in the north bay mountains, gusts from 30 to 45mph. so by the time we get to lunchtime tomorrow, everybody should see those dry offshore breezes. but the wind speeds not too extreme around the bay area. they'll be coming down as we head into monday evening and monday night. and with those wind sheltered areas you're looking at patchy frost possible for tomorrow morning. this includes san jose tri-valley up towards those north bay valleys. and then as we start to see the sunshine and the warmer temperatures tomorrow afternoon, less low clouds, lingering means mostly 60s for highs tomorrow. mid 60s around san jose, close to 60 in san francisco and oakland. now unfortunately, as we talked about high wind warning, red flag warnings back for southern california, we could see mountain wind gusts above 75mph northwest of la into ventura county. so you got the high wind warnings there south of the grapevine and red flag warnings east of santa barbara, around los angeles, through orange county to east of san diego. next two days, locked in by th

we do have these high wind advisories for the north bay mountains. now, as far as the big picture set up goes very similar to last week below branching off the jet stream and with it dragging this dry air out towards the coast, we are seeing extraordinary fire danger for the southern parts of the state because the fact we got these winds, the dry humidity haven't seen the winter rains yet. so with those fire still actively burning in southern california comes that risk of continued rapid spread. now one plus of the wind is it is pushing the smoke away from the coastline. it's not really dealing with smoke, especially not for the bay area. temperatures today in the 60's, whether you're in san francisco, the coast or along the bayshore inland, it is another above average day across the bay. as far as temperatures go. so we're keeping this a dry, sunny january trend going. san jose and santa clara at 66 degrees. each pay temperatures low to mid 60's for you. oakland, san leandro at 63 north bay temps. also right at 63 in napa bunny ship allay sandra fel

give us more sunshine tomorrow, but it's going to be gusty in the north bay mountains. we'll see wind speeds of about 45 to 50 mile per hour gusts, maybe locally higher up near mount saint helena. and then as we head into monday night and tuesday morning, wind speeds do come down. so dayside tomorrow breezy and dry around the bay area. after that chilly start to the morning, most wind sheltered valleys waking up to the 30s tomorrow morning. then we'll see. breezy, dry conditions, more sunshine, which means a chance of 60s again around san jose, low 60s into san francisco and oakland. overall, the weather pattern not changing. this is the reason we're not seeing any rain. this continues to block incoming storms. what we get instead are cooler, windy, and dry weather systems that drop down on the eastern flank of that ridge of high pressure. we're hopeful this might scoop up a little bit of moisture, and at least bring a chance of showers closer to parts of california for the weekend, but right now looks mainly breezy and cool as we head into next weekend. so short term,

north bay. if you can even make out the light tan here. so that's our interior north bay mountains:00am monday until tuesday. so here's the wind model. it's calm now. but overnight, as you can see, north of napa in the hills there, it lights up in the red in lime-green. that's 20 to 30 miles per hour. wind gusts. you can see power outages and that does matter. if you drive a high-profile vehicle, winds start to spread around the 06:00am hour and around the after news. that is where that wind advisories issue you can see where it lights up on the map and winds start to ease by the evening on monday. so here's the future cast model. i added the iso bars because latin, when you notice the lines are closer together, that indicates how strong the winds are. as you can see how close it is by our north bay mountains and even towards los angeles there with those santa ana winds. this is going to be the pattern from now through the middle of the week. so that's going to warm us up during the day. but we also have chilly temperatures. air quality is looking good with the exception of the sou

north bay to the south bay this morning, so patchy frost and fog. so monday. windy conditions in the hills, particularly the north bay mountains, but we'll see those wind gusts all throughout the east bay. the diablo range probably not quite as high. and then beyond that, we'll get into a milder forecast where temperatures will warm up through the 60s, even possibly 70, in the south bay, wave heights currently continue to go up here. so our beach hazards statement until 7:00 for dangerous conditions here all along the pacific coast. and as we look at our wind advisory here, 4 a.m. tomorrow morning through 1 a.m. on tuesday, you can see from clear lake, mount saint helena, the very gusty winds. we've got nothing but sunny conditions throughout your sunday. a little fog comes back, but look at those offshore winds all throughout the day on monday and tuesday. then eventually some higher clouds move in and then the wind gusts there from 30 to 40 miles an hour. so a breezy to gusty day in the upper elevations for tomorrow. and then here's our warm up. wednesday mid 60s, thursday upper 60s to 70s and friday. we are still mild. high

