to eight in the purple here so that includes new york city, down into philadelphia, just to the north of d.c. then we kind of feather it out to three to five in the darker blue and one to three out towards the pittsburgh area. we have an active pattern, because the jet stream is dipping down and bringing these storms out of the gulf so we will see another one for tuesday and wednesday. all indications are this storm system will be spatially larger and more impactful than what we're seeing today across the midatlantic. so by tomorrow night, right back in the snow, new york all the way to boston. then as we head into wednesday, the storm system becomes more of a new england event but boston, probably the battleground for the rain/snow line. new york should change over probably to some rain, down into jersey, d.c. certainly changing over to rain but snowfall amounts in excess of over six inches. but wait, there's more. this is tuesday-wednesday. the computer models telling us there will be another storm as we head into late weekend, early next week. >> well, we will keep our fingers crossed. sh

of d.c. some areas 1 to 2 feet of snow. the bad news is we're not done yet. we're still seeing more snow here, 3 to 5 more inches across virginia and north carolina. that also has to push through d.c. and new york we're not quite done with it. new england, we are just getting started, although it's warmer in towards the boston area, out towards the cape and the islands. but raleigh still seeing snow at a fair clip. heading into central virginia, d.c., baltimore, philly will all see more snow later tonight. western and central p.a. seeing plenty of snow. new york city we had snow earlier and it changed over to rain, especially towards eastern long island. there we are with the cape and the islands all rain right now. boston still seeing snow. we could see sizeable snow just to the west of boston. the forecast still has a rain/snow mix, the i-95 corridor. later tonight and tomorrow morning we'll see it all change to snow as the colder air comes on through, but maine will still see snow well into your valentine's day evening across the area. and once this storm is through, guess what, we have another quick-hitting system coming on through here to give

areas north of new york city had snowfall rates of three to four inches per hour, blizzard-like conditions there. and look at these snowfall totals, 15 inches in virginia. we had 13 in philly. 11 in d.c. and 9.5 inches in new york city. some of these numbers will increase as we go through the day. still seeing some snow north of new york. it is starting to change over to rain. same thing for you in boston. d.c., you are quiet now. could see more snow develop as we go through the afternoon hours. but mainly rain now pulling into new york city and boston. this is going to create a very slushy mess. temperatures will dip below freezing as we go through the overnight hours tonight. and so that is going to mean trouble for the morning commute tomorrow. but these are additional snowfall totals. and away from the coast we could see about a foot of snow -- additional snowfall, as we go through the late evening hours right along the coast. of course the totals aren't quite as much along the i-95 corridor. we could see two to four inches possibly throughout the afternoon. but it's not only the snow, it's also the wind. and this is also adding more stress to those trees and power lines. and thi
