here's a look at the fire here at columbus and beach street in the north beach neighborhood.s say it appeared to be coming from the walls. they had to rip out the walls to get to it. they got the call just before midnight last night, around 11:50, they say, when they were dispatched here. the bar was open. people were inside. the bartender described for us what happened. >> i was bar tending downstairs and people were outside. they came in screaming there was a fire. i came outside and looked at the building. the building was on fire from the side and smoke coming out the top, and just got everybody out of the building. and stood there and watched it burn. >> he not only works here. he live s above the bar. he's headed to a friend's house for a place to stay. a total of nine people have been displaced by the fire, including five tourists staying in an airbnb that has smoke damage. no one was hurt except for one firefighter who suffered a cut to his hand. he was taken to the hospital. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you.

1970, a neighbor of this building, 14-year board member of north beach citizens, a homeless group of this area, founder of nick's village. all this experience gives me firsthand knowledge of how difficult the housing situation is, certainly, for the general public in these affordable housing, specifically seniors and the homeless. so i speak, obviously, in support of the projects on points one and three in your resolution. i won't go on much longer because you've had a very good presentation here, but the sponsors and the architects are nationally recognized. they've responded to public input with a staggering number of hearings. the project conforms 100% to the planning code, does not require variances. could have been three stories higher than it was, but the developers chose not to take that latest change to the planning code. this is exactly the kind of project that the public supports on port lands. it relates to the neighborhood architecturally, and from an urban design point of view, it follows the city's transit first view. what more could be asked for a project. every month

denye over here made his tux today and often makes his clothes and he is well known through north beach. he has been the same bear for 20 years. i want to tell you two quick stories. one is this bear one day went missing with a little boy who had some domestic violence in his house and he had to abruptly leave and go to another school. so the bear went with him and several days later, the kids were like where is mr. bear, we want mr. bear back. i said this boy needs mr. bear more than we do right now. about a month later i got a brand new bear and his little bag ready and journal and we were all set to take him home and in walks a social worker with mr. bear. i said to the kids, do you want the old bear or the new bear? what do you think they said? they wanted the old mr. bear, and we never lost this guy. he has been through a lot and i think he represents community, education and lots of things. and he is going to come on to cobb and meet his tigers over there, so i'm excited about that. and to mr. peskin, i just want to tell you the joke at our schoo

san francisco fire investigators are searching for cause of an overnight fire at an irish bar in north beach. the fire was first reported just before midnight in the three story wooden building where there are homes above the fiddler's green bar. there were several people in the bar and the apartments when the fire department arrived. they were all able to get out safea minor injury to his hand the scene. two neighboring buildings were also damaged. we'll have a live update in the next hour. >> two more of the trapped soccer players in the flooded cave in thailand have been rescued. ten of the 12 boys are safe. a third operation is underway to get the two remaining boys and their coach. the operation involves 19 divers and a medical team. heavy rains have cleared. when the rescuers reach the boys and the coach, it's a 2 1/2 mile journey to get them back to the entrance of the cave. we have new details on the operation and both a doct repor more boys of the flooded cave. thailand's prime minister visited the site. and officials say the second operation was faster boys -- some who can't swim -
