north bay due to dusty dangerous fire conditions. good afternoon. i am len kiese. a red flag warning is in effect for east bay hills and valleys and north bay mountains. pge says that's forcing them to become public safety power shut offs in napa and solano. justin andrews is live in napa. people have been getting ready for this all morning. >> reporter: they have. things are still okay right here. people still have power but we know that's not the case for other parts of the bay including in solano county. take a look at the outage map we have been looking at. in the last 15 minutes we have noticed more shut offs in vacaville and fairfield areas. you should see those in pink on your screen. it's thanks to dry, gusty conditions that could bring heightened fire risks. pge says shut off prevented fire lines from igniting fires. more than 2,000 customers were notified of the possible shut downs over the weekend. we talked to richard kennedy and he is one of them that got the notification. he lives in napa. take a listen to how he says he is sort of preparing. >> it's difficult. usually we wouldn't mind it. but my wife is 82 and she's very sick. when it g

so it is a 12 hour window and not for the entire bay area and just for north bay elevations over 1000 feet so the north bay mountains especially along the border between napa and sonoma county and further in the napa county and this wind gusts will be offshore and dry up to 35 miles per hour and humidity could drop but those things won't happen at exactly the same time which is why this is a borderline red flag warning and we will look at the fire weather tracker and each one of these is a different site that reports the current weather conditions and they turn red when they are in red flag conditions and we have an orange that on the map here where we were just looking and otherwise just a few locations that are starting to show some gustier wind and lower humidity levels as well. you can see the fire danger index to track the threat through the rest of the night and through the first half of the day tomorrow in the full forecast. >>> on the covid front, a new milestone tonight, and this is great news. california's positivity rate is now down to just 2 1/2% and exactly a month ago the positivity rate was up over 4%

the greatest concerns are in the interior north bay mountains of napa county on 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us with what to expect out there. lawrence. evan watching some of those winds now picking up, especially over the mountain tops and look at the red flag warnings. a 1000 feet on up. so. >> that's where we're looking at the greatest fire danger. so overnight tonight, those winds starting to ramp up. of course, the skies very clear out there right now. that's the way it's going to stay all night long as that ridge of high pressure dominating our weather and those offshore winds keeping it a threat of fog away. so clear skies out there now and then the winds, yeah, they're going to be kicking up so. sustained 10 to 20, maybe 25 miles per hour, maybe gusting as high as 35. so not an extreme event. we're seeing 60 to 70 mile an hour gust, but certainly strong enough that if you get a fire started these kind of conditions. it can spread rapidly just so dry out there in the current drought. so we're watching over the mountain tops in the north bay that will continue unt

we have this red flag warning in effect for these north bay mountains. these areas will have high wind gusts until about 11:00 this morning and then the winds will be calming down. a spark in the grass and very dry vegetation could spark a fire very quickly as our relative humidity levels are very low. we take another look at this view in san francisco. i'm noticing that the fog, once again, is all gone and we're going to start out with a clear sky for today. usually we start to see those temperatures really heating up, but we have a westerly wind that's going to keep it fairly mild for today. reaching 83 in milpitas. we'll see some low 90s for concord and antioch but mostly upper 80s from martinez down to pleasanton. oakland reaching the upper 70s. it will cool down our temperatures. as we check out antioch we're in the upper 80s and low 90s, mid 90s for the weekend. take a look at the cooldown in the extended forecast. next weekend is going to be so much cooler. it may be about 20 degrees cooler compared to this upcoming weekend. so one more weekend of

tracking offshore winds and dry conditions, we have been watching winds ease especially across north bay mountains, no longer under a red flag warning. that was canceled earlier this morning. as we head to friday and in r wewith he uswell see temperatures soaring by the end of the week. very dry air in place, that's why we are heating up for sure looking at relative humidity values dropping as we head through the afternoon down to the teens for locations inland. daytime highs, mid 60s along the coast. we are talking highs in the upper 70s around the bay, low 80s for peninsula, highs inland mid 80s to mid 90s. seven-day forecast, san francisco, oakland, san jose, you see temperatures will be warming up as we look to the next several days. 70s friday and into the weekend around the bay and even next monday and into the mid 80s for san jose over the next days through the weekend and early next week. then the cool down by the middle of next week. inland east bay 90s through the weekend, next monday upper 80s for the north bay for the weekend and mid 60s for the next seven days along the coast. we will

red flag warning until monday night, the red flag warning obviously for the bay area's the north bay mountains, east bay hills, but the really the highest priority or highest threat for the national weather service standpoint, looking at it. west does that napa sonoma county line for our area, specifically down to mount veeder. a few days of light showers across sonoma counties, lower elevations barely made a dent in the surrounding hills, which struggled to get even 1/10 of an inch of rain this past week. we had a lot of people that were very relieved that we had finally received some significant wedding rains. this is obviously. our fear and concern is that that was quickly replaced with high temperature. low humidity is in gusty winds that just drives out. a lot of that kind of progress received a really short period of time sunday evening. sonoma county was taken off of pg and e s list of california counties were planned power shutoffs were likely now 1200 customers in napa county and 800 in solano county are expected to lose power during pg and e s. p s p s event starting at five o'clock