the winds start to strengthen and then a wind advisory goes into effect for the north bay mountains, in fact, will be windy cross the entire bay area starting at 04:00am that wind advisory does start in the north bay, especially we're looking at 20 to 30 mile per hour winds gusting to 40, 40 mile per hour winds. even 45 mile per hour winds. but in the north bay mountains up there, we could see gusts the highest peaks to 60 to 70 mile per hour gusts. so that wind advisory goes into effect tomorrow morning at 4 and stays in effect until tuesday at 01:00am. so we'll have these with very gusty winds across the entire bay area, but especially the north bay hills almanac shows that will be about 4 degrees cooler in san francisco event climate to logically normal. the old record set back in 18. 91 was 70 degrees. so you see a lot of areas in the 70's and the 50's today. that would be even along the coastline. 53 degrees for pacifica and 54 in south san francisco. so right along the bay shoreline, we stay mainly in the 50's with a few areas in the 60's in the south bay. and then we get into 5

north bay. always seems to get picked on in these scenarios. north bay mountains get the hardest winds and the coldest morning lows. we're going to do this for the whole day in a second. if you pick out your number here, each day after tomorrow morning's lows, it's going to go down two or three degrees by tuesday. by the time we get to tuesday, instead of being upper 30s at our coldest, we're going to do more mid-30s by tuesday. it's going to be cold as we head through the next several mornings here. let's take a look at everybody else's number. we'll take that tour down south. we're not going down as cold as the north bay, but whatever your number is, it's a couple degrees, like three or four colder than that. by the time we get to tuesday. so it won't go down three or four each day, but by the time we make it to tuesday, you will have made it about three to four degrees cooler than the numbers for tomorrow. there's your seven-day forecast. no rain, unfortunately. we'll look at the long range coming up in the next weather forecast in the next half hour. we'll loo

north bay dropping to the 30s like cloverdale 35, lakeport 32, ukiah 29. and then we'll see some mid and upper 30s in concord, antioch and livermore. it's going to be windy in the north bay mountainsough tomorrow morning. and also we could see some frost in the east bay hills and the santa clara hills too. tomorrow's temperatures will be similar to what we experienced today. temperatures generally between 55 to 60 degrees. so on the cooler side. but we will get some sunshine in parts of the north bay and then some. really cold temperatures come in tomorrow night through wednesday morning, so it will be chilly. almost everyone except along the coast and solano county, where temperatures might reach below freezing, so down to 26 degrees, possibly in some isolated locations, it's going to be cold. you'll want the kids to wear their jacket if they're heading to school, but then the good news is we'll have temperatures warm up in the afternoon with plenty of sunshine, and it's going to be really nice for the start of the lunar new year before rain arrives for the beginning of the month. >> i have a friend in new york who was complaining that it was under 30 degrees. so cold. and here w

now tomorrow the winds are going to pick up, especially in our hills for the north bay mountains, thet bay hills and the santa cruz mountains. we do have a wind advisory in effect saturday through sunday morning, where we could see gusts upwards of 50mph. so downed trees and some power outages are possible. looking at the wind forecast, it's fine today, but tomorrow the winds ramp up first thing in the morning and they stay pretty elevated all day. so looking at the fire danger index this takes into account humidity moisture levels and our vegetation, the wind gusts and parts of the north bay and some specific spots in the east bay. we could see moderate to high fire danger early saturday afternoon before the winds relax on sunday morning. looking at the three day forecast, we'll track a lovely day today. gusty winds return tomorrow, but they calm down here for the most part on sunday. look at and that is the metering lights at the bay bridge toll plaza have been turned on, but right now there's not much of a backup, although we'll start to see that change very quickly. also, better n

this is in the north bay, east bay hills, diablo range and santa cruz mountains through late tomorrowventually we should see the wind speeds back off a bit as we move forward into sunday afternoon and sunday evening. but notice that wind direction still staying offshore even into our monday forecast. offshore winds a sign that high pressure remains locked in just to our west. so morning temperatures in the wind sheltered valleys will be chilly. next few mornings could be waking up to 30s and 40s. high temperatures tomorrow again. above average, likely mid 60s south of san jose and low 60s around san francisco to oakland. so we've been talking about how unusual this fire danger is for january, the lack of rain. this is what january should look like. gulf of alaska low kind of acting like a pinwheel for storms to reach the west coast. high pressure flattened out and just to the north of hawaii. but this is the upper air pattern we've seen most of this month. instead, summerlike high pressure, like a blocking high set up to the west, which allows these areas of low pressure to drop into

gusts up to 50 miles an hour in the north bay mountains.ming on monday morning. and the timing for this advisory is quite long. it started last night at midnight. and it doesn't expire until we get into about monday afternoon. so there's a listening period of time here with a wind advisory, but it doesn't stay this strong the whole time. we are not going to have 50-mile-an-hour gusts on mount saint helena. they've slackened a little bit from a peak this morning. so they'll kind of relax a bit and then pick up again on monday morning. and we'll see another push of stronger offshore winds. the same time southern california is feeling an increase in their winds as well. we don't have any fire weather concerns here. not only because these winds are not as strong as what they're going to experience but also because, as we've stated so many times, we've gotten more than enough rain from this winter that we are very well protected from any fire weather concerns at this point. so it's just the wind issue. slightly drier conditions. and drier condit

