this is for the north bay mountains. we will see wind gusts of 35 to 40 miles per hour and humidity levels dropping down to the 20 to 30% range. while those are not critical fire weather conditions, it is still enough considering the dryness of the fire fuels. so that is the last thing that we need with so much smoke already in the atmosphere. we will watch that very carefully and hopefully we get through 5:00 tomorrow without anything getting going. >>> you know that sudden blanket of smoke caught some people in the north bay by surprise, but they told andrea nakano that made them realize how lucky we have been this fire season. >> reporter: susanna and her daughter finally decided to get some outdoor time wednesday night. the smoke drifted in on tuesday and forced her to cancel some outdoor plans. >> i did not expect the smoke to becoming and i was planning on taking her to the park. i had to find some more indoor activities. >> reporter: the smoke was visible all over marin county , susanna said, as she felt the impac

north bay. that's the interior mountains in the north bay and their quality to improve this weekend. i know that's of minute from now, right? it's going to take a little time, but we do have a slight rain chance next week that i think could help the fire picture altogether. so let's talk about the surface smoke forecast. you'll see how this is dragging the smoke down. and unfortunately it is continuing and not really giving up as we go into the next 24 hours or so. but the air sorry, we're having a little bit of a issue here with graphics. going to step over here. see if i can get them. get going. air quality is going to be tomorrow again under that unhealthy category for sensitive groups all throughout the bay area. this is a live look at. you can barely see anything. now that is normally where we see the golden gate bridge. what we can see nothing. afraid the computer is not cooperating, folks. so i'm going to go ahead and send us right back to ms justine, because we are having a little bit of a technical difficulty, as you can see. but tonight we are going to be under that red fla

mountains. we think over the north bay, napa, calistoga and st. helena, reports about red flag fire warning, again in the north bay mountains. by friday and saturday a second system, this will move in, help to clear this out and eventually get some improved air quality by saturday the way things look. so, again, more on that rain here in a little bit. i want to take it into the air quality forecast. we'll stay unhealthy for most of the bay area. i do think that could dip into the moderate range by friday night into saturday's forecast. so as we head through tomorrow morning we'll start it off with the 50s and smoggy skies. it feels strange as you wake up tomorrow morning down to 57 in san francisco. 56 in the east bay. temperatures tomorrow thankfully we don't have to deal with the heat. so many smoke events where it's 90 to 100, 100-plus degrees. at least on the temperature front here it will be comfortable. and, again, some mountain winds of 30 miles an hour, maybe higher through the north bay mountains. i want to move it into the wind forecast.

we are also tracking the potential for elevated fire threat in the north bay mountains. that is tomorrow night into early thursday morning. we start the map with our fire danger index on a scale of zero to 10 . you can see these highlighted areas in the north bay mountains. you go up in elevation and this is where you see the greater wildfire threat. this is something we have to monitor but is not a critical situation. this is the view from mount diablo right now. we got busy with the air quality stuff but the air quality is what everybody is focused on. the fog will mix with the smoke and push its way inland as we head through tonight. it is reminiscent of a few years ago when the smoke and fog got jumbled together. the fog should shoot back towards the coast and hopefully the onshore breeze will latch onto cooler air in the pacific and send it into the bay area by tomorrow afternoon. temperatures drop down to the 50s pretty much across the board and continue to run a little bit below normal inland. temperatures have changed a lot. there is a chance of showers in the for

we also have to watch for an elevated fire threat sending northerly winds into the north bay mountains tomorrow night through early thursday, so we have the fire weather watch from 11:00 p.m. through 11:00 a.m. on friday. let's track these winds which will only be gusty in the higher elevations. the onshore breeze we with us, hopefully improving our air quality and the fire watch goes into effect at 11:00 tomorrow. the strongest winds will be in the communities of the north bay. at night when the humidity levels tend to be higher, it is enough to boost that fire threat. anything that gets going could spread rapidly as we head through wednesday night and early thursday morning. further down the line there is a chance of showers. there is all sorts of stuff going on in this forecast. it is a 30 to 40% chance, but it is the first decent chance of a few light showers so far in autumn which is officially here yet. so far we are seeing the smoky haze mixed with fog as we look out from the mark hopkins hotel. the fog will spread out by early tomorrow morning and will back up towards the coast

