north bay. as you can see from this time lapse video from our salesforce camera. let's send it over to meteorologist darren

you can see the storm advancing onshore and moving beyond the north bay into the east bay, down onto the peninsula, and finally by midnight, covering all of the bay area. and it's going to be, of course, a rainy period for morning commuters tomorrow, as the storm will still be with us now, the wind advisory is in effect from 10:00 tonight to 4 a.m. tomorrow. so the heavy downpours will be accompanied by strong wind, and that'll make the morning commute even more difficult. full forecast. a little bit later dion. >> all right. watching that closely spencer. thanks. now all of this rain has people in the north bay bracing for flooding and landslides. at least one home in sonoma county has been yellow tagged after a landslide in that area. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard. joins us live now in santa rosa. and cornell, you spoke with that homeowner there. >> i did dion and they say the landslide was scary and totally unexpected. as you can see, heavy rain now moving into sonoma county and firstrillionesponders are gearing up for what's next. >> anxious, scared, worried. you know,

but already a bit of a wet commute for parts of the north bay. he rest of the bay area will be waiting a while. as we see the rain arriving, the wind will pick up. a look at our hour-by-hour wind gust forecast, at 10:00 we're seeing the winds rushing in from the south, and we could see those winds up to anywhere from 30 to possibly 45 miles per hour. and then it gets even stronger for the coastline into the afternoon, when that rain picks up we could see steady wind gusts that will be with us throughout the evening at 50 miles per hour. so you want to make sure everything around the home is ready for winds like that. we also will have the potential of this downing some trees. the ground is already saturated, and as the next round of rain comes in, it will get heavier for the afternoon into the evening, but for many of us in the south bay, it's going to take a while before it really gets going, and also in the tri-valley. farther to the north, from san francisco to the north bay, that rain will continue for hours and then really pick up later this

and this is when that heavy rain will be advancing into the north bay. spreading all across the bay area. so our high resolution model brings in a few showers in the north bay. but then we get the break in the morning. here's the afternoon. it's already coming back by 1:00. heavier rain staying up to the north till the later hours. this is 430 and you can see some downpours ready to hit the coast and stopping this at nine 10:00 tonight. and you can see some of those oranges and reds, allowing for those high rain rates tonight. so midnight tonight. we're picking up another inch to two inches in the north bay. the highest elevations. but look what happens overnight. an additional half inch from the east bay to the peninsula. so that's when you're going to get the heavier rain for the rest of the bay area. still looking at some snowy conditions for our winter storm warning through early tuesday for the west slopes of the sierra, the ski resorts anywhere from 4 to 10in of snow possible right now, below freezing in the mountains and temperatures was mild today

notice the north bay.one getting rain throughout the 7:00 hour, but you saw the radar earlier that showed rain in the east bay and the peninsula. so the high resolution model picking up on the rain into the middle of the morning hours throughout pretty much all the bay area, but not heavy. this will be light and it'll be more scattered as we get into the two 3:00 hour. that's a bit of a lull before the cold front presses on through. and there it is. you'll notice the darker shades, and then the winds accompany this through the eight, nine, 10:00 hour in the south bay. so here's a look at that. anywhere from half inch to an inch of rain. and then as we get into the south bay, lesser amounts here. so the breezy winds this morning on the hilltops. and then as we get through the afternoon, we'll see the winds pick up not only along the coast. this is 8:00 throughout the east bay, the south bay. and then we'll get some of those heavier downpours. so the combination on that, it's dark out, it's gusty. and those

the time the morning commute begins at 5 a.m, the storm will be winding down a little bit in the north bay still raging for much of the bay area. so again, expect messy conditions for the morning commute, rainfall estimates have been upgraded now to just under an inch in parts of the south bay, over an inch over in hayward in the east bay, inch and a half or more in oakland up in the north bay, about an inch and a half in the wettest locations as well. a wind advisory will be in effect from 10:00 tonight to 4 a.m. tomorrow. uh- winds out of the south at 2520 to 25mph. gusts to 45mph. and this advisory is for the entire coastline, including the santa cruz mountains and the north bay coastal mountain range and a coastal flood advisory in effect until 11:00 tomorrow morning for the bay shoreline and the north bay shoreline and the interior valleys of the north bay and in the sierra winter storm warning in effect until 10:00 tomorrow night. back to the bay area. overnight lows mainly in the low 50s. highs tomorrow, generally up to about 6062 degrees. the accuweather seven day forecast looks li

