for the north bay mountains. the east bay hills, not one of the strongest winds we've seen under a red flag warning, but under the hot conditions, northerly winds could gust as high as 25mph. it's the humidity as well that will be bone dry in these areas down to about 10. so looking at the winds first we'll go at 4 p.m. we have a nice onshore flow, but watch what happens at night. we'll see that wind direction. it will change overnight. we have that offshore wind developing. you can clearly see it in parts of the north bay coming out of the sacramento valley. and those winds again could could gust up to 25mph, dragging in that dry humidity and also ushering in that increased risk of fire danger. and we'll repeat that again tuesday night into wednesday morning. it's all about very hot temperatures. most of us under an excessive heat warning or a heat advisory, an excessive heat warning in the pink that is the hottest temperatures. we will have this week. around the bay shoreline. we'll have warm temperatures undern

the throb spots are the north bay mountains. we have the red flag warnings in effect for all of the areas including the east bay hills, you see the trouble spots, tonight, tomorrow morning, out lined in the mountains of napa county. eastern napa county. this is where those are close to the top of the 0-10 scale for fire danger index. the combination of offshore winds, warm temperatures, temperatures overnight. and even overnight where it will be occupying potential, along with the heat that is in place and it is still gripping much of the bay area. it is still 101 degrees in concord after 7:00 in the evening. still 97 in livermore, 96 in santa rosa. 93 in san jose. unseasonably warm night in the city. in the city temperatures are going to drop off heading through the rest of tonight and falling down. a few spots in the valley, 70 in livermore tomorrow morning, middle 70s in antioch. this is the dangerous part of this. we will not see temperatures in the 80 degrees, a lot of them in the 60s, the 70s, minimizing the amount of recov

but the north bay mountains, the east bay hills, the santa cruz mountains, the winds are going to be turning a bit over the next few days, but humidity levels are going to be bone dry in the afternoons with the hot air mass locked in place, and the excessive heat warning has been extended all the way through next tuesday. now the heat is gradually going to subside just a little bit every day after tomorrow. aro. but it's still going to be really hot all the way through the holiday weekend and even to start off next week that excessive heat warning for all inland parts of the bay area and they're still the heat advisory around the bay that continues through next tuesday as well, so it has been extended except in san francisco, where it's going to be allowed to expire a little bit later on this week, temperatures here are going to be well into the 80s for the next several days, which is substantially above average. it's all because this heat dome is just locked in place, but the maps in motion and this is motion. trust me, but things just don't move around a whole lot. the big picture

now, the areas in the orange and north bay inland valleys and the north bay mountains and the santa cruzmountains and the santa clara valley, all under a heat advisory during that time period. an excessive heat warning is in effect for this area. the east bay hills and the inland east bay valleys and down into the east santa clara hills. so just be prepared for five three days of very hot weather. and of course, the associated heat risks and health risks. looking at the forecast animation for the overnight hours, a little bit of a low cloudiness will develop along the coastline. not exactly a very impressive marine layer, and it'll be gone by mid-morning tomorrow, giving way to sunny skies and quite a warm up coming our way. overnight lows will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s. a few low 60s around highs tomorrow mid 60s at the coast, upper 80s in some locations around the bay shoreline. numerous inland areas. upper 90s to about 103 degrees. even hotter on tuesday, which is likely to be the hottest day in the forecast period. and on wednesday, still pretty hot. we start to get a little

the inland mountains and the east bay hills goes into effect at 11:00 tonight. humidity levels in the north bay mountains don't recover, staying below 20%. and that means that we are going to add any type of moisture to the fire fuels during the overnight hours at off shore winds and critically low humidity levels during the afternoon levels in the mix and spells out an elevated mix. usually the humidity levels are climbing up to 50%. they will be in the 10-15%, low humidity levels continuing into wednesday, reflection of the hot air mass that will be locked in place. taking a look at the forecast. starting inland, the heat will be on. the coolest day, 99 degrees. through the holiday weekend. temperatures are going to be a mix of upper 90 exps lower 100s for parts of bay area. have a plan to stay safe in the extreme heat over the next couple of days and be prepared for the possibility of power outages, a lot of stress on the power grid over the course of the next few days the temperatures around the bay, back down gradually. still around 80 degrees by next monday. it is a good 6 or 7 degree

