north bay highs 80. san rafael 75. napa 84 at santa rosa. the inland east bay will have highs in a narrow range of 82 to 83 degrees, and low 80s in the south bay. and here comes that little weak frontal system late tomorrow night, overnight into saturday morning is when we expect to see some rain, mainly in the north bay. but again, some of it may linger and push southward down to the golden gate and into san francisco. maybe over to the east bay, but it will dry out by afternoon on sunday, giving way to a nice weekend coming our way. dry conditions on sunday and warming up a little bit going into the beginning of next week. amanda. >> all right. spencer. thank you. if you missed seeing the northern lights when they were visible over the bay area in may, you may get another chance. noaa forecasters have issued a rare g4 g4 geomagnetic storm watch, saying a moderate solar storm is expected to reach earth today and tomorrow. noaa says most of the northern half of the country will have a chance at seeing the aurora borealis, including here in no

in parts of the north bay. may also be moving into the east bay during the morning commute, but then once again, it kind of skips in and around the bay area, so not all of us will see that chance. it will be clearing out during the afternoon. if you do get some rain, it's not going to be a lot. a few hundredths of an inch of rain and we could possibly see the most in parts of the north bay. and then moving ahead, it becomes windy, low humidity and warming temperatures going toward the end of the week into the weekend, increasing our fire danger. some of our inland valleys will be in the mid 80s on saturday, while in san francisco we go from upper 60s to mid 70s and windy for the weekend. mike, you're seeing that commute pushing across the san mateo bridge. we're looking at westbound 92, really pushing over to the peninsula. no surprises on that side of the bay. but we do have the traffic feeding in off the nimitz, which continues to build here out of the castro valley. y out of hayward and now pushing down into

today we had the rain in the north bay. the low clouds and fog in san francisco, actually 80s around san jose and livermore. so we did have quite a range of temperatures, as you're about to see in terms of our highs today. now, tomorrow we should actually see the reverse. i think of our cloud trend, more clouds for the first half of the day, and then we hope some clearing and time for flight time for the blue angels. here's a look at today's highs. only mid 60s in santa rosa. but there you go. livermore and san jose in the low 80s right now 67 in dublin, watching the low clouds spill inland across the bay area, including right over downtown san jose where it's 69 degrees. sfo may see some issues for arriving flights with that low cloud cover kind of sticks around through the morning, so call ahead. and yes, it's a little challenging right now across the golden gate bridge, the fog has set up there with drizzle at times. that will take us into tomorrow morning. and look what we had today for rain totals across the north bay,

light rain for you in the north bay. you can already see in that live picture along the bay bridge. we could see the clouds rolling in. so today was really the last day of summer. we've had really nice weather with nice mild temperatures. warm temperatures and sunny skies. but you can even see it on satellite and radar. that cloud cover there. and you may notice to we have a lot going on. i haven't our radar this busy in a while. actually, this is remnants of hurricane christie some clouds in our area and really nice sunset today. and then a closer look at the pacific northwest. we've been keeping an eye on this. trough will be digging in its bringing rain to the to our north. but it was should bring us some rain to the north bay still played in motion for you. this is later on tonight around the 11:00pm hour. you can see some drizzle and the clouds rolling in this around 05:00am. so mainly the north bay maybe may see some raindrops in san francisco some drizzle in fremont and that will break apart by lunchtime. this is nancy. you'll see some scattered clouds and that'll be the case

today, before halloween, we're still expecting 60s in the forecast for us anywhere from the north bay off into the east bay and the santa clara. now tomorrow we're going to see a similar trend. however, late tonight early tomorrow morning start receiving more showers in the forecast for us and that's going to return into the forecast too as we head into friday. let's dive into this real fast and i want to start off with what's happening on our first alert doppler. widespread throughout the bay area this morning, we're waking up to mild conditions and cool temperatures too. but there's some showers already up in the north bay and if this advances there we go all the way into up areas like santa clara valley and clearlake and earlier this morning received light splashes of showers and continues to fall right now too. stretching widespread through the communities. now into the afternoon hours today we'll just most lichee partly cloudy skies in the forecast off in the east bay. and the santa clara valley. let's advance the clock now into the overnight hours and tonight, about 0.1 of rain

