they were brought to easton which was the county seat in north hampton county in pennsylvania. they were paraded through the streets, tied together with ropes around their next like common criminals. we might be wondering what was their crime? essentially their crime was the fact that their religious convictions prohibited them from joining the cause of independence and from pledging their loyalty to the new state of pennsylvania that was being formed. they were thrown into the county jail. and it's interesting to me because these were not trade officials in the british government. these were not tax collectors. these were not british officials who are enforcing the parliamentary acts that colonists were upset about. these were simply members of the small religious sect that really were not very threatening at all. so the experience of these moravians attest to the fact that support for the revolution was anything but uniform. and we've mentioned this before in this class in other contexts. it was not uniform and there were lots of different and diverse opinions and perspective