the red flag warning that continues not only through tonight, but through saturday for the north bay mountains, the east bay hills, and the santa cruz mountains, where we not only have some of the hottest temperatures, we also have some gusty winds at times and dry air where humidity could drop down to as low as 1,011. the heat rolls on the heat advisory around the bay shoreline continues, and then the excessive heat warning for most of us inland and an excessive heat warning, remember, is the highest threat when it comes to hot temperatures. this will continue through next wednesday. so again, look at nine days total underneath this heat wave. highs in our microclimates this afternoon we're hitting 98 in san jose 102 in los gatos, 96 in santa clara we'll go to 102 in gilroy along the peninsula 96 redwood city, 92. los altos, 91. mountain view, 90 san mateo, the coast so very comfortable, upper 60s to the lower 70s for daytime highs now across the city. pretty wide range of temperatures south san francisco in the low 80s will probably hit the upper 70s downtown, and then cooler as you head tow

that encompasses the north bay, the east bay, the south bay, the santa cruz mountains. because we will have some very warm temperatures to deal with starting tomorrow, and it will last for several days. in fact, this heat wave likely lasting five days until the start of the weekend. so you do take a look at future tracker temperatures. by tuesday afternoon, the city we're going to the 80s. look at oakland into the 90s. and then you see these hot temperatures as you head away from the coast in the north bay. the inland east bay, where well above 100 degrees. and that does continue into wednesday as well. by wednesday afternoon, we do have some cities flirting with 110 as their daytime high. so this is dangerous heat. remember, when it comes to these heat waves, it's a cumulative effect, meaning each day it wears your body down. so you do want to stay hydrated. because we have a major to extreme heat risk inland. those are the reds. and purples you see on your screen. so for a lot of folks who are underneath some of these heat advisories and excessive heat warnings, we do

now this will be in place for the highlighted areas through friday, especially for the north bay mountains, the east bay hills, and also the santa cruz mountains. coming up, we'll talk more about the air quality impacts and also expected daytime highs heading into tomorrow. audrey. all right. vianey thank you. around the bay, fire chiefs are pleading with people to not light off illegal fireworks as this blistering heat wave continues through the holiday weekend. today we're also getting a better look at how san jose is cracking down on illegal fireworks. nbc bay area's ian cull has been digging into this story, and ian, we're already seeing the biggest reason why the chiefs are pleading with people right now. yeah, exactly. one of the latest fires in our region is believed to have been caused by fireworks that happened in the concord hills. the fire broke out around 230 overnight. the cal fire camera shows how quickly it spread. at least seven acres were burned. firefighters believe, since it happened so far away from the road and homes that a firework was likely to blame, and luckily the

warning for high fire danger remains in effect for much of the bay area, especially the santa cruz mountains. the east bay hills, the north bay mountains until 5 a.m. friday. relative humidity readings may drop as low as 10. that is, dangerously low, with wind gusts occasionally up to 30mph. which of course can increase the risk of fire. right now we're looking at breezy conditions. we're not looking at it. any sustained winds that are of high speeds, but occasionally we do get gusts. even now up to about 20 to 25mph. now the next three days will bring us more of this kind of heat tomorrow. look for high temperatures in our inland areas well above 100 degrees, up to about 105 106, in the hottest locations. similar range of highs on friday and almost no change at all on saturday. in fact, even higher in some places 107 108, in places like antioch, concord and fairfield and up north, clear lake, cloverdale and ukiah, 110 111 degrees. as late into the forecast period as saturday. now the heat wave is with us for a while, so be sure to drink plenty of fluids, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing if you can. take breaks in