gusty winds in the north bay mountains where a wind advisory goes into effect 10:00 tomorrow evening for wind gusts potentially over 50 miles per hour. the wind advisory extends further to the east, and into the sierra where they will see some accumulating snow for the first time in a few weeks. we are talking a couple of inches lake level. close to eight inches on top of some of the peaks. most of this falling saturday into saturday night. so if you are headed in that direction, be prepared for slow travel coming back by sunday afternoon into sunday evening. maybe that is just a good excuse to put off coming back until monday. long range doesn't mention the extended look beyond the scope of the seven day forecast. it is not as strong a signal as what we have been talking about. for the first time in a while, a signal toward wetter than normal conditions. it is that long range data. we'll have to wait and see. we dry out and stay mild. temperatures around 60 degrees and the next chance of showers headed our way thursday of next week. not going to amount to a whole lot but with a dry

so here are the areas under the wind advisory the north bay mountains, diablo range, east bay hills, santa cruz mountains. here's the timeline on the peak wind gusts after midnight tonight, 6 a.m. tomorrow. those areas in red and purple indicating wind gusts on the higher hills there of the north bay and the inland east bay above 45mph. mostly a saturday event. then, as we head into sunday, the wind speeds start to back off as we wrap up the weekend. so the wind advisory starts things off on saturday, mostly 40s around noon we got sunny skies, dry conditions, those offshore breezes probably running for the chapstick. at times it's really dry as you get the humidity crashing down below 25% across those inland valleys. temperature wise though, pretty pleasant outside with numbers staying in the low to mid 60s this weekend. now keep in mind this is normally one of the wettest times of the year for the north bay. we usually average a quarter inch of rain per day. instead, we've got this blocking ridge of high pressure corresponding to the fire danger to the south, and the reason why there

about this wind advisory, but it does remain in effect until just after midnight for the north bay interior mountains and for the east bay hills. winds will generally the sustained winds be out of the north at about ten, about 20 to 30 miles an hour, with gusts between 35 and 50mph. although the chance of gusts that strong is diminishing now. and of course, there is the possibility of downed tree limbs and some power outages. the 24 hour temperature change is pretty impressive. it is quite a bit warmer right now than at this time yesterday. 11 degrees warmer in novato and concord and hayward and san carlos. so on we go to a look at our beach hazards statement, which will expire at 7:00 this evening. but until then, we still have rough surf and dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, and an increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves. we have a frost advisory where we will have in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. we had one this morning as well. temperatures in the east, in the north bay interior valleys and the east bay interior valleys and the santa clara valley will drop down

that's in effect for the north bay mountains beginning at 10:00 tomorrow night.ould gust over 50 miles an hour as the heart of this storm system passes overhead. the wind advisory extends farther east into the central valley and the sierra. that's going to add up some snow out of this system, not a lot, but the ski resorts, everybody heading up to take advantage of the ski resorts, they'll be very grateful for the fresh powder, anywhere from a couple inches at lake level to potentially 6 to 8 inches on top of some of the higher peaks. there's a winter weather advisory farther south in the sierra. conditions on i-80 and u.s. 50 probably not that bad, but maybe a little slippery if you're making your way back sunday. in terms of the long range rain chances, the six to ten day outlook from the climate prediction center continues to show a drier than normal pattern, but we're in the lowest category in the drier than normal outlook as we head into early february. brace yourself. in the eight to 14-day outlook, an actual signal towards wetter than normal conditions. ma

there's a wind advisory going into effect at 10:00 tonight for the north bay mountains, including thetral valley and parts of the sierra into the weekend and in the sierra they're going to add up a little bit of snow. let's talk about how much could possibly add up with futurecast here. forecast models are never perfect, but they show the snow level dropping to around 3,000 feet with an inch or 2 at lake level and some of the higher peaks picking up maybe 6 to 8 inches of total snowfall. farther down the line there are hopeful signs heading into early february, the six to ten-day outlook and eight to 14-day outlook from the climb prediction center both indicate at least a weak trend towards wetter than normal conditions as we head into the new month. seven-day forecast, that's the same one for everybody, so no real differences in temperatures from coastal to bayside to inland, everybody in the mid- to upper 50s this weekend, closer to 60 degrees for the first half of next week. there's that next chance of showers late thursday into friday next week, finishing off january with the chan