if we look at the north bay, this is the leading edge, widespread showers coming across the north bayn see the band that has been moving across sonoma, and now down into marin, heading over toward novato, san raphael, you will notice the rain is getting worse, 37 is going to be a little bit of a wet drive for anybody who is out that way. and the showers will come down south across the city and work their way down, the best way to track that is to put it into the future cast. think of this in two chapters, the morning rain which we are just now starting and which will over spread the bay in the next few hours, and it will be with us until about 10:00 in the morning. then we get a break. we are in between now. there's going to be a few stragglers, there's always a chance you could get rain at any point today but there will be a longer time where you are more likely to get a break between 11:00 and about 5:00. this is when the second line comes in, this will have a heavier rain and a stronger wind with it. it already looks impressive here. when we look at the rainfall totals for the nort

and then for the rest of the afternoon, whether you're north bay peninsula, east bexar, south bay, we're all looking at widespread moderate to heavy pockets of rain. the heavy rain really coming in this afternoon into the evening commute and the very heavy us it just at the end of the evening commute, our worst chance of flooding is going to be as the sun goes down tonight, get a pair that with some of our strongest winds of the day, too. so once you get home from work, just started taking a little easier. don't to be doing too much travel in the stormy evening. with those strong winds, a risk of downed power lines, maybe even some power outages. you compound that with the potential of flooded areas on roadways starts to get a little dangerous for some drives around, especially those start countryside areas future cast into tomorrow. pockets of heavy rain interspersed by times of sunshine could actually see some thunderstorm development into your thursday and friday, saturday will be the driest of the forecast before sunday. another push of heavy rain around the corner. you add all of th

here it is seven 8:00, marching through the north bay. :00 into the south bay. so rainfall amounts over an inch in the north bay, about that san francisco over a half inch in oakland. remember, we've got the breezy winds and could see three quarters of an inch anywhere from hayward to fremont and about a quarter of an inch or less with that rain shadow effect in the south bay. so the winds. so they're starting out breezy at the coast, and then they certainly do ramp up as we get through the seven 8:00 hour. remember this is when the cold front pushes through with gusts up to 30 and 40 miles an hour. the higher elevations. and then as we get through the overnight hours, just a few showers and then the winds will calm down. so through 4:00 tomorrow morning, 1 to 2ft of snow. this is above 8000ft. so as we get down to lake level, 1 to 5in at lake level, the ski resorts maybe six inches tahoe city and maybe 17in. that would be nice at donner. so it is a warmer storm, but with the height of the mountains and the trajectory of this rainmaker, we

we'll check with you. >>> as kari was just saying, the north bay is experiencing some of the heaviest rainfall and it's leading to a long night in some neighborhoods. >> "today in the bay"'s ginger conejero saab is on her way to guerneville, one of the heaviest hit areas with the rain. joining us by phone this morning. talk to us about the road conditions that way. how is it looking? >> reporter: good morning, marcus and laura. we are heading north on 101. it hasn't been so bad north 101 here. i drove through san francisco within the last hour or so. the city was not experiencing that much rain at that time. but it was a very different scene overnight, especially in parts of the north bay like the city of guerneville that you just mentioned. residents there have flooding around the area of 5th between mill and sycamore streets. one resident telling us the flooding in her area that happens frequently is compounded by heavier rain. but she thinks there could be something done about it. >> i think if they cleaned out the creek a little bit better from this end down and put a berm up, a g

watch out for those patches of dense fog in the north bay. here, once again, we are seeing the clouds stretching in. we are seeing light showers further to the north, although for most of us we are going to stay dry today. tomorrow is when we start to see the bulk of the storm system arriving, and it will be off and on throughout the weekend. before we get the big rainfall, we want to check in on the reservoirs that are pretty low for the south bay reservoirs. lexington reservoir, not even halfway at capacity. it's a lot higher for marin and east bay mudd, but we will most likely continue to see the water levels going up. there's a chance we could see a atmospheric river, and that enhances the rainfall, and so there could be a potential of an inch and a half to seven inches of rainfall. when we get all of the rain coming down with the gusty winds, there could be issues with power. make sure you are prepared for that in advance. we could also see rivers and streets flooding as well. the timeline of the rain starts to arrive during the afternoon