course, these red flag warnings will also be in effect all the way through saturday for the north bay mountains, the santa cruz mountains, the east bay hills as well. so what can we expect for your friday forecast? well, let's talk heat risk index into friday. now we're still going to see some areas with major and extreme, especially in through the interior. notice spots like livermore, fairfield, but san jose, morgan hill, san martin and gilroy will climb once again into the triple digits more comfortable around san francisco in the upper 70s. could even get a couple low 80s around the peninsula as well. if you're wondering about saturday, let's look ahead. we're still going to keep some risk there. we still got several triple digits, and i talked about that high pressure kind of moving a bit more east, but it's still going to center itself right over california. that means we could see the climb back up into those 110 marks in the northern areas, or i should say northern california. and even in through parts of nevada as well. now, your seven day stretch for san francisco does show some good

that's staying in effect until saturday night, santa cruz mountains included in that, east bay hills, north bay mountains, everybody has to be incredibly cautious now on the landscape through that window and really the rest of summer. red flag warnings do add a separate layer of urgency. that has to do with how dry the air is now and intensity of the heat. it's not like we have terribly strong offshore winds now. we don't, but it's so hot and that pulls so much moisture out of the landscape. that's the driving concern there. speaking of pulling moisture out of the landscape, it's going to do that to you, too. when we look at the heat risk map that's color coded for higher degree of risk. when you look across most of the bay, look at this big purple splotch for the inland valleys of the east bay where some of the more intense issues are. everybody has to be real mindful of this, but the inland east bay in particular needs to be especially vigilant over the next nine days. you'll see that when we get to the seven-day forecast as well. we'll get a little bit of help tomorrow in terms of the ma

we've got a red flag warning in effect through saturday for the north bay mountains. the santa cruz mountains, and in through the east bay hills. now tomorrow we're going to see similar conditions, but we're going to start to actually gradually warm up back again into that triple digit mark by the time we get to saturday. as that high pressure adjusts itself one more time. now, fremont 89, san jose 92. look at the triple digits in through vacaville, clear lake 109. and then let me just give you a sneak peak into saturday. we are expecting to see some 80s on the map for san francisco, and we do have some partly cloudy skies. you saw some of those clouds rolling in around the coastline. it still should be okay for fireworks tonight, but we're going to keep the triple digits for inland areas. it isn't really until i would say stretching out even past wednesday, which is when that heat warning right now is set to expire. we're still going to keep the upper 90s in the forecast, which means we're still going to be pretty hot, even though we're not going to climb into the tri

fire danger, high fire danger, especially in these elevated areas that you see in red to the north bay mountains, the santa cruz mountains, and in through the east bay hills, especially in any of those grassy areas. now, as you seek relief from the heat and you head to the coast, there's also a coastal flood advisory in effect through tomorrow morning because of high astronomical tides. what that means is we could see minor coastal flooding, mainly around the local trails and parking areas near the water. now, the heat risk index into friday remains pretty much major to extreme. look at this 107 for vacaville, napa 100 san jose will remain in that moderate to major at 92 los gatos 101 morgan hill 105. and then we do catch those 70 still remaining in san francisco. and half moon bay. now let's take a closer look at your saturday forecast as you look ahead towards the weekend. still, in that triple digit mark. and we could even see some 110 112 marks up through areas in the north bay. so definitely keep this in mind as you take a look at this ten day outlook. and you're wondering why are we still

the fact that's helping us is we aren't going to have gusty offshore winds developing in the north bay mountains in the higher elevations. it will allow the fire fuels to absorb a little moisture, but we have to still keep a close eye on it into the weekend. looking outside from the mark hopkins hotel, a little haze on the horizon, air quality moderate. the concern is the heat, 103 now in livermore, 106 degrees in concord still, 95 degrees in san jose. you're down to 88 in santa rosa, not bad considering you were 105 earlier today, 82 degrees now in oakland, 73 comfortable degrees in san francisco. later tonight month of our temperatures drop down into the 60s. that's above average, 5 to 10 degrees above normal. so it's a relatively short window of time when we get a chance to maybe open the windows and recover from the heat that's built up inside the house. those temperatures will only occur early tomorrow morning. you might have to wake up in the middle of the night and open up the windows. along the coast and in the bay 50s by early tomorrow morning and low 50s around petaluma. the north bay

