this phase of the fremont to san jose project is a 2.3 billion dollar effort, getting to north san jose. already there's talk about getting bart to downtown san jose, milpitas going to get a station. construction begins today on this groundbreaking ceremony on a 10 mile portion of this project linking a future warm springs bart station in south fremont to this. the transit administration is making a 900 million dollar grant to get bart to san jose. >> those that can step to the plate and put skin the game and turns up local dollars to help leverage the federal investment and become true partners, goes a long, long way. >> reporter: that's the way of complimenting the voters in santa clara county in her opinion residents said yes twice to this project in 2000 to raise 1.2 billion dollars with an increase in sales tax. and again in 2008, when the economy was really sliding they approved more money to fund maintenance. lots of jobs going to be created. also lots of inconvenience for drivers certainly on mission boulevard on dixon landing road and other locations in the south bay those stre

we have one just over marin county coastline and another one north of san jose. we have a pretty heavy batch of moisture come through morgan hill and gilroy. spotty activity for today. we stop the clock at 2:00 p.m., still getting spotty action in the north bay. starting to see a little bit more of a steady rain into tonight. another wave of heavy rain comes through just in the heart of tomorrow morning's commute and get a little bit of a break between noon and 3:00 p.m., showers break apart and turn much lighter. take a look at what comes through, just again during your morning commute friday, heavy rain over the greater bay area. and san jose, we're talking about the potential for maybe an inch and a half, two inches of rain. your future cast shows that and it will get cold as well with the cold blast behind it. how much are we expecting? >> upwards of an additional inch and a half in places like napa. here in san jose, we're looking towards an inch and three quarters at the very least. finally getting a break from that rain but we will see enough shower activit

from berryessa down -- for the berryessa extension project, i should say, from milpitas down to north san jose is expected to open a year later and serve an average of 23,000 daily commuters, quite a big number, and that's just the first year alone and create an estimated 18,000 direct and indirect jobs. of course many of them in construction. federal to state and local leaders are getting ready to celebrate what is being touted as a transportation and economic connection decades in the making at today's ground-breaking. we're expecting former governor gray davis, senator dianne feinstein, local mayors, including san jose mayor chuck reed. the ground-breaking is set for 2:00 this afternoon on mayberry road just south of the berryessa site. if you're headed that way, be sure to take out your rain gear. >>> new this morning, police are trying to track down whoever shot two men overnight on the streets of oakland. officers say the two men drove themselves to the hospital after being shot on west street near 29th street overnight. neither was able to provide a description of a possible suspect. of

we're going to look at the south bay first of all to the north of san jose, things are moving nicely he peninsula. we have slowing here, capital expressway, north of 680, and 87 coming into downtown, might see a little more traffic, some schools are back from spring break, others are getting their spring break. the last from what i understand are getting spring break. give them a shout out. we did a fundraiser for them earlier this year. southbound 680, little slow out of pleasanton and into sunol, but the earlier sig alert into the dublin interchange caused more backup which is now just finally getting back to its normal flow. a little slowing past livermore and portola, a 29-minute drive out of the altamont pass and heading toward the dublin interchange. a smooth drive the valley y. not a lot of drama here, a smooth drive, northbound past the coliseum also looking nice. that's the east bay and a pe nans la drive as we talked about, 101 into and out of the city and 280, as well. that's usually clear and it is this morning, as well. get a live look outside and show you the golden gate
