myrtle beach and charleston. i'll show you what happened at cherry grove beach. this is just right next door to north myrtle beach. and as folks looked out and saw this, you can imagine what they were thinking. this is the storm surge. this isn't just rainfall. there is some contribution to that. but pretty much, the bottom level you that see there, these homes are built on stilts. and essentially people keep their cars down there, recreational vehicles or work tools and that sort of thing, but i'm sure they were holding their birth, hoping that this surge was just not going to get any worse. it was quite powerful. on top of that, the rainfall that we saw in coastal areas of north carolina, south carolina, for the most part, right around charleston, i saw reports of between 4 and 6 inches of rainfall. but now we still have flood watches and warnings out, as i mentioned that tide water area, across virginia. and into the delmarva peninsula, the chesapeake region. hampton, and then in portions of virginia and west virginia, we still have some flood watches out. why? because there's still this broad shi

just about everywhere you look at this specific spot is cherry grove, just to the north of north myrtle beach. you went to north myrtle beach and drove a few blocks, there it is. lots of water. a lot of these areas had 4- 8 inches of water and the storm surge came post high tide in the georgetown, south carolina area and split myrtle beach and charleston. you would be in the georgetown area. this video shows how powerful that rain is as it moves on shore. but now we have post tropical ian. what does that mean? it doesn't have a center of circulation and a whole core. in hurricane it gets heat off of the water. but now the areas in west virginia and kentucky and north carolina, the tide water area and del margo peninsula, they expect 3- 6 inches of rainfall. so not out of the clear, but nothing like the grim aspect of ian just a couple of days ago. just around charlotte, that is about the position in the winston- salem area. we had a center of circulation, that would be where it would be. that is transitioning north. i think the worst aspects of this is over. but going into saturday, it is goi

north of charleston on the georgetown area. and we've got helicopters and flood rescue boats out there. we've already done one rescue, for people of fishing boat as ian was coming ashore yesterday off myrtle beacharolina. and so, those operations are active and continuing. >> admiral, it's remarkable. you look at what those people have been through and then have to be hoisted up into a helicopter. that was probably welcome relief, even if they are afraid of heights or anything like that. as you look at we have more than 1 million people, they are still without power in florida. there's spotty cell phone service, not to mention the extreme flooding. how hard is it to find people in need? >> well, we've got a very coordinated team that is run by, at the federal level, by the federal -- management agency and it's fully in support of the state of florida. they have a broad array of resources that they use. and so, it's a coordinated effort to determine, where do people need help? the best way to get help is to call 911 if you are on a boat. if you are on a boat, called vhs channel 16, fall for help there. social media is not the best way to get help and so, when you get asked for help, it's triage
