this is the green aing acres school in north bethesda. d.c., washington and virginia that's redskins country. not this l school. for years there has been an effort to get the washington redskins to change their name because some native american groups say that nape iso fencive. greenacres school sent a letter to parent saying they do sent here with clothing that racially denigrates a group. the they say i was in the an easy decision. wearing clothing with the name of our local football team or the logo that's an amath ma t our or mission. i think it's a racial slur much it's deeply demeaning. school administrators say the ban on redskins gear at greenacres school came after long talks in classrooms with questions about the the team logos like the washington redskins that are base ped on race or ethnicity. that's a question we asked virginia democratic governor terry mcauliffe. since charlottesville's violence, the governor declares that he wants all confederate statutes removed to stop hate speech. the govern or, though, has not called fo

this one getting bigger just to the north of bethesda around the white flint area and back towards portions of river road. heads up, these are also developing. more just to the north. >>> a fight over a confederate flag causing a rift between firefighters who work side by side in bethesda. this case ended up in court and pat collins tells us how it all ended. >> reporter: idris debruhl is a montgomery county firefighter. some of his fellow firefighters say they are scared of him. in fact, they went to court today to ask a judge to give them some protection, but the judge said that's not happening. >> i'm not going to have any comment, sir. the outcome? >> no comment. >> reporter: this goes back to a day last month at the bethesda firehouse. debruhl saw a confederate flag license plate on one of the firefighter's trucks and he got mad. they say his veins started popping and started yelling and calling firefighters cowards and racists. they say he told them you think you have guns, i have more guns than you. i'll end this. debruhl admits to the name calling but says he never made gun threats.

in north bethesda, maryland, tom fitzgerald report ing. the university of maryland will have ones less fraternity house this year. the university will no longer recognize maryland's chapter of kappa sigma. the decision to pull the plug on the fraternity was announced last week. the national fraternity had already revoked its charter. the frat has been under fire for years. back in 2014 a former member sent an offensive e-mail that included racial sleurs. last year the university put the fraternity on probation and ordered members to take corrective steps but school leaders say the frat failed to meet those expectations. kappa sigma will until the year 2022. the university of maryland taking steps to honor the life of richard collins. last may you you may remember the university student was stabbed to stop near the campus. tomorrow they will join with bowie state in remembering collins and will hold a number of programs on discuss hate, race raisin l politics. a company has been selected to investigate prince george's county schools. fox5 w