still fairly low topping out around 30% heading into early tomorrow morning in the north bay mountains mount vaca, but as the humidity drops tomorrow, we won't see single-digit values. it's the influence of the onshore breeze. at least it's helping us fractionally with the fire threat. the fire threat remains elevated through the entire holiday weekend. here's the look outside now from the golden gate. things are clear there, not a hint of fog. temperatures are 74 degrees in downtown san francisco. one of these things does not like the other because we have mid-90s in san jose and santa rosa and 100 degrees or more in livermore and concord. later tonight the temperatures back down, but it takes a while. when you're still at 107 degrees at almost 6:00 in the evening, it's going to be a process to get down to the 60s. some spots closer to the water and the north bay valley will dip down to the 50s and we heat back up. along the coast you should get around evan 70 degrees, 90s down the peninsula. we have crazy hot reachings approaching 1 approaching 110 degrees. mid-80s for oakland, mid-

and you can see the advisory highlighted in orange there for the north bay, the santa cruz mountains and the north bay interior mountains. so we are looking at still some warm temperatures. 96 in livermore, right now, as well as brentwood and concord. and you see that 65 at sfo, 55 half moon bay. and as we move up to the north bay, we're in the 80s and 90s. it will be hotter tomorrow. overnight tonight we are looking at temperatures dropping off to the upper 60s inland, while the rest of us will be in the 50s. so how much hotter tomorrow? anywhere from a degree to about four degrees warmer. and that will put you up over 100 degrees again in our inland valleys. but notice those 80s and 90s elsewhere, so certainly could be a lot hotter. their highs today from 102 or tomorrow, i should say, in concord to the mid and upper 80s on the peninsula, some 90s up in the north bay, and the accuweather seven day forecast, the hottest day tuesday cooling on wednesday we'll be out of the triple digits inland, but the real cooling inland will happen closer to the end of the workweek. and you'll notic

it is not a super thick layer of fog, and the fog is actually pulling across the north bay mountains. to be able to bring us some relief when it comes to the excessive heat we've been dealing with. this morning we are dealing with a little bit of fog this morning. seeing a nice view all around san francisco. but it is quiet and comfortable and if you want to stay in bed a couple of extra minutes, i don't blame you. upper 50s to low 60s all across the san francisco bay area and a beautiful start to our day when it comes to the fog blanketing the santa clara valley. brought to us by that wildfire smoke and that sun is bright and also shrouded by that layer of hayes in the higher levels of the atmosphere. today, get out and enjoy some nice, comfortable heat all across the bay area with high temperatures seasonable for once. 60s across the coastal communities, 70s and 80s the further inland you go. again, it really depends on where you are and how warm we will be getting. over the next seven days, we will see more heat begin to build. so get out before 90s return to the forecast. and by t

saturday for the north bay interior mountains, the east bay hills and the santa cruz mountains.at dry brush is getting pretreated with all that heat. so the concern here is the fires start. there was a fire start that could lead to a rapid growth. so something to be watching closely over the next several days. it is 7:00. it's still very hot. some 90s out toward concord and livermore right now san jose 83, san francisco. that's a pleasant 63 degrees. and that's some 80 up in the north bay for portions of marin and sonoma counties. we have the fog, though. earlier today, near the coast, but that coverage has been kind of melting away over the past few hours. but here you can see right now that fog bank is actually trying to bulk up in coverage. there's a patch out there moving into portions of the san francisco area and also out toward the golden gate bridge. so patchy coastal fog tomorrow morning. temperatures will be in the 50s 60s and the lower 70s. and that's what our forecast model is thinking. so we'll have partly cloudy skies for the coast. temperatures there close to 70 d

red flag warning in the mountains of the north bay, the east bay, the santa cruz mountains through 9:coast with a mix of clouds and sun, a kind of warm in stinson upper 70s. there you saw foggy santa cruz a few moments ago. 83 there today, obviously with the sunshine, but looking at that fog pulling back to the coast and it will be around. so we're going to get that sea breeze. it should feel pretty nice. here's a look at concord today. could be as hot as 108. we're looking at highs normally in the upper 80s. but look what happens tomorrow. we drop off. this continues into monday. and then tuesday still comfortable wednesday. and thursday we could see temperatures back up. so highs today once again in the south bay mid 90s. little change for you from san jose morgan hill 105 102 in los gatos and on the peninsula. it's been in the 90s for you. redwood city about as hot today. you get that sea breeze though. once again 76 there parts of san francisco where you're a little bit on the warmer side, but right along the coast here, some upper 60s from daly city and up in the north bay. check

