we're under the influence of the north pacific high. what's happening in these climate simulations is those subtropical highs, more or less, are strengthening, on the other hand if you live in seattle you might be more encouraged because it looks like there's a tendency for latitudes to get wetter and that wet goes further north. next one. well, here we have in this case just one scenario and he's imposed the warming on a hydraulic model and this is the remain of the watershed, this is the sierra nevada and this is the infraction of april first and period surrounding 2060 and that around 2090, and you can see we're eroding the lower elevations of snow and by the time we reach 2090 in this case warmed by 2 degrees celsius, we lose 50 percent of the california snow pact. it's not in the snow. next one. that changes the hydro graph as you heard this morning. so this is october through september the aggravateded sierra run off. more in the winter period, and less in the spring and summer by a bit. this is a recent flood. not a big one. but

his work is understanding climate variability and changes particularly as they apply to the pacific ocean and north america. his specific work concerns impacts of climate changes on water resources and other sectors in west europe north america and he also worked on large scale exchange of heat and water between the ocean and the atmosphere. dan is also a director of the california climate change center a center that works to improve and forecast for decision makers in the california region and i'm sure it's information we can take throughout the united states. dan recieved a bachelor of science in meterologist and oceanographer and received in 1971 from university that makes us about the same age dan, but i'm just a broken down lawyer and economists. he received a, ph.d., in ee in san diego. his speech today will focus on climate change and it's challenge to our water supply. please welcome doctor dan cohan. >> thank you susan, well, it's a privilege to be here. i'm really impressed with the gathering that you've all assembled here in and the quality of the discussion. so i know that i don't want

we have rain up on the north coast as the warm front is already stretching across the pacific. you can see the system it it gets its act together for tomorrow. it's going to continue filling in the clouds over the bay area and during the day tomorrow, that rain is going to turn heavy. winds will pick up. the heaviest rain will come in the second half of the day. another interesting thing about the system is the cold air to follow adding into wednesday. that should shut down the rain. what's left of the showers could drop snow as low as 3,000 feet. on the timing of our future cast, as we head towards the evening, by 11:00, the santa cruz mountains getting a good soaking. again, the other part, the rain totals. at least two to three inches in those higher elevations. and out towards the sierra, the rain means more snow. probably two to four feet. tuesday into wednesday. winter storm warnings already up. in terms of the totals, up and down from lake tahoe, mammoth mountain has been getting pounded by snow. at least four feet of snow by thursday morning, so a big punch for wind and
