we're certainly watching the north bay and the coast. big improvement in half moon bay over the past couple of minutes. up to eight miles. just a few minutes ago we were at zero miles visibility. but we're still having issues in the north bay, and that is where we do have the dense fog advisory this morning. this will last until 10 a.m. so taking a look at temperatures right now, we're in the low 40s to the low 50s. good morning saint helena 41. we're at 48 in the city, 44, in san jose. livermore right now, coming in one of the colder spots at 39 degrees. so here's live doppler seven along with satellite. you do see this fast moving piece of energy to our north that's now in nevada. and this is an area of low pressure that as it slides down the great basin, it is going to kick up our winds later on tonight and tomorrow morning. in fact, winds will be very strong across southern california. another red flag warning has been issued for those areas across la. that is because southern california has really yet to see a drop of rain this seaso

like you said earlier, north bay communities will be getting in on the majority of the action. ies will be lucky to get in a tenth of an inch. over the past couple of hours, the storm has definitely arrived. we aren't seeing too much early this morning. the rain showers have arrived. this leading edge of the storm, i don't know how much of this rain is actually reaching the ground. a lot of it is evaporating. it's bringing low hanging clouds, some mist and some drizzle. it is this line though, that is currently sitting up across the north bay. that is likely bringing us measurable rain fall and continue to push south. again, like reed said, 10:00, 11:00 a.m., this is when we are expecting that leading edge of the storm system to arrive. this activity is more just the drizzly, misty action. we are expecting the potential for maybe some gustier winds associated with it. up to 25 to maybe 30 miles an hour. nothing too crazy. and continuing to push across the entirety of the bay area. a line of heavier rain over the oakland hills and down into the santa cruz mountains, but by the ti

we continue to track a wind advisory in the mountains of the north bay. this is already verifying. ning we're seeing winds 50mph, but other areas like parts of the east bay have been pretty windy this morning as well. the next ten days the extended outlook, not a drop of rain is in sight. we'll take a look at those details in one second. here's the frost advisory for the inland east bay parts of the south bay as well. temperatures this morning in these areas. we're finding some neighborhoods in the 30s this morning. here's future weather. we have clear skies right now, a lot of sunshine on the way. we'll have those daytime highs once again getting us into the upper 50s and the mid 60s later on this afternoon, which is pretty close to where we should be this time of the year. winds, though are pretty busy this morning, especially in our hills. we are finding the strongest winds for the next several hours. right around lunchtime the winds really back off and that leads to calmer conditions heading into the afternoon and into the evening. but nonetheless, we do have a wind advisory in

well, north bay, you've already seen a majority of your rainfall. could pick up a hundredth or two of rain from another couple of isolated showers. but again, we're wrapping up on a majority of the moisture this afternoon. and as we step out tomorrow, high pressure building to our south. and it's going to deflect all of the rain, all of the moisture, all of the storms well off to our north. and high pressure will continue to nudge farther and farther north and bring us plenty of sunshine and actually above average temperatures into early next week. do be aware, though, with the departing storm system, we do have a high surf advisory in place starting tonight and continuing throughout the day saturday. so if you do have any beach plans, probably not going to want to actually go in the water. not just because it's chilly, but also because things are going to be churned up a little bit more. we are expecting quite a lot more activity. i don't know what tuesday is on there. excuse me. hopefully this will work now. there we go. friday. yes, today is the

it arrives in the north bay overnight tonight into tomorrow. outside right now, if you're heading outside, where now warming up into the 50's and even the 60's 61 degrees in half moon bay. 51 for sausalito 50 in pittsburgh. so the forecast models show this precipitation heading in. and if you look here, boom, we stop right there. it's overnight before dawn, the rain falls across the north bay and then what happens at dawn and beyond. boom. there it is. again, rain right across the entire bay area stretching up through northern california and stretching into the sierra in the form snowfall. we get some snowflakes, fresh powder for skiers. and we get to add a little bit to our snow pack, which is terrific. and then boom, it's gone. this christmas light rain goes quickly and all of we dry it out and we stay dry for the entire weekend. and then for the work week and then for the next weekend and beyond that, it is dry, a dry forecast. so future rain totals are not impressive. in san francisco, 14, 100's of an inch in the north bay about a half an i

in the north bay.lejo community is coming together to raise money for a hit and run crash victim. this accident happened just a couple of days before christmas and it destroyed the man's wheelchair. kron four's. lindsey ford has the story. >> the room. and to be honest, i sat there for like 10 minutes per eye. nobody came outside. nobody heard it. >> just 5 days before christmas, the unthinkable happened to melvin jones and delay. whoa around 11, 10 at night right outside of his home. he was struck by a car while positioning himself out of his wheelchair into his vehicle. steven mccraw sometimes suffer from depression. it was like a movie set jones he saw in his rear view mirror bright lights approaching closer and closer pushing keep pushing. are going. >> quick quick, quick, quick and they wanted or flawed got to winter wheelchair does flew in the air. did a couple of tumbles land on the ground and it ended up like in the middle of his shattered to pieces in shock after the impact, jones as he braced

