i have lived in north beach for 25 years. i worked at the st. peter and paul church and throughout the city, specifically helping homeless families find places to find food and shelter. i came here to speak specifically about notice, because the city has failed, in my opinion, the members of the swimming club and the tennis club, telling them about what is going on. i want to correct one thing that was stated by the first speaker in public comment, which is that we are all very wealthy people who belonged to the swimming club. i am not wealthy. i work for st. vincent. that is my job. the pay is almost nothing. the reason i can afford to go to this club is because for my health i like to swim. you do not have to belong to the tennis part. i do not, because it is expensive. i belong to the swimming part. this contradicts with the idea that it is a bunch of wealthy people. i do not belong to any of these groups, telegraph hill or anything. but if you were to go to the pool every day -- i swim every day -- it would cost more to go to the pool in nor

whether it is our friends at north beach or people here in chinatown. in talking with the merchants all over china town, chinese chamber, the stockton street merchants, the chinatown merchants association -- we wanted to capture a little bit more improvement this year on pedestrian safety. there was an idea that was created and talked about for several weeks where it began by a few years ago when i was public works director, that we expanded some of the sidewalks for the benefit of pedestrian safety. we worked very closely with the traffic division of mta. we worked with our health department. we worked with chinatown neighborhood groups and the businesses to expand those sidewalks, and it has actually become quite a positive thing. then, we had sunday streets this past year in the summer where we literally took over grant ave. that became a very positive thing. in fact, we started the first ping-pong tournament in chinatown as a result. more and more, there has been an interest that more of the sidewalks and potentially maybe even a strip of the parkin

hopefully, we saw it yesterday in chinatown and north beach. we saw it in a western addition area. i think it reference a 60% increase in the last four years in the number of bicycle trips. most of them are saying i want to bike more. there's our opportunity. there's where we can grow and we can learn. some folks are coming out for special events like sunday streets. more and more are riding every day. more and more are riding because we're making it easier and more convenient and more comfortable for them to ride. i want to thank the city family that helped deliver the separated green on market street. we've seen huge increases here on market street and we know this is what it will take. when we build it, they will come. we know we need to start at a younger and younger age. i'm proud of the safe roots program we're part of along with the city. we know that the appetite for bike suggest there when we're young. how do we cultivate that and keep it going and how do we make sure that our traffic jams in the future are bike parking log jams. we know we need to invest. the important bi

i was able to work mission, north beach, and it was great. a lot of agencies were out. there were some warnings for new year's and other times. sound is one thing we are trying to work with other venues and also crowd control up front. there were some minor incidences', but it was very good. we have been seeing a steady decrease in violence. it is leveling off, but we are continuing to see that drop. more recently, the woman who spoke about " street common -- about polk street, and we have been working to get patrols in that area. they were cited last week for crowd control. it can be a slow process before we see real change. we are working on those few blocks, so hopefully we will see more change and it will come more rapidly. we would give -- we are getting some more blunood as far as club owners. as far as incidents, i know officer mathias is here to talk about the central district. and one i will mention is 463 broadway. and we had a space above a legitimate venue on broadway. somebody was operating in an illegitimate venue, hoping they would slip under the radar, w