you can see it has dropped for the north bay mountains. but if you head up into parts of lake county, it is certainly still there until 5 o'clock where they still have a little bit of wind up in the hills. and, of course, relative humidity levels have dropped as well. so right now we're doing pretty well on our wind. you can see the highs number there on the map about 40 miles per hour in napa. this is still very dry, though. check out sonoma, just 24% humidity. napa. 29. and even as we head to the east bay in the south bay, you see the 20's as well. so that's just an indication that we need to make sure we're still being careful. taking a look at recovery tonight is want to point out the humidity levels continue to drop as we get into tomorrow. so, you know, it's that time of year we have to make sure we're being careful. but we do have the hazy skies out there with us. i want to talk really quickly about our chance of rain coming next week. you can see this will be a game changer for those in the extreme northern california area. as we d

it does include the interior north bay mountains that you see here. so if you are looking at the map, you're talking about areas east of santa rosa, east of that 101. and also if you're over napa, it is your mountain areas as well. now this kicks in tonight at 11 o'clock and goes through tomorrow at 05:00pm. we're expecting wind sustained up in the mountains 10 to 20 miles per hour, gusting to 35 humidity levels dropping to between between about 2035%. so obviously we've got a lot of dry brush out there. and we also have a, you know, quite a bit of vegetation. that group we had such a wet summer. but here's wet spring, rather. here's what's going on with the way the sets up. we get a little offshore wind. we get high pressure, low pressure interacting and that's what's going to happen as we get into tonight. and that's what kicks up the danger now. right now, you can see when not bad down at the surface with a little bit of a delta breeze there about 20 miles per hour. but it's really up elevation in those mountains where we'll start to see that wind

and that does include those of you in the north bay, the interior north bay mountains are going to be kicking into that red flag morning at 11 o'clock tonight. so we're going to see the winds pick up between about 10 to 20 miles per hour and then gusting up to about 35 and the humidity levels are going to start dropping, particularly as we get into tomorrow. you can see those building, you know that 20% or less. so what's going on here? we get a little off shore when we get high pressure off the coast, low pressure in the interior. that drives a little bit of wind offshore. so it's not an extreme event, but it's enough to kick off that red flag warning, meaning fire danger. and we've got to be very careful over the next 24 hours now, right now, you can see a little bit of a delta breeze fairfield right now at 21 miles per hour with the wind. we're concerned about going up in elevation in the north bay. and this is the other concern you can see right now, humidity levels, not bad as we get into tonight, we get the fog moving in. they get a little better but we get into tomorrow. and he

saw the red flag warning for the north bay mountains expire.t means that our fire danger is starting to ramp down as we get into tonight. and as i mentioned, that air quality will start improving as we get towards the weekend. and next week we've got a chance of rain. so let's start with that red flag warning just to show you where it is and where it is. and so it is still a good portion of northern california. but as we zoom in, you have to head up to spots like clear lake port in order to see where it is still it in in play until 5 o'clock with a looking that gusty wind and that low humidity. now, having said that, it is fire season. we always want to be careful, but i'm happy to see that. that has dropped a little early today for us in the north bay. wind is relatively calm right now. you can see highest number about 13 miles per hour. humidity. however, this is a little bit of a sticking point because notice yacht bill looking at about 26% humidity right now. so relatively dry livermore also at 25% now and i take this into future humidity.

. >> at 11 o'clock tonight for the interior north bay mountains. that warning means that those areas are facing more critical fire weather conditions. our kron four's gayle ong is in the north bay right now. she said checking to see how crews are preparing and she'll have more for us. coming up in the next half hour. oakland city council has moved ahead with the public safety initiatives and the restoration of >> crime prevention funds. this kron four's dan kerman reports. it is the latest step in their battle against rising crime. late tuesday night, the oakland city council passed a multifaceted public safety resolution. they hope will curb the rising crime in that city. people are getting hurt. people are getting beat up shot at that's happening all over the place and that's motivation not to take these actions. the resolution directs the city administrator to increase recruitment and retention of 9-1-1, dispatchers. >> create an additional police academy class asked the fbi to expand the number investigators working with opd as caltrans to work