north bay, central bay, south bay, snow in the sierra levels are about 4500ft. his morning will fluctuate between 4500ft and 6000ft. it's a cold storm dropping in from the north, bringing a good amount of snow, and we'll see a decent amount of rain as well. here's a look at the rainfall amounts expected anywhere from quarter inch to we'll say half inch for our south bay, as well as our central bay. the urban areas then as we get into the north bay, there's an opportunity for an inch. maybe two in some of those isolated areas that tend to accumulate more of the rainfall. and then you get over towards the coastal range and not popping up here on our screen. but could see two inches, maybe three for some of the coastal range, especially farther to the north. the sierra, a foot to two feet of snow. so blue canyon in a little bit more than a foot. and as we know, blue canyon ride about the 5000 foot mark. so those snow levels are going to be low for the futurecast model. let's time it out. we've got the rain out there this morning and then by about noontime 1:00 it do

not as gusty as the coastline or the north bay. now, for the sierra, this is still going to be an active weather pattern, especially tonight into saturday. there will be a avalanche watch that takes effect for the grader tahoe area. remember, the biggest risk comes when we get heavy snow on top of snowpack. that risk will continue with the travel as well as a winter storm warning. it also goes in effect because we are dealing with 80+ to 100 miles per hour for some of those peaks. for the high hero, this does look great. once we get past the initial system on saturday, we get dry and that leads us all the way into monday. so we start up the work week kind of pleasant. then we are monitoring what looks like could be another weaker system making another round of some beneficial rain this time around. >> all right. it sounds good. beneficial rain. i like how she put a spin on that one. this election is a choice between results or just rhetoric. californians deserve a senator who is going to deliver for them every day and not just talk

so that means that these roads are going to start getting slick in the north bay. certainly along 101 where you can see a light shower roll through there in santa rosa. as we zoom out that the rest of the bay pretty quiet right now. but that's going to change as we get to the afternoon. wind is also going to be picking up right now about 16 miles per hour and half moon bay. that southerly flow is going to get a little gusty. so let's track this through and i'll show you get to about 2.30, some of those heavier showers starting to roll in to the north bay by about 4 o'clock. you can see it's very involved and starts to head down towards the peninsula as well. this will be a quick hit. it's going to be a fast mover. so there's 6.30, this is kind of time to right in the middle of our rush hour starts to lighten up a bit as we get into the evening. but a few back end showers coming in in the overnight. so really stay unsettled until we get into tomorrow afternoon. and then we'll be all set now. it's all said and done. we're looking out for between about a half an inch t

i mean, inches upon inches of rain fell on a since friday for the north bay. it was over 5 enches in capital in san anselmo and honestly, mount tam got over 8 inches of it. so we set lot of rainfall out there. a break was needed. and today with those peaks of sunshine that you're seeing in spots like sfo right here, that should help to dry out the ground just a little bit before. but the return of rainfall not far away from us. you can see all that cloud cover sitting to the west. that is this next system right here, which drops in overnight tonight while we're sleeping on into tomorrow. so today is going to be our dry day for sure. partly cloudy skies. chance of early evening. sprinkle briefly pushing through. but really the rainfall moves moves its way in after midnight tonight and on into tomorrow morning, especially look at this orange and yellow, right in the middle of the morning commute for your wednesday. so it is 8 tomorrow morning's commute, maybe being a little bit more difficult for you. then this one was it was obviously super easy to get out ther

moving into the north bay.mentioned this earlier, it looks really impressive on the first alert doppler. a lot of this moisture elevated in the atmosphere, not falling all the way to the ground level. the total rainfall in the north bay has generally been less than a 10th of an inch but eventually there will be more substantial moisture. let's take a look at the future cast more widespread rain making its way and as we head towards the peak of rush hour tomorrow morning, so the timing can be a lot better and the good news is, this isn't going to be the heavy sustained rain that we had sunday night into early monday morning. and it's going to be pretty short-lived. it will get out of here by mid-to-late morning, we don't entirely dry out. still a few radar freckles as we through the rest of the day. so keep the umbrella and rain jacket handy. but it won't be as widespread as it would be out there in the morning. but we will dry out tomorrow night with a mix of clouds and sunshine and some more moisture over the

