we talked about that fire weather watch that will be in effect for the north bay hills.e enter tomorrow and then through the day on thursday through thursday pm it's a low grade one. it's definitely something to think about. but let's look at the wind model. i think we did this or we did this earlier 11 or 10, but. so look at at one o'clock wednesday morning. you see that yellow contour up north of fairfield. that's where the winds coming from everything offshore, the coastal stuff in the water that's just onshore breeze. that's not such the issue the issue is going to be these offshore winds and you see somewhere around eight o'clock five o'clock six o'clock wednesday morning is when it peaks. and then it doesn't right. the other contrast. so it's the model goes head. it's just almost a non event, which is fine. that's what we want to see is almost a non event. so anyway, there was a fire weather watch could turn to red flag warning based on that. i don't know if it will. um but either way, it's worth paying attention to because we're a couple years deep into a drought

that means hot, dry, windy weather, especially in the north bay hills in the east bay hills as well as the valleys, creating some dangerous wildfire conditions, fire departments, especially those in those areas are on high alert. the red flag warning went into effect last night at 11 and is due to expire in just a few hours at eight o'clock tonight. now those red flag conditions, prompting pg and e to warn of possible power shutoffs. to thousands of customers in 10 counties, including parts of napa and solano counties. now those shutoffs began at about five o'clock this morning, but they affected far less than expected just a few 100 in napa and solano. counties had their power cut. pg and e says it will begin restoring power once the winds die down. all right, let's get an update now on the current conditions with meteorologist kyla grogan, kyla hey there, heather. and so the good news is the wind has started kind of ramping down. the bad news is this when we started this event, we started coming into it with a little bit of moisture in the air from some of the rain that passed throug

the north bay hills. 99% of us won't notice any wind at all the higher elevations above 1000 ft in the north bay hills will see some wind perhaps up to 25 or 35 miles an hour that's on the top of mount st helena, or top of diablo, perhaps on the east bay. so what? i'll show you the model show we're talking about here, so the plan then is for the winds to do what they always do. this is not unusual. so when you hear red flag warnings. we're getting red flag warnings easily now because of the drought, two years of drought to dryness haven't seen rain in a while, but this is pretty much the way it's going to go tonight. i want to show you the wind based on the colors representing the strongest winds. it contours if you will. and so you can see as we go into tonight, look five miles an hour in oakland, calistoga 79 miles an hour 10 miles an hour in calistoga and then somewhere around five in the morning, it peaks. now where the contours there's something out there in between concord, fairfield in calistoga in the central valley, and at higher elevations up around monken octa, you're going

this red flag warning goes until eight pm it's for the north bay hills and the mountains. it's also forced a lot of county and also east bay hills and our interior valleys in the east bay two and expecting winds gusting upwards of 30 mph, but more importantly, that relative humidity has been dropping and we've been getting drier. now. here's the upside of this right. high pressure is helping to drive this and it's also giving us incredible. blue skies as we look across the bay. it is wall to wall sunshine today and we're warming up 76 degrees right now in san francisco. we're already in the low eighties up in the north bay also out in the east bay 84 conquered right now 73 in oakland about 83 in palo alto. so it's going to be pretty nice day temperature wise, and in fact, we're warmer pretty much across the board with the exception of napa, which is running even. we're about nine degrees warmer right now at sfo 10 in concord about 11 degrees warmer in santa rosa. so here's a look at storm tracker to it is just blue skies as far as the eye can see, it's not just us. it's a g

those areas of biggest concern include the interior north bay hills and mountains, especially throughout napa county where fire fuels are their driest. this is somewhat less risk in the dow below range in the centre mountains. chief meteorologist brooks garner here. he's watching these winds how how strong are they expected to be. yeah. not a huge wins tonight but still a strong enough things are so dry out there now and then too probably dropping down the teen. so. >> maybe gusting as high as 35 miles per hour overnight tonight across the mountain tops. so something to watch out for not extreme weather wind event. but still windy enough. should a fire gets started. it could move quickly over those mountains and looking out there right now. you've got those nice clear skies. we've had those offshore winds and very nice day tracking some of those winds in the north bay. you see those kicking a size 20 plus miles an hour. some stardust likely to develop as we head through the night tonight as the pressure grading going to kind of tighten up across the mountain tops. so red flag warnings go