look at how chilly it is right now, mainly in the north bay. we're seeing upper 30s as you're heading out. it is 38 degrees in santa rosa. it is 52 in san francisco, and we're seeing a lot of 40s for the inland east bay as well as the south bay. we are going to see clouds moving in out ahead of this system. that will bring in some rain late tonight. so far it's some light rain up around ukiah and we'll see that eventually making it into the rest of the bay area. now, mike, you've been watching some folks working this morning. yeah, just like over in the traffic and weather center. i watched you work, and i then realized i have to get my report together over here. we're looking at the folks who just cleared from their work on the golden gate bridge. i was watching them clear the sensors still show a little bit of slowing as the last of those vehicles have to clear from the north bay to the bridge, a smooth drive throughout much of the rest of the bay. we do have another crash that's near the clayton onramp there. it's not closing the onramp that'

inland areas still possibly reaching up to 108 degrees, and even along the coast and parts of the north bay, some areas could reach up to 95 degrees. so the heat risk tomorrow still is major to extreme, especially for the east bay and the south bay. you'll notice that the extreme areas there in dark purple and then in the north bay and the coast more moderate to light heat risk. so temperatures will be cooling down overnight, only dropping into the 50s and 60s. even some seconds, possibly for the inland areas. then tomorrow afternoon we will be warming up. not quite as hot. there will be only a few areas reaching 100 degrees, but it's still going to be hot. in fact, this weekend it's going to warm up even more. also, some better news though the red flag warning in parts of monterey bay and also monterey county and san benito counties will expire at 8:00 this evening. and i'll let you know when we can get the relief and how much cooler it will be. dan. >> okay, frances, thanks a lot. we'll touch base again shortly. we continue our team coverage now with abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn,

right now is along the coast and in parts of the north bay. the rest of the bay area.ust seeing the clouds starting to move in and our hour by hour outlook shows it passing by and clearing out for the afternoon. so eventually we will see some sunshine, but the chance of showers will continue through about 7 to 8:00 for parts of the north bay and east bay, and then eventually into the tri-valley around 8 to 9:00 and into the south bay in time for the main morning commute and then starting to clear out around noon. sunshine the rest of the day, and then we transition to that chance of some gusty winds and increased fire danger. so i'll have more on that in a few minutes. and mike, you are seeing the build starting to come up at the bay bridge. yeah, pretty much right on schedule. we just had the last three minutes where we've gotten to the edge of the screen all the way, filling up to just past the halfway point. the parking lot behind me at 80 overcrossing is just fine. so that's right on schedule for folks traveling throughout contra costa county and alameda counties a

now, this precipitation will be confined mainly to the north bay, but there's a chance of some spotty showers may reach other parts of the bay area as well. tuesday we'll get a brief sunny break, but then the remainder of the week will be unsettled. a lot cooler, and there's at least a hint of more rain coming our way later next week. so for the overnight hours, look for little pockets of light showers and drizzle moving again, mainly through the north bay. but some of those showers may hit locations south of the golden gate over in the east bay, but again, generally the north bay is the. the region likely to get some measurable rainfall out of this overnight. low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper seconds, so much milder generally than last night was, and if we do get measurable rain, it will amount in most locations to only a couple of hundredths of an inch, but up in ukiah, nearly a quarter of an inch is possible. from this system if it holds up. so for tomorrow, after some morning clouds and possibly sprinkles, afternoon highs will range from about 60 to half moon bay

lower to middle 90s for most of the north bay. temperatures topping out at 80 degrees in san francisco. middle 80s for oakland. middle 70s for the coast. east of the oakland hills, lower 90s and 100s again. middle to upper 90s for the santa clara valley. 95 degrees in san jose. going to put us close to record territory. if falling just a little bit short. 95 is the record high, we will be 96. temperatures will back down, not over the weekend. flirting with record territory on friday and saturday. the game at 1:05, kickoff temperature will be in the upper 80s and the high in santa clara will be at or above 90 degrees in the afternoon. make sure you are prepared for that heat as we wait for relief to arrive. it will happen first along the coast. look at the seven-day forecast. coastal areas, going to be back closer to normal temperatures, then average, tuesday, wednesday, thursday around the bay. probably take one additional day for temperatures to return to average. already, closer by tuesday and wednesday, settling back down to 70