and they've got measurable rain in the north bay. look at the last few hours of radar that will come across from here and some light showers. the time stamp on the bottom there will show you what happens in the late morning going into the afternoon, and it did not amount to much. and that is what it looks like with the time lapse from just before sunset showing up from salesforce towerier looking west with the other replay on the six hours of rain. not much, where we could put some numbers on that and a closer look, but it's the winner at 400th of an inch of rain. but it's a had pretty good considering that we did not look like they would get too much out of that today. and so that is this morning's light rain, where there is nothing else to show you if we take a look at what the resolution forecast model would depict right here for the next couple of hours. maybe a few blips here, where you could see the time on the bottom of your screen that got us to midnight, and a drop or two of rain and there won't be anything all that signific

a lot warmer if you're up in the north bay. check this out. we're 10, 11 degrees above where we were just 24 hours ago. but you can see across the board everybody a little bit warmer for day to day and that is reflected of those temperatures. we're starting to see now while we're struggling, struggling to get to 60 degrees yesterday. 65 right now in san jose. 64 in fremont. you can see we are also up in those 60's and santa rosa about 61 degrees. napa. 61 degrees as well. so a few spots running above average. today. storm tracker 4 show you some clouds that are starting to move into the north bay. that is an indication of what is to come. but at least it will not be coming until we are well home tonight. it is going to or affect your morning tomorrow morning. as far as the rain being on the roads live. look throughout. am here. show you just how lovely it is out there. but here's what's going to happen as we get into the evening. those clouds will thicken up. this is about 10:30pm. so again, you get home. no problem tonight. it's the overnight

the cold front is not too terribly intense at this point as they move through the north bay. but you remember that spike as we went down through the bay if they stay it this way in that forecast model. it could be one of those rare rain events where you get more rain out of it in the santa clara valley than what we would see come through the north bay. so we will have more on that as we approach the system. we'll get better on the details. one other thing to discuss, coastline becomes a bit of a concern. by the time we get to saturday and because the other system is developing in the pacific, they're not colored in the surf advisory yet, but they will probably have to on saturday. watch all the systems up here in the pacific. you can see that one circulation right there if we switch that and put that in the middle of it, you can see all the energy coming our way. that swell will get here for friday and saturday. you can see the time up there. we'll probably look at a surf advisory. doesn't look nearly as bad as what happened last monday when they would have one of the estimate

. >>> it was also a soggy friday with our first rain of the new year, a slick drive in the north bay this morning, but the showers started clearing by this afternoon. let's bring in chief meteorologist paul heggen. paul, this may be it for a while it sounds like. >> yeah. the first rain of 2025 won't be followed up by the second rain of 2025 anytime soon. the forecast looks pretty dry for a while. let's look how things played out earlier today. this is the radar replay as we look over the past 12 hours or so as showers made their way into the north bay before the sun came up with the heaviest rain progressing across the bay area right around the peak of rush hour and that, of course, slowed things down for the north bay and around san francisco and oakland. just as fast as it moved in, the steadiest rain moved out just after lunchtime. let's look at how much rain added up. it generally conformed on our expectations with less than 0.1 in san jose, only 0.01 around antioch and brentwood, just over a 0.1 of an inch for danville, just 0.01 in concord, a quarter inch in san francisco and

is actually waning in the north bay. e actually now seeing a little more rain across san francisco and the pencil in the east bay and snow in the sierra nevada. high surf advisory. surf is up. how about 18 to 20 foot waves. 25 foot waves. even concerned about the high waves. strong current rip currents can pull you right out of the water out to the ocean and also concerned about sneaker waves with could you wouldn't be expecting them to be might be walking on the beach in these huge waves could come and you don't want to be there when that happens because that could not end well. future rain totals. well, we're starting to see rainfall waning a little bit. so we still have a little ways to go quarter of an inch in many areas, little bit less in the north bay and in the winter weather advisories in effect for this year. if you're heading up there, wait until tomorrow because it's very tough going through the passes like donner pass an echo past today, high winds and some snow. john, back to thanks so much. cap well in the

so everything also lining up out there throughout the north bay, east bay and south bay. as we move into tomorrow's forecast, we have high pressure that's continuing to keep the storm track just to the north only by about 100 miles. so we are going to get into some rainfall here in northern california. but i'm still calling it dry for us. eventually this will let some rain chances move our way. that will have details on here coming up in a bit, but as we started off for tomorrow morning, i do see the chance here of some patchy areas of fog mixed in with some cloud cover. so be on the lookout for that. and then as we head through the day, we'll continue with the thickest clouds up towards the north bay, but we should get into some sunshine through the peninsula, south bay, and alslsohe east bay as we move through tomorrow morning. not nearly as cold as it's been the past few mornings. we had lots of 30s this morning. tomorrow not so much. 42 here in the south bay tri-valley at 40. and we're going to start it off here in san francisco with 45. and that chance of fog in the n