vegetation, if a fire starts to feel itself, a new record levels, especially as we look into the north bay hills. temperatures in the short term are so warm overnight, but maybe a degree or two cooler as we head into the early hours of thursday morning. upper 50s, low to mid 60s. high temperatures tomorrow near are slightly below average around the bay, but still a few degrees above average further inland, but not as far above average. the heat is beginning to back off. low to mid 60s along the coast. upper 70s and low 80s around the peninsula, with mid to upper 80s and a few low 90s as you had further inland in the santa clara valley. around 85 degrees in san jose. only a few degrees above normal. 90 degrees for most of the tri- valley, an improvement of 100 degree temperatures today. mid-90s for the hotspots further inland in the east bay, with upper succeeds in low to mid 70s around the bay, and the north bay back from the mid-90s today into the low to mid 80s for high temperatures this afternoon. still a bit warmer farther to the north, into the 90s for inland mendocino county and lake count

diablo and the north bay hills which may get a test of unhealthy for sensitive groups air quality. as the breeze picks up, a little bit of improvement in the air quality around the coast and inner bay. the long-range view as we get into saturday shows with the active fires, for the bay area, it's mostly these fires in northwestern california and the smoke coming down the coast that gets brought in by the sea breeze. that's a problem. we really want our skies to clear. you can't have that smoke loading up off to the west offshore because that sweeps back in with the sea breeze. obviously worse conditions will be ongoing for the holiday weekend around lake tahoe and the sierra. so feeling more like fall. we've got mid-40s for lows now in the north bay. 46 degrees. 56 san jose. 54 san francisco. 67 for the afternoon in san francisco. near 80 in san jose. valleys tomorrow, upper 80s to near 90 degrees. speaking of san francisco, tomorrow night, dodgers/giants on nbc bay area. first pitch, 65 degrees. likely to trend warmer with those games. here's why. high pressure starting to build it

north bay due to dusty dangerous fire conditions. good afternoon. i am len kiese. a red flag warning is in effect for east bay hills and valleys and north bay mountains. pge says that's forcing them to become public safety power shut offs in napa and solano. justin andrews is live in napa. people have been getting ready for this all morning. >> reporter: they have. things are still okay right here. people still have power but we know that's not the case for other parts of the bay including in solano county. take a look at the outage map we have been looking at. in the last 15 minutes we have noticed more shut offs in vacaville and fairfield areas. you should see those in pink on your screen. it's thanks to dry, gusty conditions that could bring heightened fire risks. pge says shut off prevented fire lines from igniting fires. more than 2,000 customers were notified of the possible shut downs over the weekend. we talked to richard kennedy and he is one of them that got the notification. he lives in napa. take a listen to how he says he is sort of preparing. >> it's difficult. usually we wouldn't mind it. but my wife

we will be under fire-weather watches for the north and east bay hills as north offshore winds pick up. that is going to dry out our air and you are about to see temperatures are really going to warm up so in terms of drying out the air, look at the change from sunday into monday afternoon. humidity numbers come crashing down to single digits in a few areas and our highs will jump into the 80s and low 90s monday to mid-90s inland by tuesday. almost 20 to 30 degrees warmer than the temperatures we saw today with near 80s possible in san francisco and oakland. now, once those north winds set up, one other thing we will have to watch. could be a little more smoke coming down out of the north so this will be a bit of an air-quality story as we head into monday tuesday and unfortunately fire danger even he though we are tracking drizzle tonight, big difference coming our way by tomorrow night into tuesday. san francisco temperatures starting to climb up. warmest days of the week will be monday and tuesday. again, tuesday could be near 80 in downtown san francisco. and look at those valley t