it brought us some record breaking temperatures from the north bay to the east bay to the peninsula. >> sandra fell sash. i heard old record 106 degrees today compared to its old record a decade ago of 94. so huge changes there. oakland museum, 97 degrees broke an old record of 96 that was set back in 1987. also a record in redwood city tied the old record set back in 19 87 of 19, 9 degrees. temperatures right now. how are we doing? well, we're still in the 70's at this late hour in many areas across the bay area. 73 mountain view. 79 hayward, 78 in concord, not getting much of a chance to cool down overnight. 75 for seen lena santa rosa. 74 point raise now. 56 degrees. so we are cooling off closer to the coast. the temperature change compared to 12 24 hours ago is still pretty significant. 10 degrees warmer today right now in santa rosa than it was 10 yesterday and 13 degrees warmer right now than it was 24 hours ago in novato. so you can see big jump in. temperatures still and the heat alerts are still in effect. we still have excessive heat warnings across much of the state. and a

those cool 50s in the north bay. to mid 60s in our inland valleys, and our 24 hour temperature change confirms we're going in the right direction. a couple of degrees to ten degrees cooler. now, yesterday it hit 80 briefly half moon bay and then the numbers began to tumble. but it was a hot one obviously, as you know. and so we're still hot inland with our heat advisory. but cooler breezier wednesday, thursday and friday with extra cloud cover. and then for the weekend we're looking at those showers sometime on saturday. and so as one system heads into the pacific northwest, the next system, you can see that batch of moisture offshore just moves right overhead here. saturday into sunday. and then there's yet another system that is going to flirt with us into next week. so all in all, we'll get settled into a more fall like pattern where temperatures will be in the 70s today, even cooler tomorrow in san francisco and oakland, mid 70s on the peninsula. you were in the upper 90s in redwood city. so those upper 70s will

heading into thursday night with the possibility in some spots about a quarter inch of rain for the north bay and much less for the east bay. so i'll be tracking more about thoe temperatures. mike takes us back to the san mateo report saying it's just normal slowing. it got slower and it's not normal. there is a crash on the other side. so you see, slowing a brake, lights tapping along the flat section. look continuing across the high rise over to the foster city approach. as folks are getting off the bridge. disabled vehicle reportedly off to the shoulder. it's at least a distraction as folks come across the commute direction. the san mateo bridge. some may shift over toward the dumbarton bridge, but nothing dramatic right now. contra costa county shows more slowing on to 24 now through lafayette and now near the caldecott as well. so the build has happened, heading in toward san francisco and the bay bridge in the city tonight, looking ahead, you have a warriors game. so just that note off the 280 extension over here china basin. and then in the city. we hope the sharks continue their trend

i am going to get out of the way so you can see it develop right off of the coast of the north bay. ght there. so, that is classic. going for a wider view on that. that is the first time we have had a beautifully formed cold front with rain sweep across the bay this season. on that kind of note. this is impressive. on the other note, it is not really impressive. not a lot of rain in that. nice to see there is a well organized cold front. let's go at 5:00 a.m. on sunday, highlight of this whole system. the most impressive it is going to get. you can see the north bay is getting its fair share of this. i will put totals on this in a second. we will match it forward. we will watch the cold front, now, as it sweeps across the bay. it will go in, watch the cold front, fall apart as it does so. 5:00 a.m. to about 5:00 p.m. not a lot there. maybe a few stragglers showing up in the afternoon hours. in the morning, just looking at the numbers for the south bay, not much of anything. san francisco, you will get 1/100th or a little more. i think you stand better odds of getting rain in the city