nearly 40 miles an hour in the north bay, so we've had a good deal of rain in the north bay, but that wind is just working to dry things out for sure. here's a look at our coastal flood advisory until noon. full moon is with us for your monday. and so that high tide 6.81 at 925 this morning. highs today underneath the sunny skies. we're in the low 60s for you on the peninsula. looking at 62 today in concord with low 60s in oakland. it was 71 yesterday in oakland. the accuweather seven day forecast. we've got the winds this morning and the breezy start in parts of the bay for again for monday. and by tuesday little change. the winds will ease up and we'll get back to an onshore gradient. but you know not unusual to see this sort of dry spell that we're getting right now. but the winds always exacerbate it. and by the end of the week we could see better conditions, but still no rain in sight. >> okay. and of course in southern california and really concerning to see that extended period of those intense winds to wednesday. >> you said until wednesday. and then by the end of the week the

we're watching in the bay area tonight across some of the north bay hills. as you're about to see, gusts tonight could be above 50mph. we're seeing that right now close to mount saint helena, 49 degrees in san jose. not much wind. eventually, we'll see lows dropping closer to 40 around san jose. and it's already 40 degrees in dublin. this is one of the locations over the next few nights and mornings, could be waking up to some patchy frost and temperatures in the 30s. 48 degrees in san rafael. not much wind there or in san francisco as you can see. if the mirror like reflection off the bay pretty view, 51 degrees, fog and cloud fre for now. and look how chilly temperatures have dropped. napa and danville into the 30s. we've had the dry offshore wind last couple of days. again, it's the moisture and the clouds that are in the air at night, which kind of act like a blanket. they kindf keep the temperatures up. you take that away. now we cool off rather quickly, but not as cold where the winds are ongoing. winds out of the northeast at 33mph at mount saint hele

it's also been in the north bay. look at the bigger picture. shows that we don't have any wet weather, at least here in the bay area. there is a storm system offshore that's going to go up and around the bay area, but we alrlready hav one that's dipping farther to the south, and it's moving just over the sierra and points to the east with some rain and snow. we're getting some of those bigger winds picking up that will create some higher waves near the coastline. and even though right now we're seeing some of the buoys measuring the waves at about 7 to 8ft, there will be a beach hazard statement going up starting late tonight into tomorrow, as the breakers could build anywhere from 15 to 20ft, along with the risk of some rip currents and sneaker waves. watch out for that if you're going to be along the coast today. but other than that, we're looking at a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures close to 60 degrees, and it will be a little bit warmer tomorrow. in fact, well above what's normal for this time of year. we should be in the upper 50s. in s

the rain returns to the north bay tonight. for the rest of the bay area it's for the first half of friday. we start to clear out by tomorrow afternoon, partly cloudy skies this weekend, staying dry through the weekend into next week with high temperatures starting to warm up. the longer stretch of dry weather will be accompanied by high temperatures running 5 to 10 degrees above average. let's look at futurecast and look at the labels so you don't lose your bearings. we'll start the radar simulation midnight to 4:00 tomorrow morning and the first showers hit the north bay before the sun comes up tomorrow morning, but well after midnight. the rain will continue to spread out as we approach the peak of rush hour friday. even though it's still lighter than usual traffic with the holiday week, these intermittent showers will slow down traffic. you'll have to splash through puddles, so a little extra time on your way to work is not a bad idea tomorrow. the rain sticks around the first half of the day tomorrow, widespread showers sti

so here are the areas under the wind advisory the north bay mountains, diablo range, east bay hills, santa cruz mountains. here's the timeline on the peak wind gusts after midnight tonight, 6 a.m. tomorrow. those areas in red and purple indicating wind gusts on the higher hills there of the north bay and the inland east bay above 45mph. mostly a saturday event. then, as we head into sunday, the wind speeds start to back off as we wrap up the weekend. so the wind advisory starts things off on saturday, mostly 40s around noon we got sunny skies, dry conditions, those offshore breezes probably running for the chapstick. at times it's really dry as you get the humidity crashing down below 25% across those inland valleys. temperature wise though, pretty pleasant outside with numbers staying in the low to mid 60s this weekend. now keep in mind this is normally one of the wettest times of the year for the north bay. we usually average a quarter inch of rain per day. instead, we've got this blocking ridge of high pressure corresponding to the fire danger to the south, and the reason why ther

low relative humidity expected into the afternoon today, widespread throughout the north bay and eastthe winds continue to push offshore into the overnight hours tonight. the good news is the winds died down into the forecast tomorrow. leaving us with mild conditions to wrap up the week. something that southern california and us in the bay have in common, the national weather service and the prediction center are showing drier than normal conditions as we wrap up this weekend head into this weekend. what does that mean? there is no chance of rain storms to come into give us any relief in sight when it comes to that humidity. really what we're gearing up for is just gusty conditions today and tomorrow, with lighter winds as we wrap up this week , dry skies each day as we head into this weekend, which is good for our friends who want to head up to tahoe or stay locally and to outdoor activities. but we continue to monitor the fire weather conditions were friends in southern california because they are experiencing similar conditions when it comes to the drier than normal conditions as w
