flooding we have seen across much of the central plains and areas towards nashville and north georgiantains springs area. major thunderstorms ripped through the area. causing really rapid massive flash flooding. this comes in very, very quickly. they didn't sees a much rain there. but areas outside of it did, and that ends up sending all this water right through here. major problems right there. today we stand the chance to see repeats of that all the areas that have seen. take a look at that that's after the water is gone. you can see what a mess that left behind. all of that dirt and muck. it looks kind of like a war zone right there. very, very scary. go back to the weather maps and take a look. same story across parts of missouri and northern arkansas. this rain right here very heavy. a few spots in areas of missouri that have seen 18 inches of rain in the last nine days. that's what you would generally see in the entire summer. rain way too fast. the bulls eye has been southern areas of missouri and northern parts of arkansas over the -- some of this area needed the rain. that's

situated to north carolina and probably the state to look at the closest that resembles north carolina is georgiare we've seen their voter i.d. law be in place since 2008 and we've seen turnout amongst minorities including african americans and hispanics go up since the voter i.d. law went into place. another thing about the georgia experiment that we've seen is over the five years that they've had the law in place, less than -- between 30,000 and 40,000 free i.d.s have been issued by the state of georgia. so the impact hasn't been that great. that'sless than -- that'sless than 1% of the registered voters in the state of georgia and i think you're going to see a similar experience here in north carolina and so when you're talking about a common-sense measure like voter i.d. that 60% to 70% of the voters in north carolina approve of, i think it's a step in the right direction to improve the voting process and improve everybody's sense of integrity and have confidence in the election results. >> woodruff: congressman butterfield, i think i heard representative murry say in the state of georgia when

south you can see what's going on, a few thunderstorms popping up off towards the north and east of atlanta and georgiaat's going to continue throughout the day. all this because of a stalled out front that has not moved anywhere. as we go through the rest of today it will continue to stay in this area and we will continue to have high pressure build in for today but then it will start to slide more towards the east and that will allow more showers and storms possible in our area as an upper level trough works its way through. towards the west we have a cold front back there. that will make its way through as we head towards the end of the week and then just in time for the weekend we start to see improving conditions. this is what we have this morning in terms of temperatures coming in at 70 degrees in sparrow's point. good morning columbia, you're at 67 degrees and westminster 68 degrees. centerville you're coming in at 71. these temperatures are above average, not feeling too bad but we have more humidity to deal with today. there's that shower that i'm talking about as we go towards the afternoon,

north carolina. the focus tonight is georgia. many flash flood watches in effect for that region.s being kicked off by a tropical disturbance, which is weakening at the moment. it is just a trough of low pressure now. it has gone a long way to , perhaps moisture flooding rains for parts of the southeast. look at this. the desert southwest. monsoonal moisture continues to be the problem. they probably need the release. very hot there today. i mention the flash flood watches. here they are through parts of of the and also parts central gulf coast. very heavy rains expected to continue. if you are in the chicago area, we will not probably see any rainfall. our computer models show not even a cloud. tomorrow afternoon, it is possible that a few showers could fire along the kankakee area, but even that is highly doubtful. we will continue to watch that. that is the only thing of any note on this model. let's check our forecast. for tonight, we are looking at clear skies and an early lake breeze that will eventually become calm. low temperature, 57 in the suburbs to about 64 downtown. t