friday for the north bay mountains, east bay hills, marin and sonoma coastal ranges and air quality officials have also extended a spare. the air alert into tomorrow. our chief meteorologist, bill martin, kicks off our coverage tonight. and bill record breaking temperatures in many areas today. >> yes, on the first day, heather of this heat event. this is the first day of many we're going to see four or 5 or 6 days of heat in the inland bay valleys. maybe not this hot, but still very hot. it was a record today in santa rosa at 105 degrees. it was a record in san rafael, 103 degrees. oakland, downtown 90 degrees. and then san jose tied a record at 102 degrees. but these temperatures, that 110 out there in fairfield, temperatures really heating up in our area. the heat advisory, heather mentioned the advisory, the red flag warning, the extreme heat advisory, the air quality issue, the a lot of those have have been extended, like the heat advisory, the extreme heat warning has been extended for an entire week. so that's unprecedented in my tenure. i can't remember that many days straight of that

so we're talking about the north bay marin and sonoma county mountains of the coastal mountains. and then as we get to the inland parts of the north bay as well, some of the interior mountains, obviously you can see it here all throughout the east bay in the east bay hills and the mountains there. and right along as we look along the delta as we head from vallejo towards fairfield, it means we have elevated fire danger and it's not surprising, right? we've got this kind of heat. we've been drying out already because we're in the middle of our summer season here. and as we go over the next 5 days, you can see these temperatures are going inland up up and up and you really don't see a break in it here. in fact, we caught a look at the next couple of days. so here's tuesday, those bright red showing that, you know, are going to be 15, 20 potentially 25 degrees above average, going to really right through wednesday into thursday. you see little variation in this, right. you just see a lot of this red still sticking with us into friday and into saturday. we do see a little bit of a pul

high fire danger for the north bay mountains right along the bay shore and even the east bay mountains. these go into effect tonight through wednesday. really the core of that heat wave being tuesday and wednesday itself. now what is today looks like for the city not so bad. 60's to 70's for san francisco 60's right along the immediate coastline. a lot of 70's 80's to 90's elsewhere, areas like redwood city, 86 degrees. san jose. you get into the upper 80's at 89 while some 90's back today in pleasanton livermore and dublin hayward, 81 san leandro, 80 degrees conquered 98 and areas antioch and vacaville actually reaching the triple digits 10102. that's only the start. take a look at some of these temperatures tomorrow and wednesday. it is going to be dangerously hot for so many inland areas. bayshore city's rising well into the 90's could see some near triple digits right along the bay as well. july 4th on thursday, continuing to be a scorcher as we will see into the weekend after the holiday. as for your roads, things out there are moving along a ok, got that sunrise nice and early on

saturday for the north bay interior mountains. the east bay hills, and the santa cruz mountains.hen you think about all this heat, relentless heat, everything is really drying out. so it's kind of pre-treating everything. as far as the grasses and the brush. so if a fire were to break out, that could be a dangerous and scary situation. as far as current numbers out there, right now, we still have 101 degrees in concord. santa rosa is 85, san jose 88 degrees. but you'll notice san francisco not nearly as warm in the mid 60s. so the fog cooled things off coast side and right around the bay today. these areas right now compared to yesterday a bit cooler. but the inland spots actually a little bit warmer compared to what, thursday at 6 p.m. here's a satellite where you can see this. the low clouds and fog near portions of the coastline. at least the coverage has been decreasing over the past few hours, but we could have some redevelopment overnight. tonight into your saturday morning. here is our live camera looking above san francisco, looking out toward downtown san francisco with