especially in the north bay, wind advisory in effect at 10:00 tomorrow evening for the north bay mountainsds to the east into the central valley and the sierra as well. they are going to get some snow for the first time in the last several weeks. let's take a look at futurecast as we go through the weekend in the sierra. the first wave of very light snow isn't going to be much more than a few flurries friday night. but the actual accumulating snow is going to hit the ground around midday on saturday. it's going to add up to the tune of a couple inches at lake level and 3 to 6 inches of snow on top of some of the peaks. if you're heading in that direction, get some fresh powder, goods news. bad news is travel condition on the way back on u.s. 50 and i-80 might be tricky by sundays afternoon. then things should be coming to an end by sunday night. it's not the only chance of precipitation, snow in the sierra, rain here, that we have in the extended forecast. there's another chance, a one in three chance, headed our way by thursday of next week. but it is just nice to at least see some typica

north bay. those gusty winds offshore putting us under that wind advisory through about tomorrow morning. the peaks of their the interior mountains in the north bay could get the gusty winds there, leading to maybe some tree limbs flying around and possibly some power issues. so prepare for that. that's all because we are getting this low pressure system coming into the bay area. you'll notice cloudy skies at times, maybe squeezing a drop or two as we go through the morning. as that low wraps itself around a gloomy day. so if you don't want to leave the house, i don't blame you. we go on into the afternoon. still some scattered activity. eaton later part of this evening where it could stt to ramp up will be in the overnight hours. so we'll follow that. and you might notice little dots of pink that start to appear on the screen. we could be waking up and seeing a light dusting down here for mount hamilton. also up there for the north bay mountains where the air will just be so cold, allowing for about maybe two inches. if we are lucky, the activity will continue into tomorrow and maybe continue to push out south into the monterey

and that gusty pattern, especially in the north bay mountains.00 on sunday where wind gusts are already elevated and you can see throughout the morning hours there windiest here. and then they'll begin to subside throughout the afternoon and then pick up again into your sunday morning. so these are north to northeast winds. that offshore component in the upper elevations. and the cloud cover will be with us from that upper level low that is spinning to the east of us. you can see it bringing in a few showers this afternoon into this evening and then into sunday. it begins to fade away. we will have that offshore component to our winds, and then get into a little more sun on sunday, but temperatures are going to be below average the next several days. rainfall estimates anywhere from a couple hundredths today, maybe up to five hundredths. and then through tonight, maybe a few more showers into sunday morning, 10:00. and you'll notice the totals are still below a 10th of an inch. so our winter weather advisory for the mountains here where greater l

tomorrow night through the weekend we have a wind advisory through the north bay mountains, wind gusts 50 miles per hour, including much of the central valley and the sierra. too. that's where they'll be picking up additional snowfall the first time in weeks of the first wave of very light snow moves through friday night into early saturday morning, a little break in the action and then the main event by midday saturday, continuing through saturday afternoon and evening. snowfall totals will be modest, a couple inches at lake level, maybe 6 inches in the higher peaks and that's going to be about it with this particular storm system before it slides further south, just a little snow to freshen up some of the ski runs. farther down the line, the last day of the seven-day forecast does bring at least a chance of showers back into the bay area and a chance of snow back into the sierra. we'll continue to monitor that. it is the very last day of the seven-day forecast. woe won't make any promises yet. the seven-day forecast does include the return to near normal temperatures over the weekend

we've got a wind advisory in the north bay mountains tomorrow and if we look at what the actual numbers will be once again, your 50-mile-an-hour wind gust going across the peaks, this is typical for offshore winds. it's going to be a lot stronger in the mountains. the lower elevations do not have a wind advisory, but there is one important exception we should discuss. the east bay hills, if you look at the wind coming in the way it's or oriented, it's hitting the east bay hills here and will likely downslope tomorrow. we'll bring up the forecast monitor to allow me to get more specific and slow down the progression of this. keep your eye on the time and watch what happens as we get into the early morning hours of tomorrow. the winds will start picking up here and i'm going to let this go until around like say 6:00 a.m. and that's when you'll see the deeper shades of orange really fill in for much of the immediate east bay. now we've got gusts in the low to mid-40s. this is just on the verge of needing a wind advisory here and the national weather service would take two things into accou

. >> in the north bay mountains. we'll talk about that. it's also going to get colder. these will be colder winds than we've had lately. first thing i want to show you is why it's going to feel noticeably colder on saturday than it will tomorrow. so the first thing we'll do is look at the northern hemisphere and color code this. if we look at the midlevels of the atmosphere and just the temperature profile, deep blue where the cold air is, look what is about to slink down our way and spill right over us. this is not like going to be an arctic blast, but your daytime highs will be noticeably colder on saturday and for a couple days after that because of that, but also because it's going to get a bit windy. so when we look at what is the layout for us, there is a wind advisory and that was what anne was just talking about. so at the same time the cold air's spilling down here, we'll also see the winds pick up. they'll be offshore winds, so they'll be going northeast to southwest which is typical when you get into your offshore winds. they'll be gusty in the mountains, but
