every time i'm in north beach, i'm reminded of my great uncle and aunt who met in north beach. he was a fixture there in the '50s and '60s and she was the bell evidence secretary at the grammar school. they were both so proud of their italian heritage and i hope they would be proud of the steps we're taking here today. i want to thank the coalition of italian-american organizations and lorenzo ortono. i also want to thank supervisor peskin that represents north beach. this ordinance seeks to honor all italians for past and present contributions to san francisco and it seems to recognize the rich heritage of italian-americans and to celebrate their im measurable contributions on the second monday of october for generations to come. colleagues, i have a resolution i'm introducing today supporting the march for our lives that commends students for their effort to demand common sense gun laws and safety measures. on february 14, 14 students and three staff members were tragically killed. we lost aaron feis, football coach. christopher hixon, 49, school's athletic director, husband

i'm a north beach resident and a delegate to the coalition for san francisco neighborhoods. i'm here to urge you to adopt a pendi pending resolution to oppose sb27. we received an avalanche of amendments to the bill, which we have not had an opportunity to look at. on a quick reading, however, it appears that the most critical ones were not changed. i will comment on those. and that is the bill, as amended, will replace height limits based on proximity to something called transit rich corridors. it would set minimum heights for projects in these areas, 85, 55, 45 feet depending on street width and that would go even higher. in addition, it eliminates many of the local controls on density, ratios and parking, as well as certain design standards. we urge you to oppose 827 for a number of reasons. there's no need for the bill, first of all, the state density bonus law can achieve the same results and require on-site construction of affordable housing, which 827 does not have any requirement for any new affordable housing. under 827, applying local inclusi inclusion area or affo

a nice evening stroll through the north beach. san jose at 64, oakland 65, concorde, 66 degrees. tonight, dropping down to the 50s. fremont 51, san francisco 50, pacifico 53, here's the issue. no rain. zero, no snow in the mountains. for the water year, not bad. we are in the 50s and 60s when it comes to percentages. 8 1/2 inches of rain. good for 64% of the average. oakland at 70%. san jose has received the least amount of rainfall only 4 1/2 inches of rain. 59% of what's normal for this time of year. december, january, february, the wettest months. we get half of our annual rainfall in those months. when it comes to rain, not much. to 107 inch. we had a good january. february starting off a lot like december with not a lot of drops of rainfall. the storm track is not here. it's getting to the north and staying to the north in this case brockington -- blocking the ridge of high pressure. keeping the storms well away from northern california. future cast shows overnight into tomorrow morning, not many clouds. rolling three or weekend on saturday, a pleasant day to get outside. we

the years i started at the academy, the time i started my career in north beach, it was a time of renaissance. when the young people throughout thought they could change the world with our young enlightened values and principles, aspiring to make our community a more beautiful place to be enhanced with art and music. i still maintain the claim to these values and principles to this day. the world is always changing. our lives are always changing. it seems to much like a dream, and when i look within, it will always be amazing and a mystery. i do thank god and the universe for being able to have a vision to be a witness to it all. it's amazing and infinite wonders. sister wendy said one of the ways of looking at god is by looking at art. we all have different ways and how we experience the world in our lives, and the end, we will all come to the same conclusion. in the meantime, let's try to stay beautiful and continue to aspire. we will all become diamonds some day. thank you all again for the love and support you show me with your divine and honorable presence here today, all my love to you

former general manager and assistant designer of north beach leather. i've been in the leather industry for 32 years. yesterday i came back from being sick and got an e-mail from the bid association that i might want to be commenting on this hearing today. and i was not aware of the legislation, or notified, questioned, any research possibly done that would involve west coast leather. we are the largest retailer, like a department store, of leather and we do carry fur. all different categories of leather. so, when you examine a business, like a small business like west coast leather, there are sales that are generated which fur and fur trim and fur accessories would be a part of our business. and if there was a ban on every type of fur, that would lose 10% of my business at a significant negativity towards the small retailers surviving. i spoke with the supervisor this morning, she was very polite and listened to my concerns. i also notified all the other committee members that i was very upset that i wasn't made aware of this prior to the legislation.