mountains. it includes the east bay hills and the north bay mountains for low humidity levels at night and northerly winds gusting to 35mph. it's all about hot temperatures this afternoon. look at highs versus average. we are well above where we typically land this time of the year by more than 20 degrees in spots napa, livermore, concord, santa rosa above 100 degrees. later this afternoon. so excessive heat warnings are in effect heat advisories as well. these have been extended through sunday evening. so through the holiday weekend for these very warm temperatures, the coast very popular over the next couple of days. so looking at the beach forecast today a little bit of morning cloud cover giving way to warm sunshine, 70s and 80s along the coast. no advisories in effect here. the ocean water temperatures at 56 degrees. just watch these temperatures really take off over the next couple of hours. by lunchtime, we're already hitting about 100 degrees in our hottest areas inland, and then it gets even hotter than that deeper into the day. so please take it easy out there. this heat wave is likely goi

the north bay interior mountains, the east bay hills and the santa cruz mountains until 9 p.m. tomorrow evening. so the heat continues, winds around 25 miles an hour. it's a dry pattern and relative humidity down to right around 16. take a look at the current numbers out there right now. 106 in livermore, concord, 103 degrees 105 in fairfield. so this is the heat we're really concerned with. and unfortunately, it's going to stick around. tomorrow could actually be a little bit warmer in a few locations. san jose 92 oakland is actually comfortable at 78 degrees. you can see the effects of the fog with temperatures near the shoreline in the 60s. so some areas actually a little bit cooler compared to this time yesterday. some areas a little bit warmer, especially livermore that's jumping off the map seven degrees warmer. here is the satellite where you can pick out some of the low clouds, the dense fog hanging out near portions of the coastline this afternoon. so that's keeping those temperatures down for the for the beaches. and also right around the bay shoreline. but here's our camera o

a lot of our north bay mountains seeing temperatures in the 70s and 80s.he oakland hills right now, quite mild at 71. even the east foothills of san jose, a current temperature of 73 degrees. so this is the launching pad to get us into a hot afternoon later on today. look at highs versus average. the difference is pretty stark about 10 to 20 degrees above average for this time of the year. livermore, concord, santa rosa above 100 degrees. even around the bay shoreline, we have oakland. we have san jose in the 80s and in the 90s. so a heat advisory is in effect for good reason. high pressure is getting closer to us today. that's why we have the warmer weather. but by tomorrow it loses its grip on us and cooler air will rush in here for the weekend. but today we do want to take a little bit easy out there as we see those temperatures take off pretty quickly. this morning. by 1 p.m, we do expect 90s. if not our first 100 degree reading 80s and 90s around the bay. shoreline gets even hotter here as we head deeper into the day, so highs are certainly going to b

north bay. look at that. 89 in vacaville. so from san jose tonight the heat advisory continues for north bay interior mountains, our east bay hillse santa cruz mountains and the east santa clara hills through tomorrow 11:00. and by the end of the week, we are breezy and much cooler. so it's going to take another 24 to 48 hours to really get the cooling trend underway. we'll be below average to start out the weekend, and then temperatures coming up just a little bit for sunday. here's a look at your morning temperatures still mild 60s to near 70. but those 50s moving up through the north bay and the cloud cover well it's going to be patchy. the low clouds. this is sunrise tomorrow. and you notice the fog is along the san mateo coast, the marin county coastline. but that's about it. it's another sunny and warm afternoon for wednesday. but by thursday morning look at the fog moving back up into the north bay. and then eventually by friday, it is much more widespread and it's going to take a while to burn back, so temperatures will be much cooler. check it out from friday in the mid 80s to the low 80s on saturday, and then by sunday

you are in it as well as the coastal mountains in the north bay and the interior mountains in the north bay, which are definitely extended until tomorrow as we get into the early part of the evening. now, the reason for this is a couple of things. temperatures, humidity, levels and offshore wind. so first of all, let's talk temperatures. you can see triple digit heat already in antioch saying at 101, we're in the upper 90's there in spots like livermore concord. same story in santa rosa. nevado now at 95 degrees. even warm in the south bay, san jose at 93 and head to downtown san francisco. you know, we're flirting with 80 degrees already at 78. and you can see the only spot this really cool and cool being a relative term is half moon bay sitting at 66. so this is the offshore wind component that i'm kind of concerned about, which is that we're getting a bit of a northerly flow. if you look to the north here, you get that north or north easterly direction, meaning that that wind comes off shore, meaning that is bringing dry air towards us right now. we've got down to the surface. you st
