i should say north of miami. the florida coastline. up toward boca and west palm beach this evening. this will continue to track overnight through the space coast here. then eventually, off to the north and to the east. and to go along with the strong winds will be the storm surge. in terms of coastal flooding. the inundation from the ocean pushing inland. you will not see a whole lot of it down in the miami area. the reason for that is some of the winds are going to be more out of thrt although you get on the northern side of the eye wall, that is where the winds are going to drive in. some of the biggest waves in the storm surge here. now the national hurricane center is worried about a six to nine-foot storm surge. that is a rise in the sea level. that does a lot of damage to coastal communities. there have been a lot of evacuations, stretching across much of east, central, and northern florida. evacuating their homes, as you said. sarah rosario is in daytona beach. residents are bracing for the worst. >> reporter: boarding up, stock

hurricane warnings closer to the bahamas and now up the east coast of florida north of miami all the way through jacksonville into southeastern georgia. it's that 95 stretch down into florida that will bear the bankrupt of this hurricane moving on shore, especially from west impeach points north up through the space coast, approaching as a category four hurricane tonight across southeastern florida and then that moves its way up the space coast and out to the east and then to the southeast. essentially what's happening over the weekend and into early next week, a big area of the high pressure is building in and blocking the storm from coming up the coast. hurricane force wind is extending many miles out from the eye here by about 45 miles, and this will put hurricane force wind close to west palm beach by this evening, and that's going to work its way up the coastline overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow, as it starts the make that turn, we should start to see it weekend. the question for us, not whether we get a big amount of wind, i think that stays well west of us, but ho

hurricane warnings just north of miami around fort lauderdale, west palm beach. hurricane watches have been extended up to the florida-georgia border back down the space coast. miami, key largo, keys under a tropical storm watch. let's get to the brand new path. they do increase it up to a category 4 through the bahamas and then friday at 2:00 p.m. they have just off the coast of west palm beach about 2:00 a.m., 130 mile-per-hour wind. this is a very close call for florida. possibility we could have a major hurricane rake the coastline from fort lauderdale northward all the way up the coast and especially thursday night into friday. that 24 hour period when it goes right along the east coast of florida. this is a little further off the coast it won't be that bad. if it shifts just a little bit even closer, even if it takes this path or shifts towards the coast that would be like a landfall hurricane for 24 hours right along the east coast of florida. that's the new up date from the hurricane center. the better part of the forecast up here along the coast they ben

these are the hurricane warnings from daytona beach to north of miami. here's a look at the latest track that just came in. see the intensification, up to a category 4 hurricane. this may make landfall to the north of west palm beach and getting up to the space coast and tituil facilities. and then along the georgia and south carolina coast and then it gets wacky. it stops and starts to turn around and that's something to talk about as we move forward into the future. the winds will be gusting over 90 miles per hour. and over 100 miles per hour for a time in bahamas and you can see the hundred-mile-per-hour gusts moving up to florida. the strongest storm since wilma in 2005. minutes. >> hurricane matthew threatening the entire atlantic coast as eric just showed us. and it could lead to historic evacuations there. >>> florida residents are taking the storm seriously, and they should. matthew has been blamed for 11 deaths in the caribbean. in haiti, winds of up to 125 miles per hour pounded the island nation, leaving behind a trail of death and destruction.

hurricane watches are even in place on the eastern seaboard, stretching north of miami, up to about stgustine, around jacksonville. i expect the warn, to cascade to the north as we go ahead through the next 24 to 48 hours. jacksonville, to savannah, up and down the eastern coastline of the u.s., very severe threat of a major hurricane, possibly impacting here. so a lot of time to still watch this, but for now, all eyes are down here, across the caribbean. because this is going to be a continued threat for you. now, what's pulling the storm north is the stationary boundary, bringing scattered showers in parts of the florida peninsula. but eventually the high pressure will set in north of that and keep it moving towards the west until this next low comes through and kicks it off towards the east. this storm itself is actually pretty potent, bringing widespread snowfall across the rockies and central canada. winter weather advisories in place because of this potent, late autumn storm, almost winter-like, as it continues to move through. winnipeg, high of only 12. chicago at 26 and staying

essentially just north of miami just to the north and hurricane watches up near the space coast of florida. likely you will see those changed over to hurricane warning either later today or tonight. there's very warm water. you talk about water temperature into the mid 80s across the bahamas and upper level atmosphere pretty conducive for this to strengthen a little bit more as well. wouldn't be surprised to see that. and that's what the national hurricane center is saying. this goes from three to four. somewhere over the bahamas dangerously close to the east then you notice the hook off to the northeast and to the east. this part of the forecast cone substantially further south than what we show you yesterday afternoon in and the reason for that is lot of model now say you know what instead of hitting the tropic coming up the east coast we think it will be miss that connection and stay south. the european and the europe model here that all stays to the south in fact bending back of other model that are suggesting that too. basically saying again you miss the connection off to the north. h

hurricane warnings have been issued north of miami. four fort lauderdale. those will likely be extended up into the areas of georgia and south carolina later on today. tropical storm warnings for miami. let me give you the latest number and statistics. it's north of cuba. the storm will go over the warmer waters during the day today. you can see the loop of it there. now safely off the coast. we'll have to wait and see how much it with can regenerate. it's now a category 3 storm. that track takes it through the bahamas. then we're going to move it up right along florida's east coast for 24 to 30 hours starting thursday night into friday evening. that's when the most damage and destruction is possible. now that path is paralleling the coast. if it's 20 miles to the east, it may not be that bad. if we shift it towards the coast, it could be devastating. very tough forecast there. as i mentioned, things have improved a little bit. we're thinking off shore tract with less of an impact in north carolina but south carolina and georgia, it will be a close call. th

it's a long way from miami and it's going to take a while to get up there and there's nassau, the storm looks like it's going to go just to the left and just north of miami, all the way up the coast. normally if broward county is under a hurricane warning, people evacuate to orlando. but there's a hurricane warning for orlando. and the space coast that rarely gets hit by any hurricane, let alone a strong one. that tret is higher than it even was this morning. the right turn that we were talking about yesterday, that was going to spare us. yeah, that's going to happen. and the track even farther to the south. that means little or no impact here. the showers on saturday and sunday are from a cold front. everything's the same as it was earlier this afternoon. so no changes yet. the track pretty similar, by thursday afternoon, near category 4 and not too far offshore. then friday morning, there we are, there's the space coast, cape canaveral has not been hit by a cat 4 ever recorded. ever in history. and jacksonville doesn't get it generally, savannah doesn't get it, charleston rarely gets it. these are rare places that are going to be getting hit.