so average for the north bay. and mid 60s down here in the south bay.what we know so far as far as the rain timeline. 3:00 in the morning rolls around, seeing that light activity for the north bay. mostly cloudy skies as we watch for heavier rainfall to develop in the afternoon. so that wednesday commute would be a little slick, but really it's the overnight hours that we'll watch in the north bay and the santa cruz mountains with those gusty winds and the possibility for some minor flooding. as we go into thursday and friday, some of those showers linger. but, again, the heaviest part will be early on, on wednesday and overnight into thursday morning. those wind speeds right now could warrant a wind advisory from the national weather service as we look at the gusts out of the south around 20 to 30 miles per hour. so just prepare for that, and while we have this beautiful sunshine this weekend and we'll take it into our next rain chance that will come about as we fast forward into next weekend. scattered showers from the system on saturday, but we'll wa

we may see a quick round of light showers moving through the north bay. rrow morning, while it does miss the rest of the bay area, we will have a chance of all of us getting in on some wet weather on saturday, and i know during the saturday afternoon, it's not the best timing but it will move out quickly, and sunday is the day to make plans outside. we are tracking an active weather pattern next week with several storms coming in, and it looks to be beneficial for the sierra, and the bay area will only see maybe about 0.1 of an inch of rainfall. that saturday storm is not big enough to cancel any outdoor plans. if you are going to the sierra, heads up that saturday will be the day with hazardous travel. it does wrap up on sunday, and we are only looking at six to eight inches of snow. there's additional snowfall in next week's forecast that will hopefully help to try and catch us back up to our normal sierra snowpack. we are looking at a chance of showers for early tomorrow morning in the north bay, and other than that it will be mostly sunny, and more wid

so the system started in the north bay and now it is moving east across the bay area. the south bay, as you can see here is getting in downpours at this hour. now. we have a chance of thunderstorms, but i've been seeing that activity staying offshore here. so i did see some lightning strikes out on the ocean. so zooming on in here. we have some flooding concerns after all this rain. so there is a flood advisory in place for parts of the north bay until midnight tonight. and then that's going to downgrade to a flood watch until tomorrow evening. so those usual roads and, you know, ponding and this shallow landslides, which we did see in some rural roads today. so just be careful, especially when you see that standing water. so here's our future cast model here. so can see pretty active at this hour in the santa cruz mountain, san francisco, oakland and the east bay livermore towards brentwood. so let's take you through the overnight hours. midnight still pretty heavy downpours in santa rosa. so everyone is off toray on the being a weekend. 04:00am if you have that early

for the past few hours, the rain has been over the north bay, but now it is starting to advance into san francisco, the peninsula, and into the east bay, where we are seeing pockets of heavier rain moving through concord and approaching brentwood, picking up in vallejo, heading toward fairfield. in the tri-valley, the rain is just getting started, but we'll continue seeing the radar filling in for the rest of the day. looking at the heaviest rain, all these bright colors, this is the intense rainfall we'll see shortly after the main evening commute and into late this evening, we are going to have a very gusty wind as well as heavy rain. then it tapers off to some scattered activity. basically anytime tomorrow you could see some rain coming down. we have the flood watch in effect for the bay area. watching those rivers, creeks, and streams, we could get anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, some of the higher amounts in the north bay. moving ahead, there is only a brief break before the next atmospheric river comes in, and we're expecting that on sunday morning and continuing into n

north bay may it earlier.give you an update on how we're doing with our rainfall totals for the water year. so we've had a little bit of rain here recently, but still it is not what we usually see. we're still lacking about an inch of rainfall for santa rosa, even though so far we've measured over 14 inches of rainfall. oakland has had 5 inches of rain, but that is 3 1/2 inches below what's normal for this date. so you can see these rainfall deficits that we're running, and the good thing is that we do have some more rain on the way. so i think we're going to make up on those numbers pretty soon here, as we're now starting to see the rain coming into coastal sonoma county. we're tracking it with mobile doppler radar. that will move into the north bay later this morning. you can see the rain as it approaches and a lot of it south of the golden gate bridge will be drying up. a lot of our coastal areas do typically see the light rain earlier than the rest of the inland areas. as we take it hour-by-hour, at 2:00 w