we also have to watch for the moderate spread through the north bay mountains which will escalate tomorrow night. 11:00 p.m. is when the air quality advisory goes into effect. the onshore breeze will pivot and turn into northerly wind, but really just for the north bay. elsewhere we don't have to deal with gusty offshore winds. you see the communities don't have any really strong wind gusts. it is in the hills above these communities where we have 30 to 40 mile per hour gusts combined with humidity levels. further down the line we actually have our first rain chance of ottoman the forecast for the first few days. it will be monday night into tuesday of next week. there is a chance for shower activity as we head to the weekend and into early next week. right now the fog is mixed with the wildfire smoke. that is a good combination of temperatures. upper 50s and low 60s. there is a combination of fog and wildfire smoke and the combination like we had a few years ago makes the fog stubborn to burn off so it will take a while for it to dissipate. you should see better visibility as we head towa

you can see and some of the north bay mountain tops some very gusty winds. start to see some red, some purple. yeah, likely to see some gusts over 30 miles an hour there out at bridge right now. you can see things kind of calm out there. it's hazy out there. so not much mixing in that smoke. so that's going to be sticking around throughout the night tonight. tomorrow morning, you wake up very hazy early on. and then even the afternoon we're going to see a break in the sunshine is going to poke through. but still hazy out there and then looks like as we get in the next couple days, temperatures are going to cool off least into thursday and friday numbers tomorrow. not going to be battle, though. it's going to be hazy, 70's around much of the bay area, the interior valleys and also inside the bay 50's 60's along the coastline over the next couple days. of course, we're coming to the end of summer fall beginning officially on friday, right about noon time and looks like the weather. not bad, although it's going to be breezy on thursday. looks like a few more cl

. >> happening right now, a red flag warning is in effect for the interior north bay mountains because of elevated fire. danger. it will be in place through 5 o'clock tomorrow night. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is in the weather center to explain how weather conditions are factoring in lartz jagr and this time of year, you just kind of hold your breath until we get that first significant rain of the season. it's our fire season and we're seeing those offshore winds now just beginning to develop. so red flag warnings are going up across much of the north bay really 1000 feet and above to 2000 or so on. we're going to see some of those gusty winds overnight tonight sustained probably 10 to 20 miles an hour, but we could see some gusts 35, maybe 45 miles per hour across some of the higher peaks that combined with all that brush that is out there from significant rain season and the humidity going low tonight down to 25, maybe 30%. so getting dry out there. not bone dry, but drying up. should a fire got started? that will be a problem. a future wind gust showing you some of those w

of course, we have that northerly wind gusting across the north bay mountains. and that giving us a little worried little concern about fire danger. but the fog the ever trying to see some patchy fog reform. it will re-establish itself overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. that area of low pressure that really kicked up the winds today that is going to move eastward week ridge of high pressure going to try to develop. but we've got what's called a zonal flow uses, come from west to east of what we call a zonal flow that developing. that's going help to clear out your skies here the next couple days. so we'll be able to breathe easier. i think as we head in toward the weekend as we head throughout the night tonight, you'll notice low clouds fog begin to re-establish itself and well because the push on shore by tomorrow morning, of course, that help to freshen up our skies as well. and then we'll see that break up to the day. so, yeah, we've got kind of a nice pattern, kind of settling in here. i think temperature wise. i think number's going to be comfortable,

north and the east bay. parts of the hills and the peninsula. and then we go into the high to very high category for parts of the north bay mountains. so that's why there is a concern on thursday morning of that fire danger, wednesday night into thursday morning, golden gate bridge camera. hard to make out whether it's smoke or low clouds, but it's certainly a combination, an smoky and hazy skies tonight and tomorrow, gusty in the hills and higher fire danger. wednesday night into thursday, autumn arrives on friday at 1150 at night. and there's no real sign of heat in the forecast as we go hour by hour tomorrow morning, we will see some areas of low clouds and then the winds will pick up and the clouds will clear away. so we will be in for a sunny wednesday. but those temperatures still a little behind where they should be for this time of year, mid 50s to low 60s out the door tomorrow morning. do expect the smoky, hazy conditions to stick around tomorrow afternoon as well. low 80s inland, mid 60s coast even though the sun will be out, it's going to be very hazy with the visibility poor at times. accuweather seven day forecast those