in the north bay.ot a lot to it, but you are going to notice some rain and just to show you how much, let's put some numbers on this. most of the numbers we're looking at here are like zeros. you aren't getting a whole lot. you can measure maybe redwood city comes away with a 0.01-inch of rain. i think san francisco will probably get a 0.01-inch of rain. you might get as much as a 0.1-inch of rain in santa rosa and that's better looking than it was yesterday. the likelihood of this holding together and actually getting here now looks better than it did when we were looking at this yesterday. there's some good news. of course, that's all sunday. this is tomorrow. you still have offshore winds today and tomorrow and as a result, it's going to be relatively dry and when we look where we'll be for daytime highs for tomorrow before we get to sunday's rain, you still get another day where daytime highs are coming in close to 80 degrees for some of our warmer locations. look at the south bay. look at the inla

fact, although it's nice that the coastlines green, you see, we do have moderate air quality in the north bay poor air quality for the east and the south bay. and the concern zone there. in the meantime, although it's cooling down mother nicely at the moment, heat alerts remain in effect. the heat advisory, which was he's been in effect for many days. it was supposed to expire back wednesday. it got extended. a few times is now extended through 11 o'clock on saturday night. and that's a heat advisory for much of the bay area news. even excessive heat warning part of it expires tonight at 11 o'clock. that's for the north bay mountains. but that just turns into a heat advisory. so part of the problem is we'll have little bit of a heat pump come this weekend. so cooler for a day or 2. and then the heat but comes up and we're going to see a little more hot weather and the cumulative effect on the human body. with all that heat day after day as really a problem. not a problem. right now. we get a chance to cool down just a little bit. even some areas are in the 50's. now. look at that. 54 degrees

where their primary going to make enough rate you can measure about 1/10 of an inch coming into the north bay our last frame that was to show up. that is not the right one. this is the remainder of sunday and monday, spotting on again off again showers will continue to move across the bay through the remainder of sunday and into monday. if you look at the leading edge, that comes in as we look at the sunday morning , very early, until 11:00 or noon. not a lot to that we get enough we could get some rain and , from sunday noon on, fewer showers, on again and off again that do not amount to a lot rainfall totals at the top of the newscast, but here is the review, at most about 1/10 of an inch of rain in the north bay. the other side, how things are changing as this cold front comes through. this is a weak cold front. temperatures will come down. daytime highs today, mid-70s in the city, low-it is inland, let's transition to tomorrow instead of today. sunday, have a drop on here for sunday's daytime highs. by monday, they come down more. monday , we will look at those numbers which go down even

and our temperatures in the north bay is now in the low to mid 40s. we're at 43, in santa rosa, 47 in napa, and it's 54 in livermore and san mateo, 55 degrees going into the day will be watching this system dropping in with some light rain, very hit or miss activity. and as you can see, it's not very widespread even as we take it hour by hour. the models show that some of that rain will be drying up. we'll just be left with clouds. and then once this starts to clear out, the winds will pick up later. this evening and it may get quite gusty this evening, with san mateo looking at wind speeds gusting over 30mph. 8:00 this evening we're going to see at least 20 mile per hour winds elsewhere, and eventually starting to relax by early tomorrow morning. so we'll get a look at the cooler temperatures settling in. but mike, now you have a look at the bay bridge. yeah. we just wanted to show folks, as you would expect, the backup is for all lanes except for hov lanes. that's good stuff. if you have three or more traveling through the toll plaza, getting throug

you'll get some light rain in the north bay. that's probably the most impressive time of this whole system. if that's 5:00 a.m. on sunday, i'm going to take it from that point where we're getting light rain in the north bay and play it forward through the early afternoon and into about 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon and things fall apart. there's a chance for rain through the morning and afternoon for the rest of the bay, but it's not a good one. you likely won't get much, if anything, should that come through. look at the rainfall totals. they're really light for everybody, especially south of the peninsula, but in the north bay your totals went up today from where they were yesterday. santa rosa, you now have a chance to get about a 0.1-inch of rain. yesterday it was about half of that. it's kind of nice to see not only is the forecast holding in terms of the ability for this weak cold front to deliver us a little bit of rain, but it's a somewhat higher degree of confidence you'll get enough to measure in the north bay, really