one north bay town dealing with some major flooding this afternoon. water going all the way up to the door handles of several homes. kron 4 s charles clifford joins us now live from guerneville with the latest here. how did the russian river do this time? charles? well, good the good news here this afternoon, the rain has let up. the flood water is starting to recede to take a look behind me. see a lot of mud and debris on the ground. that is because early this morning. >> 5 creek nearby flooded and the water was up to many of these the door on their homes. >> following hours of heavy rain last night and early this morning, homes along church street near 5 creek in guerneville saw flood waters up to their door sometimes inside their homes around 02:00am the sonoma county sheriff's office was going door to door telling folks to be prepared to leave if the flooding got any worse. many folks were woken up by this flooding. >> everything was destroyed. that was on the floor and you need the storage boxes and anything that got what we will have washing cle

first for the north bay, starting to spread out for more of the bay area by the afternoon. heavier rain moving in by tuesday evening and the first half of tuesday night. not going to rain for more than about 30-45 minutes, heavily in any particular location, it will be wet tuesday evening and overnight. rain gets out of here as we head passed midnight on tuesday night. drying out. really having a hard time shaking the bulk of the cloud cover heading through wednesday and thursday. a mix of clouds and sunshine at best. how much rain are we talking about? this system, a quarter of an inch to half an inch. there will be a few spots in the rain shadow locations that come up short of quarter of an inch of rain. spots along the higher elevation that pick up more than half an inch of rain. we can handle that. when you add-on the rain chances that are more widespread and heavier this weekend here is the seven-day rainfall outlook, widespread bases, talking an inch and a half to 1 1/2 inches of rain. for the north bay, 3-5 inches of total rain. not going to happen all at once. the m

highs tomorrow, generally in the mid 50s in the rain covered north bay, but. remainder of the bay area will see highs in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. and here is the accuweather seven day forecast. so we get past the level one storm tomorrow. it will be drier and milder on wednesday, although quite a few clouds lingering mostly cloudy but still dry on thursday. then we get a series of wet days coming our way. all level one storms beginning with evening showers on friday. then on saturday, lightrillionain and showers. sunday looks like the day with the greatest possibility of some heavy rainfall, some drenching rains, and yet another rainy day on monday. be prepared. we'll be a chronicle is reporting that the hyde street pier will be torn out sometime this year. four of the ships at the pier will set sail for vallejo for several years. the pier has been a san francisco fixture since the late 1800s. congress has approved a $102 million plan for improvements. the rebuild is expected to take about three years to finish. >> the postal service is getting some

rain for north bay, not much. the line falls apart across the rest of the bay.ly don't get a lot out of this but there is a chance from early morning until about say 11:00 or so in the morning. look at the beads of green. that's the cold front. when that clears south bay, and you will see about noon tomorrow, and we are done with that. we will have blue sky for most of tuesday. but it will rain lightly in the morning. the second batch shows up wednesday. when you thought you were done, we are not. wednesday morning the main batch comes through. even at that it's not a lot. wednesday again, rain. by noon we are seeing it work down to the golden gate. so it shows up later on tuesday but still it is the first half of the day. there is the next cold front clearing the south bay as we get in a early afternoon. once we get to sun set we'll be done and skies will clear. it's not a lot. this is the grand total for both days, like a tenth of an inch of rain. when we do that again for the south bay, same story. tenth of an inch of rain. we will get about a foot and a half

but right now we're concentrating on the north bay. orm tracker places pretty quiet conditions, just a hit and miss. scattered shower around the bay area. this is very light precipitation on the already saturated, rainfall soaked ground temperatures are mild. as christian was alluding to in the 50s. livermore is not reporting for some reason that just went out. they had been checking in all morning long. the winds are under ten miles per hour for the most part, except for oakland international. pick it up winds and you're going to continue to see these winds increase throughout the day today. the gusty winds will be tonight. sfo a flat wind. mineta 15mph. half moon bay nine mile per hour wind with visible down to five miles due to areas of fog. this is the wide picture. this is the approaching system right here. but look at taps into some tropical moisture that goes allg to feel a bit on the muggy side. your total rainfall from friday through monday will be eight inches plus and the wettest locations of the coastal mountain areas. i bro
